“The St. Xaiver vs Elder footbal game in Region 4 Friday evening was scheduled to play at Mason High School which has a capacity of 7k. Tickets went on sale yesterday at noon while students were at school, and most parents work. At 12:15PM all tickets were sold. Both schools asked to move to a larger venue as 80% of the student bodies were unable to get tickets, and OHSAA refused.

Hamilton County even offered Paycor Stadium at reduced rates to play the game there, and OHSAA still refuses. There are also quite a few parents of players and band members who also didn't get tickets to watch their kids perform.”

Just did a quick follow up.  Apparently, enough folks complained, and the game was moved to Paycor.

Mods feel free to delete.

Enough folks needed to complain? How bout just common sense?

Let's not get me started on the OH$AA or IH$AA on why they do certain things.

It feels like a ego thing with them. It has to be their idea even though there are better ones out there.

I wonder out loud how this would play here......

Would be more difficult for a lot of reasons.

When the game sold out, the city government (which owns the stadium) got involved very quickly and worked on making the stadium available. Paycor, basically, only hosts football games during the fall and concerts during the summer. The Bengals' practice facility is on-site, so they're using the stadium daily during the season (if just the dressing rooms).

In Indiana, all games are at a host site, and few schools are going to willingly give up a home game in the tourney (also, most have experience with basketball sectional tourneys that might sell out, so they often share the ticket link with parents before they go on sale to the public). Also, because Lucas Oil Stadium is tied to the Convention Center - which is always busy (which is why the Colts rarely host prime-time games except during Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks) - it's often not available on short notice.

I saw the headline come across my newsfeed.  I'm glad it got moved to Paycor.  But I did see that there were some unintended consequences.  Mason HS, which is not one of the schools playing, but a neutral host, seems to be the big loser.  Close to $10,000 worth of concessions had been purchased in anticipation of a 7,000 - 8,000 person crowd in attendance.  Mason student groups - Band, Student Council, etc. was hoping to bring in several thousand dollars worth of profit to help fund their activities this year.

I'm guessing they can't start selling them at Paycor, so they miss out. A minor thing, but just something I never considered.

Looks like they basically filled the lower bowl of the stadium.  Place holds 65,000.  St. Xavier scored 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter to beat Elder 42-34

And up north, the Mighty, Mighty Eagles of St. Edward punched their 5th consecutive ticket to the final four by dominating previously unbeaten Mentor, 27-7.
