2023 Purdue Boilermakers/2024 Purdue/ 2025 Purdue/2026 Purdue

2 weeks to prepare and that’s how you play in the 1st half? Feels like Walter’s is in over his head. This is why I don’t like the idea of Purdue going after a hot OC/DC who is unproven as a HC. Prefer a veteran who has proven he can scheme to success with inferior talent.

Instead of starting a new thread, just update the title and go with this:

Gonna be a HUGE weekend on Campus:   (Basketball has 2 or 3 official visits as well)

• As we wrote earlier this week, Purdue will play host to 55 recruits from the 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 classes on Saturday for the Notre Dame game. The names to know were included in our story from Tuesday.

I bet the 55 recruits were impressed with the Boilermakers. In all honesty they all should be confident they can play at Purdue.

Haha. Pac 12 must be pretty weak this year for their 2nd place team to only be a 5.5 point favorite at home over a Big Ten cellar dwellar.

Why did Walters bring Harrell back as OC? Walters needs to be fired after the season assuming there is no turnaround happening this year. He's reaching Hazell levels of incompetence. Bad investement.

His buyout at the conclusion of the regular season is pocket change compared to some of these other contracts if I read correctly ($9 million paid out in installments over the next 3 years and offset by an potential future earnings). Parting ways at the end of the season isn’t a financial constraint which seems to be one of the main reasons incompetent coaches are held onto too long. But will Purdue do it?

I gather that Purdue has always taken a more conservative approach when it comes to turning and burning coaches. Hazell for example wasn’t fired until midway through his 4th season. But that was a different era. In this NIL/portal era, not sure Purdue can afford to hang onto a bad investment too long.

I've read his buyout is a little over $12M, which isn't much of a financial contstraint. I agree 100% with your last sentence. Personally, I can't picture Purdue's AD being willing to publically admit he made a bad hire and needs to cut ties before it sets the program further back. Maybe after year 3 I could see it, but after year 2 seems too agressive for a program like Purdue. I would have more respect for the AD in this situation to pull the plug after year 2.

Do you even let Boninski make the next hire? He’s approaching 70 and would guess retirement is around the corner. I would guess the AD position is that more attractive knowing you’d get to hire the next football coach.

Bobinski is under contract through 2028. Purdue would definately let him make that hire.

Its been UGLY......

Firing Harrell is a good start when you're trying to save your hind quarters

Bobinski is the LEAST of Purdue Football concerns.

Jason Simmons is next man up as OC. I know you have some connections in West Lafayette. Are you referring to something specific regarding Bobinski being the least of their concerns?

Is he? He hired Walters and then signed off on all the staffing hires, none of which included a seasoned veteran to help navigate a 36 year old rookie head coach.

Athletic Directors are not sole decision makers in these type of hires, they SHOULD be the LEAD voice, yes, but in the current landscape of Professional Football played on college campuses, you have Board of Directors, you have DONORS, who also are involved in these things. but again led by the Athletic Department.

Being an AD is like an NFL GM, you are not going to bat 1000 in the draft or with staff hires, not realistic.   FOR ME, Bobinski gets a pass on this, especially if he ends up getting rid of Walters after year 2.  They went outside the box and decided to try to navigate these shark invested waters with a very young 1st time HC and equally young staff, there are things that have transpired that would indicate that this young staff was not ready for these moments both on and off the field.

Now, if Bobinski fails a 2nd time landing a coach/staff at Purdue then yes, the target should shift to the athletic department.

Making 1 bad Football hire shouldn't cost a job of the Athletic Director, and I've said before, Walters message and attitude is fine with me, the lack of discipline is very concerning, and the BIGGEST question is this:   Is Purdue Football serious about competing like the other professional college football teams with their NIL or is it just status quo, if its status quo, then you're going to get left in the dust.

Brick Haley DL coach supposed to be that guy

Also.....   Remember Matt Mattox up and left 3 weeks after he was hired......hmmmmmmmm. "person reasons"

that's how the Walters era began

it is interesting....one year of college experience prior as a RB coach at Miami OH.  He's definitely in the deep end now.

Is the coaching industry the one profession you can fail upwards? Guy is two years removed from going 31-28 at Ben Davis of all places and is now calling plays for a B10 program.

We have been fortunate to have had a few players from Rensselaer get into some college coaching, one young man found himself tied in with Charlie Strong, Lville and Texas

He came back to town we were talking one day, he swore up and down from his days as an Wabash All American to being in L'ville and Texas, that our staff was just as knowledgable coaching then anyone he has seen at his stops, the difference was who you know, and the fact that these guys get to work on their craft 80-100 hours a week and all that.

He said Coach Strong had a good friend he Brought with him everywhere as a one the guys in the S&C program, he would just hang in the weight room all day and watch Netflix getting 6 figures.......

Jason Simmons absolutely KNOWS offensive ball.   that is not something that can be disputed in my opinion, as I have seen him in action, in chalk talks, etc.  He played College ball at Miami OH, been around great HS programs and coaches and now working in this capacity.   Rooting for my pal for selfish reasons (want Purdue not be the Purdue from last 5 weeks and all of last year) and for his own career

He is unbelievable man.

Just reached out to us.  Organizing funds for his good friends devastated in NC .....

He started a foundation this summer for his recently deceased mother, hoping to give back to other single mothers who sacrificed so much to provide for their children like Sophie did for him.   Rode is bike from her gravesite in Rensselaer to Ocean in South  Florida to put her ashes at her favorite beach/ocean.  Proud to be invited to the event and to call him a dear friend

Awe, I met his mom once when I went to a Rensselaer basketball game with John Igoe. (Johnny's senior year).

Got a lot of love for the Igoes, Addrian and the Malones! (Talk to Andrew/allisons mom about twice a month!)
