I'll kindly pass, not worth the time. I just know that a team was up this past weekend 35-0 and lost. Gotta go for the jugular. As a coach, I'm running the score up to 49-0 in the first half. If I have an opportunity to score again before halftime, I'm taking a knee, the game is over. If I'm up 35-0 in the second half, I'm letting the 2nd string run down the clock. 6 Quote
kdets89 Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 (edited) Lutheran was up 49-0 at halftime, and the final score was 49-8. I propose an amendment to the RUTS methodology that exempts any team whose halftime score equals their final score. Edited September 15, 2024 by kdets89 Can't type. 2 Quote

His methodology doesn't make any more sense today than it did 15 years ago. LCC plays Benton Central in a few weeks, and will soon be a multi-week offender. Seeger is already a muti-week offender and LCC doesn't want Seeger to get too far in front of them. 🙂 1 Quote

We were up 30-0, so what Muda thinks we should do is get down to the 10, kick a field goal, and then every time we get the ball back, try to punt it down to the 1 on first down every time to work towards a safety. This of course would mean we keep our number 1 defense on the field and continue to physically beat up the other team, rather than score a touchdown, get the running clock, and put 2's in to show the mercy he wants everyone to show. We did not do what Muda would have wanted and we scored the touchdown to get the running clock and get our varsity off the field. Quote

I'm a pretty compassionate guy, I'm not bothered by blowouts until it gets into the 60's and 70's. I think it's ok to show mercy at that point. If I'm a head coach and in a situation to give my second string QB some reps, I can assure you that I'm not sending him out there to had the ball off every time. On the surface, passing the ball when there is a running clock might look like "running up the score," could be a situation where the second string QB is getting passing practice. However, if the margin is in the 50's, the second string QB should have been in the game long enough to get some passing reps in, so no need to pass at that point. Be gentlemen and run the clock out. BTW, RP narrowly missed the multi-week offender list by 1 point Quote

If you're a 15-18 kid and have the ball, you want to score. Human nature. "Woody, why did you go for 2?" "Because I couldn't go for 3..." Quote

First_Backer_Inside Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 I think the system is just a little flawed @Muda69, some teams don't have a good place kicker, so getting exactly +35 points is numerically impossible for some us. Could you give some our teams a pass with like a +36-38 point differential? Darn soccer players won't take a little time out of there week to put some pads and a helmet on and kick it through the uprights for us. Quote
