THAT was a big holding call before half- WOW.

The fumble just now was even bigger. BC catching breaks.

BC people will probably disagree, but this game shouldn't have been that close. Linton probably should have won by 2 scores.

Miners overcame some huge mistakes & questionable play calling.

Neutral here but id also add that playing on grass helped too. Brownstown was slipping all over. Crazy that 1 penalty that cost Linton I think was their only one of ball game.

I’ll eat crow on this one…did not see that one coming.

Thought field conditions weren’t great, but man that Oliver kid was a tough cover

I'll add on questionable play calling. Linton was killing them in air. (Paoli did too in 2nd round before it fell apart and they run flexbone). Felt like Brownstown did an amazing job on run minus 2 runs. 1 was a great reversal of field after an over purist and other looked like he was stopped in backfield but broke lose. Kept waiting for Linton to spread em out and keep throwing it, but they didn't and thought it was gonna cost em. Oliver is awesome.

Best part....Linton has 7 seniors. Brownstown 6. Think we can do it again next year!

Linton fans have to be thrilled after the first week game. BTW the Flyers won 61-0 tonight & fully expect them to beat their toughest playoff opponent in Regional Final next week. Now to face Indy Lutheran! Good luck Miners our twin to the South!

I went back and watched that play several times over. It was definitely called on the left tackle, but I will say this in confidence. 8 out of 10 officials would not call that a hold based upon other holds not called in this game. They were letting them play and I think that one should have definitely been a play on. The DE on that side was not even complaining. That to me is usually a sign it should not have been called.

People were talking about Brownstown's offensive scheme. What they did not know apparently was Linton has ran  similar schemes in the past. This undoubtedly helped in the preparation. They weren't going to be surprised by much. Playing on a grass field definitely helped, as it looked like Brownstown almost didn't know what grass was at times after playing basically all turf fields this season. Linton slipped a little too, but made better adjustments to keep their footing.

I will say that this game really was decided by about 2-3 plays. When #1 broke loose on the long run in the 4th, Oliver chasing him down was the biggest. If he doesn't, that's a touchdown and more than likely the game. Play #2 was when Linton's defense was able to get #40 out of bounds. That acted as our 3rd timeout. That gave us our chance. The final play was the first 4th down play in the 4th quarter. They go for it instead of kicking the field goal. The thing is, #10 was open past the sticks. Oliver chased down the QB and altered the pass. Those plays were much more important than the 2 point conversion. Any of those go the other way, we probably have a different outcome. Linton could have came up with a better 2pt conversion play on the last score. Playing from behind instead of ahead changes perspective sometimes.

Regardless, this was still one of of my favorite games to have watched since at least 2016. Hats off to Brownstown on a fantastic season. There is a good possibility we do it again next year.

Agree 100%. We talked about the FG/going for it decision too. My assumption was lack of confidence in kicking on grass. But yes. This post is perfect explanation.

After the game, there was a Linton Fan waving a towel and filming the walk thru line yelling at players, not sure who he was yelling at, but was funny to see him removed from the field by who I assume was the AD.  That is why fans belong in the stands and not standing on the field or end zones.

If it the guy I think your talking about. I don't think he's all there. He was doing something at halftime. At halftime he filmed both teams and saying the Lutheran score. I think anyways that's what he was doing. Didn't pay much attention other than thinking to myself shut the f up

Agree. He was also doing it pregame as teams were coming on field. Also was holding a football. I also find it odd both teams enter and leave at same gate. Makes entrances kinda odd. Haha

yes, they have the one gate that leads from their new building for both locker rooms, normally we enter the gate before they do, and just run to our sideline, instead of staying in that end zone

Linton though, does use the opposite side of the field from that gate to warm up, so thats nice they dont make the opponent go to the opposite end.  We have never had a problem entering the same gate as Linton does,  now the fans in the end zones, well  they are a different story all together.

