  1. That regional game might be in the Top 10 of craziest IN HS football games.
  2. Maybe should have saved a few of them for 2 weeks later...
  3. Ok! That's enough. It was a critical 8 yd. pass play with 40.7 seconds left in the season to cut the deficit to 28 points. We only had one match-up with the legendary coach. November 8, 1985. Sectional 24 Championship.
  4. Now, now.... It sure is good to have everyone back together again in the GID house!!
  5. It really stinks that the IHSAA Success Factor snatched this rivalry away from us.... The two complete each other.
  6. I'm sure he has beefed up from last year, but I agree to a certain extent. He is not a very mobile QB. I'm sure that with a year under his belt things have slowed down for him. On the flip side, the path to LOS in 3A South is very different now than in previous years. My feeling is that whoever comes out of Sectional 32 has to be the favorite to make it to LOS, but overall I think West Lafayette has to be the favorite to win again. They have some studs returning.
  7. How so? I believe there is a "No Vacancy" sign out now. I would hate 2 divisions in football.
  8. Had two good downfield blocks by the QB on one of those long runs... LOL
  9. Yes. Starting next year the SIAC will have no non-conference games. As much of a challenge as it was (for us Wk. 2), I'll miss not seeing someone different every few years. Ironically, for a while we were playing Jasper and Vincennes Lincoln in non-conference.
  10. Here's the big question... Many felt last year it was addition by subtraction at Central.... Will this year be subtraction by addition? Central was much more disciplined last year than the previous umpteen years. Lots of talk about the new coach also demanding discipline. Time will tell.... It has always been tough to find non-conference opponents for teams down here in SW IND. It's the main reason the SIAC added Jasper and Vincennes starting in 2020.
  11. Yep, unless they're flying.... 8/31 in Evansville at 4pm local time.
  12. Your 3A state game would actually be the Sectional 28 championship game..... LOL #IHSAA
  13. No question about that. And obviously Heritage Hills. Brownstown is such a tough opponent to prepare for when you don't see that stuff at any time during the season. My main point was that the 3A South landscape looks a little different than in recent years. The only 2 teams in the year-end 3A Top 10 from Sagarin who remain in the South are GS and HH. Having Chatard, Brebeuf and Guerin all go to the North is what in golf would be described as a fortuitous bounce... I'm sure they would. It's a shame the match-up won't happen at least for a couple of years. It's grown into a great rivalry, mainly because both schools have pretty vocal and confident fan bases. LOL.
  14. It certainly appears that the combination of 3A realignment and success factor bump of Memorial over the next 2 years puts GS in a nice spot. I'm looking forward to the preview of the possible semi-state match-up with Princeton on 9/20.
  15. Can only speak to what I've seen in our scrimmage. I don't see Castle beating BHSS on the road. I'll take Jasper and the points. That game last year was the 2nd closest margin of victory we had. We have some new faces at key positions. Jasper is tough place to cut your teeth... Massey must be sniffing glue...
  16. Which would tend to prove my point about the double-standard. Is he from Iceland? LOL But a kid saying "I want to play for "school x" or "Coach Y" isn't undue influence, right?
  17. LOL. Not representing Evansville Memorial, just a guy who supports EM representing my own thoughts and opinions. But while I'm here ... I don't believe EM has ever had a kid transfer in from an IN public school (who played varsity at that public school) who was ruled eligible to play varsity immediately. But in contrast, I can think of at least 5 kids in the last 3-4 years (who played varsity football and soccer for us) and have transferred out to a local public school and been eligible to play varsity immediately at the new school. It's a double standard. Even worse (albeit different scenario) is that last year we had a kid who: (A) had never played American football before; (B) was a 1 year transfer from his homeland of Iceland (that hotbed of American football) as his mother (a former Icelandic candidate for President) and father moved to NYC for her new job; and (C) pretty much had no idea what he was doing but tried very hard and could have at least gotten the experience of playing football under the lights on Friday night during 4th Q mop-up duty in 13 of the games we had that were over by the middle of the 3rd Q. He was ineligible. Go figure... It could have been a wonderful story for the IHSAA to use in PR & marketing for all HS sports. Nah....
  18. Yes, and I would bet they lose more kids to public schools than they get from public schools. Very classy of you to make this point and ups the respect level I already had for you, Coach. Exactly. As long as there is not "undue influence" as defined by the IHSAA, kids should be allowed to go wherever they want and be eligible to play at whatever level they are capable of playing.
  19. Dave Snyder is a good guy... blind as a bat, but a good guy. LOL.
  20. The rankings are just a way to drive web traffic. And the C&P preview of Castle required hip-waders to get through all the BS. Sounds like Coach Hurt was running Dale Carnegie seminars this summer... With the focus on D, does that mean there is no longer an assistant coach for "Offensive Quality Control" in Paradise?
  21. Per Twitter, Evansville North had a midnight practice. Coach P is really making an effort to inject new life, energy and excitement into the program.
  22. I thought it was somewhat interesting that at the media day yesterday, the Central HC simply said "no comment" when asked about the roster. Maybe that simply means he wasn't going to answer a bunch of questions about the kids in question at this point. From the player comments, the coach seems to be a disciplinarian, which could make things interesting going forward. I also get a little tired of hearing excuses about "tough life". Last year Central had kids who had well-publicized circumstances that were far-more challenging and those kids played within the structure of a team that was one break away from a state title. And Central is not alone. Every school - public or private - has kids who grew up with less than ideal situations. As Panther86 said, the proof was in the pudding - it was only when Central had a coach who instilled discipline and self-responsibility that they climbed to the top of the mountain.
