  1. Geez- I was just making an observation. Sorry- Back to my hole I’ll crawl. Good luck to all teams in sectional 40.
  2. Seeding DOES NOT have to equal a “qualification”’format!!! Seeding would just make for a better tourney format- plain and simple. And yes, it will at least give SOME meaning to the regular season. “Oh- there is going to be a bunch of first round blowouts between the 1v8 and 2v7” So what?? There are blowouts every week. You’d still have PLENTY of competitive match-ups round one
  3. You do realize that Southridge is still 2A by enrollment, correct??
  4. STOP IT!! This always happens every year when seeding gets talked about - the "playoff qualification mafia" shows up and tries to make this a conversation about them - IT IS NOT!! We can still let everyone in and seed the darn thing!!
  5. So your argument AGAINST seeding is it leads to less blowouts?? Ok, tell that to the 8-1 team playing a 9-0 team first round. Again - it doesn't HAVE to lead to a qualification. People forget that a 4 v. 5 game, 3 v. 6, heck whatever seeded game can still be very competitive. You act like it will be a week of 60 to whatever scores. It won't. What I'm trying to say is - I don't think those are strong enough points to keep from vastly improving our tourney. I really think the IHSAA is just stubborn and "by gawd that's the way we've always done it" (the WORST excuse for anything)
  6. Don't post much on here. Enjoying reading about different teams/conferences. If there is one subject that I would qualify myself as "passionate" about - it is SEEDING the Sectionals. I just don't get it (?) as to why they are NOT. I think almost every person I've come across says "Ya, that would make a lot of sense" or "Ya I'd like to see that get done" SOOOOOO - what is the IHSAA drawback to it?? What are their reasonings?? 1. It doesn't have the coaches support?? (I find that hard to believe) 2. It's going to lead to a qualification process?? (It doesn't HAVE to) I've honestly yet to hear a good argument against it..... "Oh it'd be too hard to figure out if teams don't play each other and/or different conferences" - BOGUS- you can/wrestling coaches do it all the time.
  7. Imagine the serenity that seeding would bring this time of year. Maybe the IHSAA just likes the chaos.
  8. And THUS - we'll never get to see seeding happen because of pushes like this. I get that some of you WANT a qualification system - but seeding would be better than the current "blind draw" . I.E. seeding is better than nothing - and I really don't understand why the lack of support for it?
  9. Interesting take- but seeding DOES NOT have to lead to playoff qualification (even though I know that’s been your push for years and IMO- is what is holding seeding back- that and 1/2 of all Coaches want the “dream draw”) Wrestling for years has had the 1 v 8 and it doesn’t mean every wrestlers still doesn’t make the tourney.
  10. Been preaching that for years (not that anyone listens and/or cares). Lock the HC and AD’s in a room with seeding criteria- ie Head-to-Head, common opponent, etc...AND LET THEM FIGURE IT OUT!! It’s really not that hard- seen it done for years in wrestling rooms across the State. It is sheer laziness or unwillingness or the “by God we’ve always done it this way” mentality of the IHSAA that is sooo frustrating. One small change, an hour meeting could make the tourney that much better, and really wouldn’t take anything away from it. Rant over
  11. So...gotta ask, and apologize if it’s been mentioned somewhere in these SIAC threads...I don’t follow that closely- but peek in from time/time. Whatever happened to the Evans boys from Central?? Last I heard- it was transfer to Princeton, then Illinois, then somewhere else?? Have they graduated yet??
  12. YUP! Been beating that drum for several years. Having coached wrestling for 12 years - I've seen it can be done. Was it always perfect?? No, but a heckuva lot better than the alternative (blind draws) Unfortunately - if it doesn't have the support of coaches - it will never make it to the IHSAA. And sadly, 50% of coaches (estimate) are always gonna like the "blind draw" - cause they could be coaching that 2-7 or 1-8 team that gets the dream draw and makes it all the way to the Championship, only to be drummed by 30.
  13. I'm so confused by this whole thread! An onside kick, if traveled 10 yards, can be received by the kicking team, correct? But you're telling me that if the kick is airborne, (hasn't hit the ground yet), then it can't be recovered by the kicking team? I could see where some confusion may happen.
  14. Not so fast my friend (in my best Lee Corso) This game is one of the more intriguing match-ups this week I believe. Having scouted both...I think it’s pretty close to a toss-up..from what I’ve seen- I may give the edge to Linton.
  15. STUPIDEST.DECISION.EVER. "I feel completely FINE. Have had NO SYMPTOMS, have tested NEGATIVE (twice) - yet you're telling me I still need to sit out 3 weeks my senior season??? Coach I feel FINE. " (tears in his eyes) Yes, that's a conversation I've had to have this season...more than once. STUPID.
  16. IMO - Gibson has very little problem with Boonville. Mockabee is legit, but Gibson will have too much. GS by 21 or more...
  17. Shut down the ENTIRE building because of a “couple positives in the building??” Geez...seems like a bit of an overreach. We’ve had our run-ins, but never thought of shutting down.
  18. From where we sit- there’s not much difference in the 2. We just went where our enrollment put us. We’re still playing Gibson, HH ...we’d still be playing Jasper if they hadn’t jumped ship. You really think we were scared of the likes of Princeton, Washington, and whoever else makes up the big school conference. Give me a break...
  19. My fault. Should have just kept my trap shut. I will say - in response to the low blow comment about Pike Central and “small school division” ...the big school/small school thing was a SOLUTION to the Big 8 “leftover” teams. I was never personally in favor of it- but it did allow some teams to alter/change their schedule as they saw fit. If you think anyone’s gonna be pounding their chest because of a small school conference championship- well then you’re dreaming. We have always set our sights much higher- hence being the only school besides Memorial to be playing UP a class due to the success factor. MD can thank us later for their 2 sectional trophies (assuming they win this year) while we’re not there.
  20. How do I say this politely without causing a s&@$t storm?? Perhaps the vaunted SIAC is - how do you say...not as “vaunted”?? Jasper comes in and has a legit shot to claim the conference crown...😕 Memorial is experiencing a turnover after some great years MD...well...let’s just say the success factor has benefited them moving Southridge out of their way. Central ...I guess they’re pretty good?? Now North has became the top dog?? Too bad sectionals USED to let all these arguments play themselves out- but not so much anymore...
  21. The same could probably be said to Snider on a smaller scale with Homestead and Carrol becoming more dominant?? Suburban powers really shouldn’t be all that surprising when you break down the socioeconomics of it all. Not that that’s everything- but it’s a good starting point. People don’t wanna live in “the City” anymore...the American Dream is moving out to that culdasec in “every townUSA” The Ben Davis and Warren’s of the world can/will still be successful...but you really need that dominant HC personality walking those hallways to bring it all together- lots of challenges to face. IMHO