But watching the game last night, i gotta give it up to Linton, great game, never lost focus, didn't let anything in the game get them down and just kept playing. Great game by both teams.  Only 2 opponents Monrovia lost to are playing for a State Title appearance.

First and foremost, congratulations to the Miners, probably the hardest hitting and most physical team we have seen in a while. Great team, great coaching, and made it happen when and where it mattered.

That being said, I was super frustrated watching our kids slip and fall down on plays that they consistently run for 40, 50, 80 yards. There was no cutbacks available due to the field and it was blatantly obvious...they may have well been playing on ice. I know, I know, it's the same for both teams, you can't control the conditions, yada, yada, yada, all of which is correct, and not trying to make any excuses, just saying that it was very frustrating to see the field, not the defense, force us out of our game plan and be limited to running mostly between the tackles. I can recall 4 - 5 plays that would have gone 40+ yards on a decent field.

We definitely made some mistakes, I am not sure if not kicking the FG was one of them, kicking is tough in a mud pit too. Going out of bounds in the 4th was a rough one.

At the very end, it may not have mattered (assuming everything played out the same), but the QB was 100% down on the 2 point on the first TD. It would have been nice to see a one play, do or die for the title at the end though instead of giving them 2 free points in the 1st.

If only we had use of instant replay, or if coaches even noticed it to challenge.  These are things that happens in games every week. The officials cannot and will not see everything.   As far as the grass field is,  well, probably the reason we have a grass field at Monrovia(and cost), it just gives us an edge now these days that didn't exist a few years ago. Now that alot of teams all have field turf, having to come play on grass is just that much more advantageous.

Oh I know he was down, I said it from the stands. The white hat fell and lost site of his only responsibility. It sucks, but it happens. One could argue that the holding call that brought back the touchdown was a blown call too, especially with the way the rest of the game was called. We have seen many blown calls go the opposite way over the years. I will say I am glad this one went in our favor. As far as the field goal, it was about a 32 yard attempt. His extra points were going that distance.

This does not take away from the fantastic game that was played. It’s one of those that it sucks to see a team lose, controversial or not. But man, a 2 point conversion for the win would have made it even better. 😁

Yea, some of the fans in the end zone are terrible. I stand in the north end zone a lot, and just shake my head. The week we played you guys, I had a good conversation with your kids running the camera because they were confused about the officiating, as was everyone else in attendance for obvious reasons. A game should never run 3+ hours with two running/balanced teams. They listened to my explanations and asked questions. Good bunch of kids you guys helped mold into young men.

Spot on Bobby.  I seriously didn't think they would consider a FG... too much can go wrong.  I figured they'd keep grinding it out either using the clock to the end or scoring.  And man...#1 Garrison was gone... I thought he was endzone bound... and Oliver running his down AND making the tackle without any doubt won that game as much as anything.  I did wonder how BC would deal with grass field...that was wet from rain all week.  Just as I would be concerned about Linton playing on Turf... altho we have been on turf more this year on away games.  Like MOnrovia...the grass field...practicing in grass, dealing with mud... we do it all year.  I did see Linton guys slipping as well.  It affected both teams...I did see Brave runners try to cut back and go down... I saw McBride slip on the 2 point play and his knee definitely was down... and I know we won by 1 so that's naturally gonna be a topic.. but it was early early on.  I agree on the holding call.  I see it looks legit, but as has been said.. you could call holding on about every play LOL.  It was a killer to Linton tho.. wiped out a huge TD play going into the half with BC getting the ball to start 3rd.  Going down 21-8 I really thought that was it.  Can't forget the pass play to Oliver that looked like sure score inside the 5 that Hehman jarred out and was a touchback... Jesse Voigtschild # 8 refused to let it be so...  altho the whole team responded.

I thought we were talking about end of the game...FG or not... that was way too far out and chancy.  I see the discussion is about going for it at 14...  a 31 yard shot earlier in the 4th... yeah... that would have been much more thought...3 more points would have mean 24-16 and linton would have had not only scored... but gotten the 2 points just to tie.
