Irishman
A true legend of the game. Always loved watching games when it was Winter in Minnesota. But he had some great teams that it seems do not get as much attention as they deserve. RIP Coach. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/35835975/bud-grant-led-vikings-4-super-bowls-hof-career-dies 1
Irishman
Another legend passes. The case could easily be made that he is on a shortlist of the best, toughest, and most physical players to ever put pads on. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/37685864/all-great-running-back-jim-brown-dies-

My lifelong love affair with football began as a young kid growing up in a western suburb of Cleveland. My interest in the game paralleled his career, and I watched almost every NFL game he ever played. On the field, he was like a force of nature. He was the best football player I ever saw. But, he was also much more than a football player, and it would be short changing his legacy to think of him only on those terms. Incidentally, he was also one of the greatest players in the history of NCAA lacrosse. When I played lacrosse at Notre Dame, I wore #32 in his honor. A very sad day.
Irishman
Another legend passes. I know this will hit hard for the Bears fans here, especially those old enough to have enjoyed watching him play. Thank God for the genius of Steve Sabol and NFL Films for allowing us to see so much of his and other legends’ careers in such detail. RIP Dick https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/38577860/dick-butkus-hall-fame-linebacker-chicago-bears-dies 1

Irishman
George McGinnis passed this morning....I loved those ABA Pacers teams, and George was a great one. So many great memories, and I have no doubt those teams could have competed well against the NBA teams. RIP George This was written before he passed and is a great story. https://www.nba.com/pacers/news/his-best-george-mcginnis-was-best?fbclid=IwAR2HaausRgEWauA-r59Jln2wi9vMBS0ImIklI1Vx3R61KwPtrahqznTecQ4

ragdoll
Pacers were gods to me as a young kid. Neto was at my house one time-he had to duck through doorways. McGinnis and Doc Erving were the stars of stars in the ABA, and the ABA had a lot of top players.

Muda69
O.J. Simpson dead at 76, family announces: https://sports.yahoo.com/oj-simpson-dead-at-76-family-announces-144012008.html Quote O.J. Simpson, whose immense fame on the football field was eclipsed by his infamy off it, died Wednesday according to his family. He was 76. Simpson had been battling cancer and had been in hospice. Simpson's attorney also confirmed his death to TMZ. "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer," read a statement posted by Simpson's family on X. "He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren." “O.J. Simpson was the first player to reach a rushing mark many thought could not be attained in a 14-game season when he topped 2,000 yards,” Pro Football Hall of Fame president Jim Porter said in a statement. “His on-field contributions will be preserved in the Hall’s archives in Canton, Ohio.” No matter what Simpson did as a football player, he will always be more remembered for perhaps the most famous murder trial in American history, one that had people glued to their televisions on a daily basis and split the country along racial lines. The moment he was found not guilty of the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman was one of the most-watched in television history, as was Simpson’s slow-speed Ford Bronco chase through Southern California freeways after he was charged with the murders and failed to turn himself in. Long before the trial that fascinated a large majority of Americans, Simpson’s fame was undeniable. He was one of the most famous football players ever, and became a celebrity off the field. A sad day for football fans.

He'll be remembered first and foremost as a psychopath killer, football player second.
