  1. Look, Cignetti ain't going ANYWHERE. Let me say that up front. But all I am saying is if IU wants to stay relevant in FB. They really need to think about the 'future'. I honestly believe that Franklin is the type of HC that would continue that move forward. But I also don't think that he'd be willing to be an "assistant HC in waiting" at IU to be Cignetti's replacement. As a fan of Missouri also, I can see what they have accomplished in the SEC (a conference that honestly they NEVER should have joined), in many sports other than FB also. Coach Drinkwitz has accomplished a heck of a lot at Mizzou to make them FB relevant within the SEC. And HE specifically is a 'hot commodity' also. As for "Happy Valley". Their issue is simple... Joe Pa ain't walking through that door. Times have changed, the landscape has also. Just as with IU Basketball, the days of R.M. Knight are gone. Deal with the situation TODAY and stop thinking 'past glory' is an advantage. I give you North Carolina Basketball as an example also.
  2. I am NOT saying Cignetti's going anywhere...but let's be serious people. James Franklin would be a nice replacement for Cignetti when he retires from IU. Matt Rhule probably is heading to PSU. He was the Temple HC when the current PSU AD was also at Temple. so 2 seasons of Football prosperity, and you think IU is somehow a 'blue blood'?
  3. IU should use a back conversation to make sure Franklin replaces Cignetti. Make Franklin the highest paid DC and the coach in waiting.
  4. always!!!!
  5. Trying @PHJIrish.. We missed a BIG call this past week late in our game; It has NO excuse at all for this crew. No impact on the game, but something that I am completely upset about. A late PF cannot be missed in front of 3 officials! Then compounded by upsetting an Assistant Coach with a response that (IMO) was correct as directed to him. There is nothing that I can say (tried) to mitigate the situation following the game. But his particular position with the school was not known to the crew. My response to him (and the HC) was that though "I may have the same initials of the 'perfect' man, I am NOT him!". He took that as an offense. I am NOT perfect, nor is anyone on Earth at this time. We are all subject to making mistakes. All I ask is that when a mistake is made, please judge the impact of that 'mistake' on the entirety of the contest. 59-21 with a running clock, this may not be the time to unleash a tongue lashing about your religious beliefs and thoughts as an Assistant Coach. As an official that is yearly asked about rules changes, I try as best to offer my opinions about needed changes. Strangely enough, we had 2 ROUGHING calls that led direct to 'automatic' 1st downs in that game against the home team. That hadn't happened in quite some time. I am a humble man. I hope that those who know who I am can see that. And I wish, all involved in IHSAA sports know that. Great year so far. Looking for another 6 games following the regular season for the crew.
  6. It was an "appeasement" for the absolutely aggesgreous OPI foul that not only was 15 yards, but a loss of down. I don't see this changing anytime soon. You get the 4 ROUGHING fouls vs. the defense that will allow an automatic 1st down, only.
  7. To quote the student's section that I hear after I assess a penalty against the opponent: Bop, bop, bop bop bop "You can't do that!" Bop, bop, bop bop bop "You can't do that!"
  8. East Saint Louis, ILLINOIS !! Ranked #2 in the Metro STL Area this week with a 3-2 Record. My HS (Lutheran North) ranked #4 basically an IN 3A School playing UP due to the multiplier (1.5).
  9. Terre Haute (any) vs. Highland
  10. Exaggerated a bit. But still a relevant observation. You really need those Varsity players for 4 quarters within conference games playing quality minutes at some point. Marian was able to have that. It helps them as they move forward, no matter their record. JV should NOT be the situation that allows Penn to get reps for those below the Varsity level. Yes, the program is steeped in tradition, great coaching, and players... But they need at the highest level to find and compete against the BEST. I WANT and NEED a Northern school to stop the "donut"! Its been far too many years! (But yawl didn't see me post that)
  11. Unfortunately, the running clock situation in some circumstances works as an impediment to preparation for the 'tournament". The Southmount game this week may be the 1st time all season that the Varsity squad plays ALL 4 quarters. This may be a barometer as to the quality of both the wins, and the ability of Cascade. I wish Cascade all the best this season, but be wary of the ability to 'walk' past the others....There's always someone on the other side that isn't impressed with the plaudits that are being promoted.
