East beat New Albany 49-28 and only led 21-14 at the half. Pitiful performance by East when New Albany’s biggest offensive output prior to tonight was 14 points. Floyd Central and BNL will steamroll us.

Floyd Central needs to turn up the intensity sometimes. They won 34-12 tonight but that game felt like it should've been about a 48-0 game. I'm still nervous about them going to East. And BNLs passing game is ridiculously good. So glad that game is down here.

Worst thing about the Madison at Jennings County game tonight was the number of penalties. As I was leaving, I heard the game stats on the radio. Jennings County had 14 penalties for 130 yards. Madison had 19 penalties for 129 yards. The amount of flags was atrocious.

What's the schedule this week? Hopefully some more competitive games. FC at East should be a competitive pick em type of game.

The schedule will be up every Tuesday evening so the slacker AP poll can be included for rankings accuracy purposes.

Frozen Tundra has been trying to hoodwink us about East all season. Bro, you said their OL is small. Their C is 350 lbs. The LG is 325. Lol. They have the most experienced QB in the conference. They have a freaking uber athletic 6"5 WR and another 6"2 burner on the other side. That's a freaking loaded offense. They're in this race.

I will admit I underestimated the o-line and d-lines. When I saw them in person for the first time this season against Jennings County, I was like, “Well I was wrong. These boys are bigger than they looked in photos/videos and definitely bigger than what we’ve had in the past.”

However, bigger doesn’t mean better. Experience also doesn’t mean better. And Lawson is a good WR but he also needs the ball more. However, he’s also skinny.

Having said all this, don’t let your eyes deceive you. This isn’t a good team. They may look good against Jennings County and they may put up points against Seymour and New Albany but, against a quality opponent, they’re overmatched. Hate saying it since I love my school but I have to be honest. They stink. Hopefully they can prove me wrong but I have seen them play twice (once in person) and I have listened on the radio and seen the stats/scores of their games. They’re a 3rd or 4th place team in the HHC. Right now, I think Jeff beats them.

Idk man? We haven't particularly played well up there so I'm expecting a competitive game.

If you guys don’t win by 21+ then it’s not a result of us being good. It’s a result of Floyd Central playing down to their competition.

Well we'll see. I thought we'd win last year and didn't. Hopefully they play well.

To give you some perspective, I have a friend on the varsity coaching staff of one of the teams East plays annually. When he watched tape of East, his exact words were “East looks worse than ever in my opinion.”

Sadly so does much of the conference.

I think it’s true for New Albany at least. It’s not the worst East team ever. 1997 and 1998 were the darkest of days.

Largely a 5A conference, 5A football in this state is the worst class in my opinion. 6A and 1A should be 32 schools and divy the rest of them up.

I would be for it. Unfortunately, the top half of 4A being moved up to 5A probably wouldn’t like it because of the “size disparity”.

I wish the HHC was strong. I'm sure people would think I want Floyd Central to be the only good team in the conference. No way. I have been bored out of my mind the past 3 games. I won't make it to East but hopefully the BNL/FC game next week can be a barn burner. I just wanna see a fun game.

If we can bring in Bloomington South and Columbus North it would definitely be stronger.

I think both of those schools should stay independent in football, especially with their locations.

I would love that. I wish we could get enough conference games that we wouldn't need to schedule Non-Con. I have heard that's a real pain in the ***.

Week 6 Schedule

5A #10 Floyd Central (4-1, 2-0 HHC) at Columbus East (3-2, 3-0 HHC)

Jennings County (2-3, 0-1 HHC) at BNL (4-1, 3-0 HHC)

Bloomington North (2-3) at Jeffersonville (2-3)

2A #2 Brownstown Central (5-0) at Seymour (0-5)

New Albany (0-5) at Silver Creek (1-4)

Let’s see if we have enough time to get picks from everyone. I know it’s kind of tight.

Week 6 Picks

5A #10 Floyd Central (4-1, 2-0 HHC) at Columbus East (3-2, 3-0 HHC): This is the 50th meeting between these two teams. As I’ve stated for the last three weeks, Columbus East’s defense stinks and that’s backed up by the fact they gave up 28 points last week against a New Albany team whose previous high was 14 in week 1 against a 1A team. In the three weeks after that, the Bulldogs scored a whopping total of 3 points. Therefore, if the Highlanders don’t feast on East then they don’t deserve an HHC title. Floyd Central wins by at least 21. The Olympians lead the all-time series 32-17. The Highlanders will attempt to win their second straight at Stafford Field since winning four straight from 1996-2003.

Jennings County (2-3, 0-1 HHC) at BNL (4-1, 3-0 HHC): The Panthers’ biggest loss of the season was 44-0 at Beech Grove in week 2. I think we’ll see a similar score this week as their secondary is no match for the BNL aerial attack. The Stars make quick work of JC by having a running clock and winning big. BNL leads the series 45-7 and has won 8 straight. They have also beaten the Panthers 5 straight at home with the last loss in 2015.

Bloomington North (2-3) at Jeffersonville (2-3): These two meet for only the third time ever as the Cougars won each leg of a home-and-home in 2009 and 2010 by 28 points. Both teams have played BNL which resulted in a 9 point Bloomington North win and a 21 point Red Devil loss. That 30 point swing is enough to convince me the Cougars stay unbeaten against Jeff. Bloomington North wins.

2A #2 Brownstown Central (5-0) at Seymour (0-5): This is the 25th edition of the Jackson Bowl and, for a second straight year, the Braves come into the game as the #2 team in 2A. Brownstown scored their first shutout victory in the rivalry last year and I believe they are very capable of doing the same this year. The Owls’ defense has really struggled this year as they’ve given up 36.6 points per game. Meanwhile, Brownstown’s offense leads the state with 61.6 points per game. Unless Seymour’s offense can somehow keep pace (they average a meager 15 points per game), we’re looking at a running clock this year. The Braves win big. Seymour leads the series 14-10.

New Albany (0-5) at Silver Creek (1-4): Surprisingly, this is the first ever meeting between the Bulldogs and Dragons. Both teams have looked pretty bad through five weeks and Silver Creek’s one win doesn’t hold much weight considering how bad Eastern (Pekin) is. New Albany has played the tougher schedule though as Silver Creek is their first opponent with a losing record. It could be a close one but I’m taking New Albany.
