No Gale Sayers?

Sayers was as good as anyone who ever carried the ball.  Injuries cut his career short, and that was a shame.

Who does Sayers replace of the 4?  He only played 6 seasons due to injury.

Ditka. He only played 5 seasons.

Youre forgetting his best season.  1985

One of the most talented teams in NFL history with a legend D coordinator.  Ditka is great...but not sure he replaces Sayers on the greatest Bears of all time.

What's sad, as a Bears fan, is that you guys are debating who should be on the Mt. Rushmore, and none of those guys have played for the Bears in 50 years. I'd like to know if any other fan base has guys on their Rushmore who haven't played in as long????

Probably the Cowgirls 😂

Landry, Staubach, White, Dorsett/Smith

Smith is questionable due to his being part of the Jerry Jones era. Just sayin’

If you are going players only, its cut and dried :

Sid Luckman

Dick Butkus

Gale Sayers

Walter Payton

If you add in coaches,

George Halas, Walter Payton, Dick Butkus, Sid Luckman

The Bears won 4 NFL championship in 11 years with Luckman at QB.  he simply cannot be left off the list.

Luckman only threw for more than 2000 yds twice and is the all time Bear's leader with interceptions thrown.......still holds that record. (132)

Different era.  His 4 championships dwarf any others team achievements.

You cant expect a 1930 Ford to outrun a 2010 Ford.  Totally different technology.  But they are both Fords, and there is only one mountain.

He didn't do it on his own....and because the NFL was so very different and didn't depend on the QB nearly as much as today, I struggle with your rationale.  Heck, if you go back and look at his history, most seasons he shared the starting duties.  He did win the MVP one of his years, and did go into the HOF in 1965, so I can see where you make the argument.

I agree that timeframe was different than today....but he much has tossed it around a little to be the all-time Bears leader in interceptions thrown.

Bottom line, championships outweigh personal stats.  Terry Bradshaw will never be known for his TDs thrown or total yards or his low INT rate.  He is still on TV today for one reason.

He won 4 Super Bowls in 6 years

Have you seen Fran Tarkenton on TV lately?

Maybe at 3AM selling insurance.

Case closed.

The Browns? Ozzie Newsome might be the youngest guy in their group.

Despite the overwhelming love he received from Bears fans, Id nominate Mike Singletary as the most overrated Bear of all time.  John Madden created the Singletary Myth, when he called out Singletary's crazy eyes.  Thats all anybody ever focused on.  Both of Singletary's outside linebackers were better athletes and better players. Wilbur Marshall and Otis Wilson made it easy for Singletary to pile up big stats by funneling everything to him.  Singletary would have never lasted if had to play on the outside.

This is just crazy talk....well of course the OLB's were better athletes.....that is called good coaching. Put the better athletes outside. But to say he was underrated is just silly. I will say, he was better than Butkus. Spend some time learning about Singletary. He understood the entire defense. He was a coach on the field. He was the heart of that defense. He was tough taking on blocks, including double teams. While he was undersized, he was powerful and hit as hard as anyone on that defense.
I would add the most overrated......Urlacher.
