I think I'm going to pick North to upset Reitz.  Other than that, I like the favorites.

North’s DL against Reitz run game will be an important factor for that game. That defensive front is massive and I thought the rest of their defense was good too.

What's up with Reitz? Barely squeezes by VL and beat by a Jasper team that is certainly not their best.  I thought Reitz was really going to be something this year.

Sounds like there's trouble in the locker room, fighting on the sidelines, and an injured RB.

Jasper, Castle and Vincennes Lincoln will win by whatever margin they want. MD/Memorial will be a close one, but RB Kendrick will be the difference so give me the Tigers by 7 in a 24-17 final. I could see Reitz bouncing back and nipping North unless the Huskies have success on the ground bc they just aren't a good passing team. Give me Reitz in a 28-27 squeaker.

One of the best players in the conference (RB/WR Darrett) is injured and possibly out for the season. Obviously has been devastating for their offense. Their starting LT also got injured and unsure when/if he will be back. Also seems like they're having some QB issues. Their offense right now relies on a freshman. Although he is very good. It's just not the right formula. Coach Brunson will have to get creative the rest of the way. They have enough talent to win most games, but when it matters, that offense simply won't be fooling anybody. I think they are middle of the pack unless they figure some things out.

Seems like an ironic question coming out of Newburgh.

Looking at the past 3 seasons, seems like they're doing a good job "putting it together", especially since the 3 seasons before that were losing seasons. I think I heard something along the lines of they could be the first SIAC team in history to have 4 straight 10+ win seasons if they do it this year.

Jasper in a running clock.

Castle in a running clock.

Lincoln by 3 scores.

Memorial by 2 scores.

Reitz by 2 scores.

Didn't Mater Dei have like 5 straight 11+ win seasons back in 2010 to 2014?

Good catch, you're correct! For that, I think I meant in Reitz history. The SIAC history nugget was Reitz winning the conference by 3+ games twice in a row ('22-'23), when it hadn't even been done once before. Point is, they have been doing a good job "putting it together" at all levels. Will they take the next step and start making more playoff runs though? That's the big question. IMO, probably not anytime soon. They will need a very good QB and line to come through. They have plenty of talent but defenses have learned how to scheme against their offense.

They should have made it to Semi-State last year, just under a minute away and then that blocked punt and score 20 seconds later.

Just seems like they always have discipline and team issues.   I think that may be a result of how they build their teams though.   Not saying I blame them.  Heck it’s honestly EVSC’s fault I. How they divided up the city school zones and then let anyone go anywhere they want within the EVSC.

2010-2015, 6 seasons with 11 wins or more
they also had 10 or more for 4 seasons in 98 - 01

Lots of transfers at Reitz.

The population on the west side and at Reitz is much different than it was back in the day. It's not no Newburgh, that's for sure. If individual players have emotion control issues or lack discipline, it does not necesarilly reflect on the program or the coaching staff. Their background and home life should be considered more before they are judged too harshly. All I'm saying.

And actually, the EVSC has apparently been very strict when it comes to transfers, even after the new IHSAA rule. I heard of a handful that were turned down. Basically, it sounds like the EVSC is still following their old rules on reasoning and who can transfer, but still making senior transfers follow the new sit-out rule. It's an odd scenario and seems like the privates and other districts will benefit from it more.

I doubt it. EVSC has always blocked kids going to Memorial and Mater Dei, but maybe that will be resolved by the new IHSAA transfer rule. I know North had a pretty lineman a year or two ago that wanted to transfer to Memorial and the Principal/AD said they would block him and fight the transfer, so he stayed at North.

MD lost one of its top returning WRs who transferred to North so it does cut both ways.  Historically, MD has gotten most of its transfers btwn 8th grade and Freshman year.  We did have a transfer from MT Vernon this season but that was a non-EVSC situation so they had no influence.

Sorry if this hit a nerve for you man.  Just seems like Reitz always has discipline issues recently.  Wasn’t that way before.   I know many players who were on the early 2000’s and state teams.  The teams today are built different and held to different standards.  Even the Reitz faithful say this.  This is the map I am talking about.  Seems like a really weird way to divide up the city.
