Coach Nowlin Posted January 27, 2025 Posted January 27, 2025 Listening to the podcast with Rick Smith on it I was wrong. Ben Johnson fired Trace Armstrong in September. Quote

I'm assuming you of all people would know the answer to this. I don't feel like going on a google hunt right now. Do the Pacers and Colts receive revenue sharing from other events at Gainbridge and Lucas Oil? I believe I was once read the Pacers weren't even paying Rent at one point. Quote

I'm only 4 minutes in but already heard something similiar to what Johnson said. Smith says that the Bears went deep and vetted Johnson down to his North Carolina and BC days. I'm sure Poles has lots of connections at BC. Anyways, I believe Poles and Johnson were both asked in the presser if they were surprised at how quickly Johnson became HC after the 1st interview. I know Johnson said that he just needed to sit down at this desk and evalaute the data that had been given to him to make a decision based on what his gut was already telling him. He probably had soo many people vetting the Bears that he just needed to read a brief report to give him the answers he needed. Because he even mentioned how helpful the hiring committe was and how he was happy to hear George/Kevin had aligment with it just being Poles and Johnson running the show. No micromanaging by Warren. I believe I was once read the Pacers weren't even paying Rent at one point. Good question. The latest description of a Colts lease agreement I could quickly find was from 2005: https://www.wthr.com/article/news/colts-stadium-deal-who-gets-what/531-7af19a1b-d9bd-4160-b152-325649ab4da3 Quote Under the terms of the lease, the Colts get the new stadium for all home football games and up to seven other days. They get 3,000 parking spaces; all naming and sponsorship rights; all game day revenue, including concessions and half of all money generated at non-Colts events held at the stadium. I would suspect any newer lease agreements to have similar wording. And I really don't care about the NBA, and this is the best I could quickly find regarding the Pacers latest deal with the Indianapolis CIB: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/26507246/pacers-reach-deal-keep-team-indianapolis 1 Quote

Very good and informative. Great questions. I liked that Smith explained why the early interviews were conducted via Zoom as the NFL attemps to slow down the process to give coaches still alive in the playoffs a "fair" chance. His comments regarding the Raiders were good too. He said Vegas never had a chance even though Brady had a really good pitch, but he didn't shut down the rumors because he thought it was good for Ben in case they couldn't get a deal done with Chicgao. Coach Nowlin Posted January 29, 2025 Posted January 29, 2025 Here is the difference of what is REAL and what is MADE UP If you listened to the local yocals in Chicago media ........the ones who made the Bears seem like laughing stocks for interviwing 17 HC....... Then you listen to the AGENT who says, the Bears were the smartest organziation he has seen because there is now other way in the NFL to have this much access to people from other organizations for 3 hours a pop, LEGALLY. He thought it was genious of POLES, but you listened to too many folks for my likely, POLES is terrible, doesn't know what he is doing, this and that. So rediculous Quote

Definately an interesting argument. I was listening tomore of it today and he mentioned a lot of the NFL franchises don't really talk to each other. They're mostly private and keep everything in house. Interviewing a lot of candidates is a greaty way to collect data from the otherside. And obviously vet people. I absolutely love that he says Kevin has been instrumental in providing George with guidance and teaching him how an NFL team should look. Smith says he knows what the inside looks like for all 32 teams and he thinks Chicago has finally figured it out. Winning the public perception in the offseason doesn't win games, but it sure is nice to see some very positive news coming out of Halas Hall lately. 1 Quote
Coach Nowlin Posted January 29, 2025 Posted January 29, 2025 and there was many in chicago market who say Waren is the boogie man too SMH NFL is VERY protective of their in house world, no doubt about it. Indianapolis Colts have put on HS coaching clinic limited to like 100 ish coaches, been able to go twice, not sure they still do it or not, but when I went last time, it was at their facility, we got to go to breakout rooms, so I was in RB room, with Coach Tom Rathman, they had scheme stuff up on the wall, and he freaked and quickly went up and erased it right away..... just in case someone had a phone out.....NO PHONE CAMERA SIGNS eveyrwhere We wanted to see the weight room, off limits, they did not allow anyone to even see what they had in their weightroom HOWEVER: 1st clinic I had been to that was an OPEN BAR and had Shrimp cocktail on the food table to be had, to go with Burgers, Wings, etc. Real nice touch from Colts.
