  1. Not to hijack this thread - but the title of it reminded me that we are almost to my "favorite" (SARCASM) part of the football season - the PLAY TO THUD/QUICK WHISTLE portion of the summer with these 11X11 scrimmages or whatever you want to call them Some annoyances to try and avoid for you new coaches - or advice for coaches that just don't get it: 1. This is NOT the Super Bowl 2. Your actions (Coaches) a lot of times will "fuel" the problems that will arise in the scrimmage. (Hooting/hollering, chest-bumping, etc...) 3. Football is already a combative and emotional sport, don't egg it on by inappropriate actions - AND, if you have a player taking it over the edge, remove him/her until they understand no trophies are handed out in June/July 4. As you can probably tell, I DESPISE these things cause I don't really think football can be played at THUD level...someone (either an RB lowering his shoulder) or a safety running full speed downhill will start it...then the next play someone else has to get it back, and on and on. - That said, I know they are not going away - so here is to hoping everyone stays healthy and understands the purpose of these things.
  2. Uh....yes.... they do. I have walked the hallways of Memorial, I have walked the hallways of Mater Dei - and I have walked the hallways of Southridge. They are not the same - not even close.
  3. Because they have obvious built-in advantages over their public 1A counterparts .
  4. Just like seeding the sectionals- it really is NOT that hard. Just bump the P/P up one class and be done with it. They have built-in advantages over Public schools and anyone who denies that is just delusional.
  5. And you would LOSE that bet - as we (SR) open up with HH week 1 @ the Jungle thanks to Tecumseh being added and scheduling shuffling. Could/Should be one of the more marquee match-ups around the State in week 1 - but I wouldn't pay it much attention as we're not suppose to be any good, ever.
  6. 557 to 511 seems to suggest other factors than just "small community class fluctuation" ....A business shut down? Another school opening up? Programs being cut at the school?? In Social Studies class we call these things "push factors" .... You don't see any "push factors" that have driven down enrollment?
  7. A quick google search shows that WeBo's enrollment dropped significantly following the 2015-16, 16-17 cycle to the next 2 year window (17-18, 18-19) from 557 to 529 ....any particular reason for such a big drop? And it looks like it has been on the decline ever since? People leaving to Lebanon? New School open up?
  8. Can you tell us what his role in the building will be?? Will he be continuing his position as a math teacher?
  9. SO...this is good enough for basketball and baseball, but not for football??
  10. So...can anyone/is anyone willing to answer if Coach will be staying in his current position in the classroom or is he moving to a more/less curriculum demanding position?
  11. I've beat this drum for a couple years now - but doesn't get much pub as its not a place that most (especially on a football forum) want to go. I would venture to guess less than 15% of Head Coaches (in football) are actually in charge of CORE class instruction. (I know, I know PE teachers...it is just as important. And I agree) . The demands of curriculum, lesson plans, Admin pressure, have become just too much to do a good job and try and run a successful program. And this is not a slight and/or insult, I think just the reality of the job nowadays. I would be interested to know if Coach Mann is remaining in his Math position.
  12. Mann, who teaches geometry and algebra, said he counts those state championship-winning coaches among his friends and mentors. Mann also coached on Mark Haste’s staff at North Central from 2006-08 and Keith Shelton in 2009 and ’10 before moving over to Lawrence Central to coach with West. After the Bears won the Class 5A state title in 2012, Mann joined West at Warren Central, which won the first 6A title in 2013. Bravo Coach....bravo.
  13. He can make every throw you'd want out of a high school QB. In 2020- 2 of our best players had DI baseball scholarships- but they loved to play and compete. That's what high school sports should be all about. (Granted, we lost a BIGGIE to baseball only - but - that was understandable. If you're going to get drafted, then you get a pass)
  14. If I'm not mistaken- as it stands (or was)- the PAC was split evenly with 6 schools in both the Big and Small Divisions. With the addition of Tecumseh, and don't get me started on their story - one division will have an odd # - so "shape up both divisions" is not mathematically possible. SR already plays Gibson, Boonville, and HH on their schedule. And in most years, TC and NP are better games than Washington and Princeton would be...so, what do divisions really matter in that sense?
  15. I've beaten this drum for a number of years on the GID - but with the demands of instruction and curriculum, the days of the "classroom coach" (talking Head Coach) is becoming more and more rare. PE, advanced PE, strength, "director of sports performance" (this was a new one to me!), etc...seem to be the Head guy's role anymore. Not saying right/wrong/indifferent - just observations.
  16. Congrats to Coach Hart. "Hart will also fill the director of sports performance position at North Central." Always of interest to me when a HC is hired, what position (if any) he will fill within the school corporation. Can someone explain to me what the above position is?? Assuming "director of sports performance" is like a strength coach?
  17. 100% agree - and normally I would never bring up/discuss a coaches hire and/or departure - but in this instance I felt the Coach opened up that can of worms by mentioning "institutional transparency and collaboration" - and I was just curious as to what, in fact, that actually meant?
  18. What am I missing here?? Isn't/Can't encroachment result in a first down??
  19. So give up Coaching and leading a program because of State-wide standardized testing??? Not sure I "buy" that...in reading the article, it seemed more "localized" than that.
  20. Why so vague?? I mean, kuddos for not just giving the "cookie-cutter" resignation speech/interview (i.e. time with family, done all I could, etc..) - but if you're gonna go the route of throwing Administration under the bus, why not be clear in your reasoning??
  21. I'm not sure about that statement. Just my opinion from someone who has had experience with both on the football field.
  22. Haha....this would affect probably more publics than it would privates. While the OBVIOUS advantages the P/P's have - and have been discussed at nauseum on this forum ( with good reason) - an issue that is becoming more and more apparent throughout the State is the "poaching" and/or transferring of players. I know the IHSAA is doing the best they can - but to me they are failing massively. It it looks like a duck, and smells like a duck....well you get what I'm saying. Some of these transfers are SO PAINFULLY obvious, yet they are allowed. Freedom of choice, yada yada. I get it...I'm just asking if that's what we want HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS to turn into?? Basically AAU athletics? Without getting into details and naming names (which I don't think is appropriate on a public forum), I know for certain that the last three southern 3A public representatives for the State finals have had numerous players that transferred in and started for the Varsity programs at some point in their high school careers. ps. Just bump P/P's up a class - it is REALLY that simple.
  23. LOL....you clearly haven't seen Lawrenceburg much in the past couple years - they could throw it around the lot and were quite good at it. Good coaches coach to their players strength - L-Burg knew where their bread was buttered this year and made it to Lucas.