  12. I officiated the Penn/Marian game, and honestly I was astounded that this was a "conference game". Being from FW, I look the SAC in particular and I want to say that even MORE paring down of 'conference' games are needed. There is NO need for an undefeated (or 1/2 loss) 6A team to be playing a 3A squad in conference in the middle of the season. i.e.: Carroll/Homestead/Snider/now Northrop in the SAC. It may be something to think about as some conferences have very divergent differences in size and quality from the top to the bottom on a regular basis. Yes, it helps the smaller schools with being prepared for the playoffs. But what does it really do for the larger ones? Give them that 'bye week' of playing Austin Peay or Truman State instead of another SEC school? Ask East Saint Louis (IL) to head up your way... Even with a loss, you see a quality program.
  13. If I have learned anything with the GID. It's that "grown assed" Men FLEXING on the internet about HS FB is the greatest thing that has ever happened. Ya gotta love the before/after commentary that comes with these contests. May it NEVER end! And to the Mom's and Dad's in the stands.... yeah he was holding, but just a 'little bit".
  14. I will say this until the "cow's come home".... North of US24; Every team that wants to be relevant needs to ramp up their schedule. In Penn's situation, why not even look at Michigan/Illinois schools?
  15. Call the school's Athletic Department.
  16. Love ya Rodney. I'd like to respond with my OWN "personal frame this" but there isn't enough room to contain the image... 😀
  17. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1GQwADqQnk/ Can't copy the video other than FB. Sent you a different view via the law office email
  18. I would IMMEDIATELY build a state of the art Stadium in STL and have a 'new' expansion team in place in STL! I would also hire the most informed individuals that could provide a team and a competitive franchise within a few seasons to placate the fandom of the STL Metropolitan area. STL has been screwed twice with ownership that has only been concerned about providing tepid competition, and always looking for another opportunity for $$. It became absolutely obvious when SILENT STAN Kroenke and his band of thugs, lied (with the approval of the NFL) to relocate to LA. I could care less where the balanced franchise for the NFL would be located (San Diego??)... But STL got hosed TWICE!
  19. DONE, and yawl know I would!
  20. Yeah, no one on here is "this old"... Sorry guys. I was 6 then. 4 officials.. ugh
  21. I am positive that @Bobref can confer to those of us who are a bit 'younger' the times when a 3-man crew actually was the 'norm' in IN Varsity FB at all games....including the IHSAA Championships... Think about that?
  22. I will YELL to the hills that IN needs to go to a 7-man crew past the 2nd round of the tournament. I'm absolutely amazed that in some sports it's "published policy" to ADD officials once the playoffs begin, but with FB.... Well, it's 5-man for the ENTIRE tournament. How's about having a Side Judge and Field Judge? Of course this doesn't solve the issue that is being said via the U by @btownqbcoach1. But it is better coverage (IMO) than what we have now as the tournament gets further and further toward the Championships.
  23. I said as much a few months ago, and got obliterated by the "throng"...
  24. East Noble didn't have a "down game". They just ran into a team that had a lot of 'purpose' to show their internal fortitude with a fellow NE8 team that has a new HC that came from EN. There was/is a whole lot of underlying things that came into that contest. "Moral Victory" for DeKalb. Perhaps? (a) "Wake up call" for EN, definitely! In any case, this is great thing for the NE8 to have the teams that recently have been 'middling' actually being a force for those at the top to focus on, rather than a week off. HN over CC? that happened on Friday also.
  25. Dekalb played the arses off. NUFF SAID about that one!
