  1. Harrison scores on first drive of 2nd half with 60+ yard pass. 2-point conversion is good. Leads West Lafayette 14-0 with 10:10 left in 3Q.
  2. Harrison leads West Lafayette 6-0 a half. Raiders receive kick in 2nd half.
  3. Harrison with another field goal after forcing three 4 and outs in a row. Leads West Lafayette 6-0 with 2:00 left in 2Q.
  4. Harrison up 3-0 over West Lafayette. End of 1Q. Harrison D has looked livelier than the scrimmage.
  5. Right around the 4:20 mark of the first quarter? 😃
  6. Score was 22-0 at the end of 1Q and 29-6 at the half. Jeff scored their first TD with about 5 minutes left in first half and second one with about 6 minutes left in second half. Given three TDs and a safety in the first quarter, it almost looks like Cathedral started subbing earlier in the game instead of waiting until end of 3rd quarter.
  7. I've not seen indication anywhere that it's going to be a package-type item, but it'd be nice if it was for the season given that I have to split time on Friday nights.
  8. Despite being Catholic, sometimes faith is understanding that what CAN be seen is what to bet the smart money on. Last season Jeff lost to Cathedral 43-12 at home. I haven't seen or heard anything that says, in comparison to last season's match-up, that Jeff is significantly better or Cathedral is significantly worse.
  9. Should be. Typically public executions are free. Lord, I apologize for that there!
  10. Is the reasoning for the dress limit that the IHSAA wants to limit player medals/rings to 75 on a side? Or are they worried about teams tossing in a bunch of kids that are just going to be there to grab a medal/ring, but that aren't really varsity? Or is there something legit about 75 players being the upper cap of folks that can fit without incurring a beyond-bound infraction or a realistic safety issue? It would seem like the first two are pretty easily addressed. If the IHSAA only wants to pay for a max of 75 rings/medals they can simply tell a team, "Anything more than 75 is on your dime." The second one is also fairly easy by roster checks from start to end of season. The last one seems like the only really legit reason which might be tied to safety. To some extent, I'm not thinking it's the cost issue of rings/medals since this really would only seem to impact 6A and potentially some 5A schools too ... maybe a couple of 4As ... so that cost would be fairly negligible in the scheme of things. This is especially true given that cheerleaders and other non-players are part of the after-game medal parade in LOS.
  11. It's likely that they may have had injuries earlier in the summer. I saw at least 2-3 Knights that were not dressed for the scrimmage, but were obviously players and not just a student hanging around the sidelines pretending to be with the school yearbook. I know that Harrison had a string of 'em too leading up to the scrimmage. It'll be interesting to see if some of them are back before tomorrow's game with West Lafayette. As for recruits, I'm assuming that's tongue-in-cheek. I counted 40-something kids on the roster that I'd coached in the youth program on the team and I retired back in 2020 ... plus four of the kids that I coached that are now on the coaching staff at LCC. The names that I kept hearing over and over again on the plays are the same familiar ones that I heard on Sundays in the youth league, some of them echoing back to when their siblings played too, with the exception of Gutwein ... but he played junior high ball for LCC about 4-5 years ago.
  12. Saw LCC play Harrison in scrimmage. Defense looked pretty good. Offense is dangerous in the red zone ... shouldn't be too many missed opportunities for the Knights if they get in close. Metzger, the elder, doesn't have the same look as a Barrett, Mills, Munn, etc., but he's dangerously effective and dangerously able to sling a ball when it looks like he's trapped. JV needs some work. Word on the street this summer was that LCC wasn't as good ... opponents should believe that rumor at their own peril. I'll get a chance to see West Lafayette against Harrison this Friday and will have thoughts on the comparisons and implications for the HC.
  13. Used to be devils in there with the Catholics. The Sectional of Death is a lot less scary with West Lafayette and Brebeuf out of there.
  14. Tweaking my picks by just a bit: Benton Central @ Delphi Kankakee Valley @ Rensselaer Lapel @ Hamilton Heights Northwestern @ Twin Lakes Seeger @ Central Catholic South Adams vs Tipton West Lafayette @ Harrison Western @ Tri-West West Central @ Caston Frontier @ Clinton Prairie
  15. MaxPreps shows several IMG teams, but three of them have varsity football ... IMG Academy Bradenton and the Blue and White teams. It's the main one, IMG Academy, that shows Ben Davis. The others show local Florida teams and lower-ranked/non-ranked teams whereas IMG Academy, which shows Ben Davis, also shows top-ranked schools like #11 St. Joseph's Prep and #6 St. Frances Academy.
  16. Only thing I saw about TV/streaming is something called FloFootball out of Florida which is available via AppleTV, Roku, Chromecast and via their app on iOS and Android. https://www.flofootball.com/articles/11034248-how-to-watch-2023-img-fl-vs-ben-davis-in-football
  17. Heading over to LCC to watch Harrison take on LCC.
  18. Don't know about Texas unless it's just recently. Back in 2015 or so, there were requests for Texas schools not to play IMG, but as recently as 2020, IMG had played Duncanville which was a Top-20 national team.
  19. IMG's new board has indicated that it's not taking one-semester transfers anymore, so IMG's "poaching" would be limited to current sophomores and freshmen.
  20. @CoachDurham Thanks for heading this up again this season! Benton Central @ Delphi Kankakee Valley @ Rensselaer Lapel @ Hamilton Heights Northwestern @ Twin Lakes Seeger @ Central Catholic South Adams vs Tipton West Lafayette @ Harrison Western @ Tri-West West Central @ Caston Frontier @ Clinton Prairie
  21. Here's a link from the site: https://www.wane.com/high-school-sports/2023-highlight-zone-preview-bishop-dwenger-saints/ From the article: Last year, Bishop Dwenger battled through injuries at key positions to finish with a 6-4 record. After spending a handful of years in Class 5A due to the IHSAA’s tournament success factor, the Saints are returning to 4A in 2023.
  22. Sounds like he's considering seminary. That's what LCC's Thomas Haan did. Finished high school in the IHSAA's top 25 passers ... at the time ... went on to Purdue, but then felt called to enter the priesthood. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/purdue/2015/10/10/sunday-morning-quarterback-walk--purdue-qb-turned-priest/72980258/ Hope this young man finds what he's looking for or being called to.
  23. Just curious how much neck work is done nowadays? When I played ball back in the 70s, our daily warm-ups had four drills that focused on neck strength and, in the off-season with weight training, we had a couple stations that also worked the neck as well. In coaching here in Indiana, I didn't see a lot of neck-related work although I did implement some in our warm-up shortly before retiring from youth coaching.
  24. Playing back in the 70s, the only time I recalled critique on tackling from coaches was when missing a tackle or letting someone pick up extra yards after contact. As a coach over almost 20 years of youth football coaching, I'm pretty sure I spent more time critiquing safety aspects of tackling than effectiveness in tackling over those years. And, as @btownqbcoach1 said, "sometimes adamantly." As @Impartial_Observer said, it's one thing that definitely changed since us old folks played ... and for the better!
