So, now that Memorial at Gibson Southern is offical, who wins and why?  It's the best game in the state next Friday!

The bye week is considered a home game, so 1 home/1 away. It happened back in 2019 when Memorial got the bye week in Sectional 24. They traveled to Boonville and then immediately traveled to Central for the Championship game.

John Harrell’s future pairings has Memorial or Gibson Southern on the road for the championship game.

You could ask for the Hudl video if it has sound on them. Unsure how GS does their Hudl videos, but I’m pretty sure you can enable sound before you can record.

Ahhh i see, did not know this. thank you for clearing that up! Have not seen any Bye weeks in sectional 32 prior to this year!

I believe recorded sounds are not allowed. I'm just hoping the farmers spray manure in the fields this week so we get the full country effect.

This is the first (and maybe final) year of the bye week in the sectional from what I remember. Unsure if there was a bye week in S32 when Memorial was in 4A. It also depends if we get another team in the sectional next season when realignment starts again in the spring time. But it looks like 3A has 3 or 4 sectionals that have a bye week, so we will see what the IHSAA does.

Let me just say THIS.  

At my Round One game last night.  May as well have been a Cheech and Chong situation with the smell of WEED emitting on and around the field.  DAMN!!!  It was thick.  

I am actually kinda worried that I may not pass a drug test if given on Monday.  😗

It's a coin toss.  After Round 1, the computers seemed to have balanced everything out.  Sagarin is basically a wash. My take Harrell is giving GS 1 point for being home.
My opinion,
Gibson Southern wins because:
1. Their O-Line.  I listened to the HH game on the radio.  The commentators acted like Foster really changed his performance as the game went on and made things happen.  I finally went back and watched it.  My view was the O-line began dominating the HH front.  The holes Foster was running through were cavernous.  They made the HH defense look sluggish and slow.  They wore HH down. It was a disservice to those big boys not giving credit where due in live action, but that is the life of a lineman.  
2. Although the GS upperclassmen, were barely entering Jr. High the last time these teams played, I would think they are well aware of Memorial coming into the Jewell 3 consecutive years to end the season of very good GS teams 2016-2018 before moving on to 4A.  They knocked HH down already this year, I am sure they are ready to do the same to Memorial.
3. Memorial offense has been inconsistent at times this year with execution and penalties.  I've never seen a team get so many TD's called back for penalties, while the infraction not really aiding in the play outcome. If the law of averages align to the negative side, it will be tough to overcome.

Memorial wins because:
1. Their Defense. The starters only allowed MD, Reitz, and Castle to score. (5 TD's (3,1,1) total all season)  The Reitz TD was inconsequential at the end of the game.  Castle had one big 4th down pass play very well executed.  Castle actually had negative yards rushing for the game. The offense will play just good enough, but the defense will be key.  If GS score 3 TD's or more, they win I think.
2. It's tough to pick against a John Hurley Memorial team during the tournament. I have seen rabbits out of the hat many times.  Already showed one earlier this season against MD. He nearly always finds a way.   But if he doesn't, congrats to the winner.  There has only been 1 time in the last 8 years that a Memorial loss in tournament wasn't to the eventual state champion.

I expect this to be a fantastic game.  If it is not, GS wins.  I don't expect the Memorial offense to be able to run away with this one, but the defense will hold.

Gibson Southern’s DL is also very good and fast too, I believe one of the reporters at the GS-HH game said that GS was winning the trenches on both sides. Feels like the trenches will be a major factor in this game. Going to be a great atmosphere at the Jewell Friday night!

This.  Last year in sectional when we were up 21-0 and everybody was giddy about an upcoming blowout, I said that had no confidence about winning the game as Hurley is one of the best coaches in Southern Indiana, maybe the best....then they came out in the 2nd half and tied it up 21-21.  I hated to say "i told you so". 

With that said Hart is one of the best coaches in the area as well.  I haven't seen Memorial play, but I believe GS pulls this off and wins state, gotta go with the PAC brethren.  The good news is that you aren't playing for 2nd place in 3A this year.

I concur. Gibson definitely walked away with the right to anoint themselves "Kings of the Trenches" on both sides of the ball that terrible tragic September night.

🤣🤣 This is an absolutely ridiculous statement.  These kids have never heard of Lindauer or Combs.  And you might be suprised to know how 2016-2018 rank in the list of Hart teams.  Those teams were also before we were able to beef up the scheudle with the PAC spit which has been huge for us.

As far as ridiculous, GS has a starting DB that went to a Memorial feeder grade school.  I am pretty sure I saw him running around at those games in Blue.  He knows them and the history.

I don't think our kids or coaches talk about old history in an effort for motivation.  We know who we are this year and we know who you are this year....that's all the motivation needed.

I agree. All that stuff we discuss and argue about doesn't mean much of anything to the coaches and kids. Both sides just want to win and advance. Should be a good game.
