First of all- can we get a rundown of semi-state games coming up and the location/surface it will be played on?? (Turf or grass) Secondly- with the forecasted weather this week- we’ve got some potential for some “mud/slop”…I’ve beat this drum for some time now- but, at the semi-state level- should the IHSAA step in and make sure these games aren’t played on less than adequate fields?? Lastly- we all know the examples- but maybe a few can share where field conditions most certainly “leveled” the playing field and allowed a lesser talented team to pull an upset?? The first that comes to my mind is undefeated Eville Central losing to Jasper in just a complete slop. Don’t remember the year. Quote
Bobref Posted November 16, 2025 Posted November 16, 2025 Andrean is hosting Adams Central in the northern 2A semistate. I was on Andrean’s field Friday night. It’s natural grass. That field is notorious for being in poor condition late in the season, but I was pleasantly surprised at the shape it was in Friday. But we have a couple of days of rain predicted, so all bets are off. Quote
Yuccaguy Posted November 16, 2025 Posted November 16, 2025 (edited) As an aside. A few years ago it rained the entire week prior to the Week 9 SAC Championship game with Bishop Luers and Snider. Luers was hosting and the field was absolutely a disaster. We thought that with BLHS being a mainly passing team, they would move to an open local turf site. NOPE. Snider a running team was absolutely in their element, and won comfortably. I would not be shocked seeing a team taken completely out of their focus by conditions this Friday. And yes there was a time when NOBODY had turf. You knew the situation, and prepared accordingly. . Now, it (grass) is a major factor that needs to be of concern and changes the entire approach to an offensive scheme. Edited November 16, 2025 by Yuccaguy Quote

Sportsguy Posted November 16, 2025 Posted November 16, 2025 Not really an upset, but Class 2A No. 1 and undefeated Lewis Cass traveled to No. 2 and undefeated Heritage for a titanic sectional semifinal contest in 2006, and it was an absolute quagmire. The Patriots took the opening possession in for a touchdown, missed the extra point, and neither team could muster anything after that. Worst conditions I've ever covered. Quote
