Sitting in the parking lot and would tend to think that's possible. Just saw another lightening strike a minute ago. Radar shows activity up to 10. Question would be if there's lightening in that activity all the way through.

USA Today Network media poll Week 2

I agree with this; especially with regard to concessions revenue. Other questions that I would have would also be concerning security. Would larger venues require more security even for small-than-usual crowds? For example, yes, you can probably restrict some seating at Ross-Ade for a local high school game, but there's still a decent amount of acreage and "nooks and crannies" to cover. Would there be an added cost of security and, if so, I'm assuming ticket costs need to be increased to cover that. For concessions, I think that provides the biggest issue for most programs. As a current parent and a former coach, concessions are a tough item. It's hard enough to get folks to work home concessions much less telling them that they are going to have to travel on the road and then work concessions at someone else's facilities, then stick around and do clean-up before being able to get back on the road again. Note that places like Purdue "farm out" some of their concessions and clean-up to local organizations ... plenty of youth program families get paid to work the Purdue games. It's actually a pretty good deal, but I also suspect that Purdue is more than willing to pay well 1) because of the sheer size and 2) the revenues generated. Neither of these would be present though during high school games; at least not at the level that makes it feasible for them to take that on. With that said, potentially you could get a network of colleges/universities to cover the facility costs as part of "giving back to the community" if there was a school from their area that could potentially be in the mix by semi-state. Of course, the other issue is who will have their stadium empty on that weekend pending their own schedules ... which will certainly take precedence. -
Some general info concerning wet bulb temps last August in Marion County. For the most part, there was only roughly a week last August where restrictions might have entered into play at the Cat 3 level. If I recall correctly, many in the state moved game times to get out of that range or rescheduled for Saturday. Here's the link if folks want to play around with some data mining: https://marion-in.weatherstem.com/data?refer=/uindy . It allows you to download data to do your own analysis or provides charts/tables. It's pretty flexible for historical data, location, etc.

My "OH MY" scores of the week!
foxbat replied to Tippy's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Looking forward to this one. Been over a quarter century since these two last met. LCC won the last time 19-8 back in 1998. -
I'll be curious to see if the Jeff-Avon outcome was indicative of Jeff's potential or Avon not living up to theirs. Jeff's an erratic team in the sense that it sometimes depends who shows up on a given night. They tend to have the ability to win out most times, but it depends on the level of discipline and sometimes play calling combinations in circumstances. They will be the dark horse in 5A as everyone thinks they are still in 6A and are going to be surprised that they won't be facing off against Crown Point for the first game of sectionals and will instead likely get Kokomo, McCutcheon, or South Bend Adams.

Preseason AP Poll All Classes
foxbat replied to Titan32's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
They have Chatard in 3A, Luers in 2A, and Harrison in 5A too. -
Given this potential predicted match-up, it's likely that one or both of these teams may be visiting the Sectional of Death in a couple of years. LCC's been to 2A regional the last three years and won it last year before dropping the semi to state champ Luers last season. I'll be interested in seeing Lutheran perform in 2A, but pre-season, IFCA coaches have them ranked #1 with LCC right behind at #2. I could see these two, possibly meeting two years in a row at LOS and splitting the pair ... sending them both up to the SOD.

Don't know about other leagues, but when I coached, our league had insurance coverage as a league which was part of the fees for belonging to the league. This also extended coverage to the teams for game day and league associated activities. Within our program, coaches had to be football coaching certified, in addition to the state requirements for concussion and heat certification/training. That coaching certification carried personal liability coverage too. Facilities where games were held also had to carry liability insurance.

That's typically what the kids from Faith have done ... in small numbers ... but most of the public school youth leagues take the kids from their schools. LCC used to allow kids from the other Christian schools ... St. James Lutheran, Faith Christian, Lafayette Christian ... as well as homeschooled kids to play in their youth program since they didn't have other programs they could play in. I know that Harrison now allows homeschooled kids recently to play in their youth program too, but it will be harder for Faith to have kids, en masse, in structured participation in other programs unless some type of deal can be worked out. It would be interesting to see if Jeff would be willing to accommodate large numbers of kids into their program with the realization that they likely would not continue into high school. The reason I mention Jeff is that Jeff had an agreement with Faith for Faith's home games a Jeff's field when Faith was playing 8-man ball and gave Faith a really good deal.

GridIron Digest Polls 2024

I'm in for 1A and possibly 2A. -
As odd as it sounds, I was more impressed with Zachery and Kiser, when I saw them both in person, for their defensive play as opposed to their offensive, QB style. In the LCC-Sheridan game that I saw, I think it was 2011, LCC shutout Sheridan. If I recall correctly though, that game was not decided until the 4th quarter and the offensive standout for Sheridan that I remembered for that game was a kid whose name I think was Callahan. He was a kid that everytime he touched the ball, you worried that he could break it ... not from speed, but just sheer bowling people over. In that Pioneer game, I think Kiser did more on defense to keep LCC from getting traction. On offense, I remember the Llewellyns being the offensive stars of that game. You could certainly make a case, in both the cases of Zachery and Kiser, in those two specific games, that they both kept the team held together, playing both sides of the ball. Unfortunately, I only got to see those two guys in a single game each. I think, it's certainly a case that, sometimes, a single game might not be an indication of great careers. On the other hand, I had a chance to see Mills all the way from 5th grade through high school graduation and kind of the same with Kidwell when he played youth ball at Benton Central and then later on when he ended up at West Lafayette.

2024 2A Football

I suspect there will be a future thread about 15 pages long about the flaws of SF after they pick up another blue ring in 2A. 😀 Lord, I apologize for that there. -
Know what you mean. Retired from youth coaching back around 2020 when COVID wiped out the season. I realized that COVID was just the catalyst when I attended an LCC scrimmage with Harrison a couple of years later and I'm going down the LCC varsity roster looking at all the kids that I had coached in the youth program that were playing varsity. I then looked at the coaching staff and realized that four of their coaches were kids that I had coached in the youth program. Was definitely time for me to pass the reins with or without COVID.
