  2. I'll start by saying that Heritage Hills needs some adversity...this is the week for it, Harrell has the Pats losing this game by 4--SEE BOTTOM OF POST. Rankings are IFCA from week 4. I'll post the cool graphic later in the week for our graphically jealous Memorial friends. Heritage Hills 5-0 (3-0 PAC) at Gibson Southern 4-1(2-0 PAC) Heading into week 5 Heritage Hills was ranked 1st in all 3 polls in 4A and Gibson Southern was ranked 2nd in the IFCA and 4th in the USA & AP polls in 3A. History This is the 54th meeting between Heritage Hills and Gibson Southern and the Patriots lead the series 36-17, The Patriots also faced three teams that consolidated into Gibson Southern in the 1972 and 1973 seasons and went 0-2 VS. Fort Branch, 1-1 VS. Haubstadt and 2-0 VS. Owensville. In the first season of Patriot football the Patriots went 9-1 and their only loss was a 15-12 defeat by Fort Branch. The Titans won the first 3 meetings in the series beating Roger Snow’s Patriots in 1974, 75 and 76 and the Patriots didn’t beat them for the first time until 1977 the year Bob Ashworth became the Patriots head coach, that season was hall of famer Bob Claytons only season as Offensive Coordinator at Heritage Hills the following season Ashworth moved onto Evansville Reitz and Clayton took over the Heritage Hills program. The Patriots have won the past 3 meetings, and the Titans have won 13 of the last 22 meetings starting with a win in 2010 that snapped the Patriots streak of 21 straight wins over the Titans. Heritage Hills and Gibson Southern have played 5 overtime games in the series including a 7-0 five overtime affair in 1982. 1974 Gibson Southern 27 HH 6 1975 Gibson Southern 16 HH 0 1976 Gibson Southern 26 HH 0 1977 HH 16 Gibson Southern 0 1978 HH 28 Gibson Southern 8 1979 HH 20 Gibson Southern 0 1980 HH 21 Gibson Southern 15 OT 1981 HH 14 Gibson southern 12 1982 HH 7 Gibson Southern 0 in 5 overtimes 1983 Gibson Southern 22 HH 21 (OT) 1984 HH 7 Gibson Southern 0 1986 Sectional HH 13 Gibson Southern 7 1989 Sectional HH 34 Gibson Southern 13 1993 HH 32 Gibson Southern 7 1994 HH 33 Gibson Southern 19 1995 HH 54 Gibson Southern 14 1996 HH 20 Gibson Southern 3 1997 HH 42 Gibson Southern 6 1998 HH 32 Gibson Southern 12 1999 HH 54 Gibson Southern 0 2000 HH 63 Gibson Southern 0 2001 HH 40 Gibson Southern 23 2001 Sectional HH 28 Gibson Southern 7 2002 Heritage Hills 63 Gibson Southern 6 2003 Heritage Hills 42 Gibson Southern 0 2004 Heritage Hills 48 Gibson Southern 7 2005 Heritage Hills 19 Gibson Southern 7 2006 Heritage Hills 14 Gibson Southern 13 overtime 2007 Heritage Hills 27 Gibson Southern 10 2008 Heritage Hills 49 Gibson Southern 21 2009 Heritage Hills 41 Gibson Southern 0 2010 Gibson Southern 35 Heritage Hills 34 (1OT) 2011 Heritage Hills 27 Gibson Southern 0 2012 Gibson Southern 14 Heritage Hills 10 2013 Gibson Southern 50 Heritage Hills 26 2014 Heritage Hills 38 Gibson Southern 33 2014 sectional H Hills 14 Gibson Southern 13 2015 Gibson Southern 42 Heritage Hills 13 2016 Gibson Southern 38 Heritage Hills 10 2017 Gibson Southern 48 Heritage Hills 7 2018 Heritage Hills 31 Gibson Southern 7 2018 sectional Gibson Southern 24 Heritage Hills 14 2019 Heritage Hills 49 Gibson Southern 14 2019 sectional Heritage Hills 21 Gibson Southern 20 2020 Gibson Southern 38 Heritage Hills 0 2020 Gibson Southern 21 Heritage Hills 10 2021 Gibson Southern 42 Heritage Hills 3 2021 sectional Gibson Southern 42 Heritage Hills 7 2022 Gibson Southern 32 Heritage Hills 14 2023 Gibson Southern 31 Heritage Hills 28 2023 semi state Heritage Hills 23 Gibson Southern 20 2024 Heritage Hills 28 Gibson Southern 0 2024 sectional Heritage Hills 35 Gibson Southern 18 Pre-consolidation 1972 Heritage Hills 27 Haubstadt 6 1972 Fort Branch 15 Heritage Hills 12 1972 Heritage Hills 34 Owensville 6 1973 Haubstadt 7 Heritage Hills 6 1973 Fort Branch 14 Heritage Hills 0 1973 Heritage Hills 12 Owensville 0

