I have found Tom O'Briens obituary: Thomas O'Brien Obituary - Indianapolis, IN
-
I was just notified Thursday night that long time Cathedral basketball coach and teacher Tom O'Brien has passed away at the age of 95. OB was a dear friend of everyone he met! He was a real asset to Cathedral High School through ou his life! One humorous story about OB, told to me by Irish coach Leo Mahoney. Both Leo and OB played football at Butler for Coach Tony Hinkle. During their early years they rode the bench for most of the season, but in a runaway game Coach Hinkle pointed at them both to enter the game. It was difficult for them as their helmets were full of popcorn! I will post an obituary later. RIP,OB!

Hoosier Hills Conference

I was taken aback by Lafayette Jeff and Silas Chatard a bit. Although I understand Catholic football and the better than average teams within it in our fair state, but wasn’t expected such a one-sided affair. -

Is Lawrence Central as good as some people have been saying? I know they smashed Jeffersonville but that’s not really a good barometer for knowing if LC is legit or not. -

Cathedral at Ben Davis
PHJIrish replied to PHJIrish's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I'm doing well! I wish the Giants the best going forward! It was a good night for both teams really. Both are quite young and there's going to be some penalties and turnovers early on. BD's young QB is going to be a great one! Cathedral Freshman 19, Ben Davis Freshman 14, final. I hope someone will post the JV score. - Today

Ugly but entertaining game. Penalties galore on both teams that will probably keep both coaches up all week. Ben Davis lead a time consuming, game winning drive after completely unraveling in the 2nd half after being in total command. Cathedral forced some 2nd half turnovers and came all the way back to tie it. QB play once again appears to be a concern for Cathedral. -

I said last year after watching him in the Regional ,that Carroll's Dual threat QB is the real deal. I'm sure he is better this year . I'm thinking Carroll is going to be a handful for anyone this year . -

New Pal's lines and overall team looked to be playing the toughest late into the 4th. There were times when SF's OL looked gassed. SF's speed at the skill positions also seemed to catch New Pal a little off gaurd. A lot of uncharacteristic missed tackles in the 1st half. Couldn't keep SF off the field on 3rd downs. SF's 1st TD drive went 17 plays. Enjoyable crew. Good humor. No homerism. Seemed like they did their research on SF. -
Wabash River Conference Week 1
Gipper replied to Donnie Baker's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Interesting week 1–Center Grove goes down, Lafayette Jeff gets annihilated, Bloomington North & South playing an out of conference game, South Newton playing 8-man ball against Waldron tonight, should be a heck of a season… -

I hope some of you experts didn’t go to Vegas! -
It was more "wishful thinking" than prognostication skills, obviously. Many are hoping the Tigers are moving back towards the pack this season... Looks like "not" 8 -) COngrats on dominating victory

Week 1 Pick ’Em Update: I noticed that one of the Week 1 scores listed on John Harrell’s site was incorrect when I originally calculated the standings. Unfortunately, I had already tallied everyone’s picks based on that score. I’ve gone back, corrected the game result, and updated everyone’s Week 1 totals accordingly. Sorry about the mix-up! The standings below are the corrected Week 1 standings. 👍 9 - PiratePride13, SuhMe 8 - Sparks, Bluejacket1 7 - Salem33, WWFan, Baker64, OldramDL 6 - Boilerfan87, IUFan

I do know my swimming as I swam at South Newton. The William D. Elbert Aquatic Centre is well known for only having 5 competition lanes as opposed to 6 or 8. As a side note, it’s not named after Elbert, I just chose to honor him as he was both my principal and Pappy Gipper’s basketball coach when the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Second side note, daddio played for the Kentland Blue Devils who were quite good, offering as BDP as a forerunner to RDP.

I'm just glad that New Palestine successfully represented our state and beat that team from Illinois. The weight room culture at New Pal is very strong. -
It's always great to have a pro like @crimsonace1 on the call.

Aspen HS is in Colorado nicknamed the Skiers, yet they have a very swimming program. Maybe not Carmel good, but not bad for a landlocked state smack dab in some of the world’s best, yet nauseatingly expensive skiing terrain in the world.

We had the game on WBDG as well. It was a good one. Kind of like a tale of two games. The Giants built that 27-10 lead, the Irish responded and then the Giants drove for the go ahead TD and preserved it by forcing the turnover. Hope is well with you! -

And how about those Manchester Squires as opposed to Cavaliers and the Southmont Mounties for making the dubious choice of honoring the long arm of the law in our neighbors to the north?
