  1. LOL ....this seems to have become Bobref's "cross-to-bear" so-to-speak. Maybe that's not the correct phrase..."white whale" ?? Just something that he seems to be very passionate about. I think I have issue with interpretation of the rule- but we've gone down that rodeo before lol
  2. I know Providence has a solid squad - but I have a hard time believing a team that lost to 1A Providence will give HH trouble. Duly noted...
  3. Wait...what?? You don't stand a chance of beating Pike Central?? Ok then...
  4. Have not seen a bit of film on the Panthers this season, so I may totally eat my words - but if Boonville has their heads on straight, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Panthers heading home Friday. Just saying...
  5. I know 10-0 vs. 10-0 is exciting. And kuddos to Owen Valley for reaching that mark and turning around their program BUT - I don't think they have any idea what they're in store for Friday night. Just my humble opinion
  6. I don't think anyone is saying there will be a perfect system in any format - but what seeding does allow that the "blind draw" does not is giving credence to a good regular season. The regular season should mean SOMETHING. Wrestling coaches have figured this out for years. You establish a criteria, and stick with it. Will there be some grumblings about who got the #1 or who got the #5...sure, but it sure as heck beats the alternative of having 1-8 playing 1-8 while 2 unbeaten play in the 1st round. And anyone who can't see that is just being stubborn. Which brings me to my last point in all of this - unfortunately the IHSAA isn't going to take any action without the nudging of the IFCA...and unfortunately half of the coaches in the State won't support seeding, because they are hoping for that 2-7 vs. 1-8 and to be able to "sneak" into the 2nd round or Championship. Which, to me, is too bad.
  7. I can't/nor do I want to go through all 6 pages of this thread, but in my skimming of the material I think something gets over-looked and overshadowed by the "qualifying" people. Seeding DOES NOT have to equal a qualifying process. YOU CAN STILL HAVE AN ALL-IN, SEEDED sectional! It really is THAT SIMPLE and, IMO, improves the tournament greatly and brings us towards the 21st century. It gives value to a good regular season (even if it is not perfect) and its not that hard. Wrestling coaches have been figuring it out for years.
  8. What the heck did we do to get dragged into the conversation?? Our numbers and socioeconomics (what do you call it..."true enrollment" or whatever) tend to dictate some things. But we have our process and it works for us. (I notice no mention of last Friday night outcomes....) But, carry on I guess....if I could find a Will Smith meme (Keep our/my name out your mouth lol) I would, just not enough time. lol
  9. BoonVegas's defense is pretty tough/physical (no idea what happened in the Linton game) - they could maybe pose a few problems for Gibson ...but eventually GS will figure it out and put points up. Meanwhile, I don't see Boonville's O posing many problems for that Titan D...I believe Gibson will win fairly convincingly and end another stellar regular season. Which, if I'm doing my math correctly ...is SR the last INDIANA team to beat the Titans, and that was 2 years ago?? That's pretty remarkable.
  10. Appreciate the Courier's effort to bring the issue to light - but it is not new to this year nor will it stop in the future. Those that play the game best will reap the rewards. Publishers hands are tied really for coming out and calling it what it is - everyone is afraid to get sued nowadays - IHSAA included.
  11. So - what a minute here - you're telling me that we can have 5 in the backfield and have a legal formation?!? Or..the 6 man on the line is only when considering 10 players in the game?
  12. Is this thread serious??? Isn't there a big push in the NFL right now to get rid of all sod/grass fields because of injuries?? Believe it was the Shepard receiver who went down on Monday night and they made a big deal about grass fields being unsafe.
  13. And so back to my original question on the subject - how is what you described ANY DIFFERENT than what Bob posted with the punt scenario??
  14. In all your years of officiating and evaluating football, you mean to tell me you can't picture in your head the above scenarios?? (Flexbone motions, hand-clap/hard count/"check with me") Or are we just avoiding the question because there is no good explanation for why one is called, and the others are not??
  15. I'm not smart enough to embed a video clip - but can you explain the difference in the above clip and say - a flexbone team doing the "dummy motion" with a hard snap count. Aren't they both "clearly intended to cause B to encroach?" As since we're using that quote in the rulebook - isn't the "hand clap/hard count/check with me" doing the same thing??
  16. We lived in the Mater Dei world during our time in 2A - so we were well versed in the public/private world. It is a little ironic, that down here in our Southwestern neck of the woods - it would be a GS Titan pointing out the "effective enrollment" (I like that term by the way) difference between the 2 (Public vs. Private) - given Gibson's socioeconomic status vs. some other neighboring public schools. Point being - GS is still far better off than most other public's - but it doesn't change your original point either of it not being the same deck of cards vs. Private's. As is life I guess...
  17. Now it all makes so much sense...
  18. If you say so. Believe we start 3 seniors on offense (one because of an injury), and 5 on defense?? Granted- I get your point - it's better than having 2 on the entire roster. I figured it was just an off night as such and NP was better than they showed.
  19. From an HH perspective - I get the Boonville loss...they are pretty tough. What in the world happened in the NP-HH game?? That one raised an eyebrow... Maybe it was just one of those nights.
  20. Not into the rumor game - but word on the street is Coach Wilk is getting a lot of heat to make this happen. Will see how it transpires...
  21. Always enjoy reading your write-ups. You bring a lot to the digest, and I don't want to be "that-guy" that picks apart one line in an otherwise great write up... BUT - you are better than that. Come on man
  22. Haven't read through all the mumble/jumble in this thread, so apologize if I'm beating a "dead horse" here - but this is not SHOCKING news in the least. Well, a little shocking that it would be an assistant Coach doing the contacting...the modus operandi usually involves a parent doing the heavy lifting trying to sway a family or 2 to said new school. Appreciate the IHSAA at least trying to have some sort of rules/regulations - but they are fighting a losing battle in most cases.
  23. Red zone mistakes (penalties and turnovers of our own) will do that.
  24. Charlestown with 2 nice victories to start the season. (Silver Creek and Brownstown). For someone not from around the area - was this expected or kind of unforseen?? How were the Pirates last year? They return a lot I'm assuming?