  3. Experts…. Been in the stands at Memorial Stadium many times over a lifetime. Never witnessed anything like that before from an Indiana team. Incredible. Mendoza 5 TD’s to 4 different receivers, 21-23 all over 3 quarters. 7 sacks, gave up a total of 2 yards rushing for the game, while rushing for over 300 yds. I’ve never seen a Hoosier team this strong and this fast. Just got to keep it up going into a tough place to play at Iowa next week. Man, it was a joy to see this type of performance.

  4. That was an epic IU beatdown, considering they were only a 4.5 point favorites before the game. Iowa is up next on the road. Should be another IU win. Then they have a big one against Oregon. That's when we find out just how good this Hoosier team really is. Cignetti is one hellavu coach!

  6. Lafayette Jeff doesn't have any quality wins. They play in a weak conference and annually are one of the most overrated teams in the state. Their best win is over Michigan City by 17. Merrillville beat Michigan City by 37. Also, Chatard played their backup QB during the Lafayette Jeff game.

  7. You can see Caleb Williams developing right in front of you. That throw on the flea flicker was insane. But the important thing is Johnson is now trusting him with plays like that. That tells me a lot about what Johnson thinks of him, and I trust his opinion.

  8. Come back to this in a few weeks. They all will be at semistate at the very least. And I think 3 of them come home with a state title What if nither make it out there sectionals 👀

  9. Correct. They're both gonna play their college ball in the SEC.

  11. They have always played Penn State tough, but tend to get hosed playing there. Here's hoping!

  14. I really believe IU is winning at either Penn State or Oregon. Injuries always have a lot to say about how you play, but IU is much better than last year, and damn, they were pretty good last year.

  15. Oh yeah…many of remember when a Bielema coached Wisconsin team dropped 83 on IU at Camp Randall. No mercy. Can’t lie….yesterday knowing that his 9th ranked team got 63 dropped on them (could have been worse) was extra sweet.

  16. Nice Colt drive to open up the 2nd half. They even scored a TD! 27-6 early in the 3rd quarter.

  18. Great atmosphere. Complete domination by IU. I read last week that Mendoza could be the top QB prospect in the draft. He looks the part.

  21. What? Who has 45 D1 players? That’s ridiculous? What Indy school has that many. And how does that refer to Andrean? Or Merrillville? I stand by what I said both of these schools should be on this list. As both of them realistically have a shot to be in a title game. Not saying it will happen but they realistically have a good chance. Andeans only comp in the north will be probably Adams central at semistate which on paper there is more talent on the niners. Merrillville on the other hand? They just demolished who they would see at regionals. Semistate?? Lafayette Jefferson?? Maybe? I don’t know a whole lot about the 5A schools outside of NWI. Concord maybe? But not sure concord can hang with the athletes the pirates have? again not saying they are state champs but they realistically are favorites in the north to get there. And at some point Merrillville has to break there semistate curse? Andrean has a better shot to win state but both can be there. I’d go out on a limb and say 4? 5? NWI teams make state this year. crown point, Merrillville, Hobart, Knox, Andrean, north Judson, are all probably favored to get to semistate at the least

  22. IU is better than last year by a significant amount. That defense is nasty, puts pressure on the QB, and are ball hawks. This easily could be 70-10 as they dropped 2 pick 6’s. Just freaking dominant football. As great as Rourke was, Mendoza is a step above, probable top 5 picks in the NFL draft, 39-43 over the last 2 weeks, 14td’s 0 interceptions so far this year

  24. I agree with everything you’ve said. Not only that, but adding two officials at the Regional level and beyond would give 48 more officials the opportunity to work deeper into the playoffs. Frustration with the tournament advancement process is a significant contributor to the decline in the number of football officials. It could be a part of a retention strategy. The IHSAA has always taken the position that adding officials to work unfamiliar positions with unfamiliar crew mates, and the changes in crew mechanics that would be necessary outweighs any advantage in better coverage.
