  1. This is where I take issue with some of your posts. You are accusing Charlestown of cheating in a flippant post, and then you backtrack.
  2. Right off the top of my head I cited statistics relating kids from two parent households which you refuted with your own experience. I obviously can’t quote, prior to the last crash, so you have plausible deniability....
  3. Returning QB who could sling it a little as a frosh, seems to make sense to me.
  4. http://www.ihsaa.org/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=Ksqxsc51QrQ%3d&portalid=0 Specifically: IV. Players must have full eligibility as transfer students to participate. Students with limited eligibility are not permitted to participate.
  5. I saw it in mid-June, it was all still under construction. I would guess it's completed by now. What I saw looked awesome. I believe there is still some renovation planned at their Baseball diamond as well.
  6. Just noticed, Mitchell opens at Edgewood. After getting new red turf last year, Edgewood had another construction project over the summer. New home and visitors locker facilities. I can't recall whether they had already done a bleacher upgrade or if it was in the works. I know they've flipped home and away stands, so the visitors will now have to face the sun in the early season games. As an added bonus they have also added officials dressing in the new building, so we no longer have the long walk across the parking lot. Edgewood has made some massive facility upgrades the last two years, it looks awesome.
  7. My experience has been it's a great opportunity to explain new rules, talk to players to explain things, etc. That being said we had a coach get rather upset with us that we would not allow his "blind" player to wear and tinted visor. The best part was after he took his helmet off, he also had sunglasses on.
  8. I ain’t going to lie, I follow Arizona ANTIFA on FB, it’s obviously a parody account, but it’s funny as hell.
  9. Apparently Future Boy is the only person that uses his phone. posted via iPhone.
  10. He has no point other than being argumentative with me, apparently assuming I have some connection or affection for Seymour football.
  11. They scrimmaged because it was close and easy. They play a regular season game because it’s a huge gate for the home team. They haven’t scrimmaged since they began playing a regular season game.
  12. No idea, the format I received from the school was: Quarter 1: 15 plays or 15 minutes Team A -25 yard line 15 plays or 15 minutes Team B -25 yard line 6 plays –First down and Goal Team A - 5 yard line 6 plays- First down and Goal Team B -5 yard line 7 minute break/ warm up
  13. I'm not naming names, but I know for a fact that a 12 pack and a pint of Makers one night did not make it the 15 minute ride from the liquor store a block down the street from New Pal to Cheeseburger in Paradise in Southport. Again, I'm not naming names, but I have heard there are some crews that are drinking teams with a football habit.
  14. ^^^^^^^^^^^^ This. We have had coaches talk to us at several association meetings. I think having dialogue between coaches and officials away from the field usually yields good results. We get a lot of feedback from coaches that they appreciate our communication. Sometimes we have to agree to disagree but we always try to get them answers to their questions. Fortunately I think the "Bob Knight" approach of working the officials to get a call late in the game, is going the way of the dinosaur.
  15. I have seen emails offering $100-$150 for lower level games. This has been going on in Baseball for a couple of years. I know some conferences set prices for officials so that schools can't out bid each other for officials. We see pay all over the place, some schools are currently paying $100 for a V game and the bottom side I've seen recently is $65. We got a $68.50 check last year as well, I can't help but wonder how the arrived at that number. We drove 2 hours last year for a game in rain and mud, ending with some freezing rain for 65 bucks. They did have towels for us and a decent shower, but the general consensus was "we ain't coming back here". And I will admit, we have not taken games based on pay/dressing facilities/decent showers and a towel. When I was still coaching, I used to take care of officials during tournaments at Seymour, and Seymour hosts a bunch of tournaments. It takes very little effort to take care of them, and they'll remember you and want to come back. As far as pay, I never expected to get rich doing this, but geez 65 bucks for 4 1/2 hours of my time, not including travel, is kind of a slap in the face. Forget the fact that officials have a skill set that is require for you to have the game. Regardless the current situation is not good for the game, which ultimately is why we're all here. I don't know what the answer is, but we need to start thinking outside the box.
