Change of topic. This is what the 6th year or so since the conference re-aligned. The first with out Mishawaka and first with the new Elkhart. How are the different communities feeling about everything? My personal opinion from Bremen is pretty positive and optimistic. I think some felt Bremen would be a punching bag and they were biting off more than they can chew. Aside from basketball (which has been a dumpster fire prior to the changes) the Lions have held their own in most sports. Soccer pulled off a upset of Marian, the tennis team won its first regional and face Carmel on Saturday in semi-state, the girls softball team is a state power. I am paraphrasing a lot on here with results and probably missing a lot of other accomplishments.
The NIC has forced Bremen to step up its game. In the NSC conference success was a stepping stone to post season success. In the NIC, Bremen teams get challenged even more, so facing relative similar status schools isn't that difficult. The goal in any sport is to advance as far as you can, and the NIC prepares them for that.
We still get to keep rivalries with Glenn and Jimtown. Those schools make Bremen better. I like having the challenges of Marian and St. Joe to measure up against. Penn is Penn, and I think the Bremen kids like to dream of David vs. Goliath upsets. I miss New Prairie on the schedule for football, but we still get to see them regularly in other sports. I respect the heck out of the people from Rolling Prairie and New Carlisle, those are good communities. I think their is budding rivalries with Riley and Washington, I don't know how those folks view us.
Have their been hiccups, of course, but overall from my perspective, the conference has been a huge positive for Bremen.
What is everyone else's takes on the NIC?
