They were broke before that. It’s been a pattern for sometime. In four of their losses last year they blew the lead late. The Cleveland loss was the first one. Even in the Chicago game they won, they blew the lead and were just one play away from losing that one. They even blew a decent lead in the game they tied with the Cowboys. All that said, that playoff game may loom as a large cloud over this season. A coach only has a short window to succeed before losing the locker room.

Wow, already at the mid-point of the season. This week I'll be interested to see: (1) how MD bounces back against Jasper; (2) whether Boonville can stay competitive against Castle after just squeaking by Central; and (3) how Harrison looks as it seems they may be making some positive strides.

Wabash River Conference Week 5

Covington @ South Vermillion - The Mildcats win by as much as they want. I'm hearing their qb is the real deal in the running game. Have not seen him in person yet. I don't see Covington's problems being fixed anytime soon. Lowish numbers all across the board. When will they realize small 1a programs cannot have three fall sports for the boys. FC @ Attica - I have also heard the Ramblers are low on numbers. That will not matter because they will play hard the whole time. Not sure if their problems will leave anytime soon either. Heard they had to cancel the junior high season due to numbers. Hopefully Dean can get some more kids soon. North Vermillion @ RP - I love what Crum is doing at NV. This time next year this group will be clicking and scoring a lot of points. Hinchee is the second best thrower. Man he throws a good ball. Up front won't be able to hang with those Panthers. The Panthers will not be tested until at least semi state. Too big and too strong and too fast. RP 63 NV 6 Parke Heritage @ Seeger - Won't be as close as some of you may think. Seeger is much better than the Wolves. The qb will throw all over them and #2 will have a big game receiving. Pats take this one 35-14 -

Covington @ SV - With five games left, SV needs to pick up a couple wins to get to .500 before season's end. Anything less has to be a disappointment for the Wildcats. Looking forward, I don't think they beat RP or Seeger and unless they draw WV in their sectional, it won't look good in most matchups as that sectional is loaded. I don't see them having much issue with a depleted Covington this week. SV - 49 Cov - 13 FC @ Attica - As long as Willoughby and Batchelor are touching the ball as many times as possible, I think FC has a shot most weeks against the rest of their schedule. This week will be the same. FC 55 Attica 6 NV @ RP - Got to see RP in person on Friday. They aren't super fancy at all, but #17 and their OL and DL are studs. Seeger fought well and played hard but were simply outmanned. I don't see RP or Seeger losing a game the rest of the regular season. Seeger's passing game is easily the top in the conference. RP 55 NV 12 PH @ Seeger - This will be for 2nd place in the conference. I'll take Seeger, but only IF they can find a way to run the ball a little better than they did against RP. RP was able to run 3 and 4 man fronts and sit guys in passing lanes to slow down the Patriots passing attack. PH is much more balanced this year, which could create issues for Seeger run defense. I'll take Seeger 32 PH 28 -

NJSP @ Culver- Tough string of games coming up for Culver. Next chance won't be until week 9. 56-0 NM @ Pioneer- Curious to see if NM will be as chippy this week as they were with Judson. 42-6 SCUM @ Caston- Caston wins 55-7. Think they end the season 7-2 Triton @ Winamac- Closest game of the week but Winamac still wins easy. Warrios 34-14

Crawford County (+46) @ Mitchell (-46) => This means Mitchell is favored by 46 points. Tecumseh (-62) @ Perry Central (+62) => This means Tecumseh is favored by 62 points. Covington @ SV - SV by as much as they want. I went to the FC / Covington game last week. Was the Covington qb that much of a difference maker? I thought the game would've been more competitive or is FC that much better? FC does play a competitive first three games. SV played NV close in the first half but took over in the second. Look for this week to be all SV all four quarters. Another big week running the ball for the Wildcats qb. SV 45 Covington 8 FC @ Attica - The Mustangs surprised me with a lot of things Friday. They played at a fast pace on offense and scored almost every time they touched the ball. The defense looked pretty good too. The only points they gave up was the jv running back coming in and Covington's starters stripped him for a TD. FC wins big again against a struggling Attica team. I'm hearing numbers are really low right now at Attica. I would have if they or any WRC couldn't have enough to play. Rumor is they only have 14 kids on the sideline last Friday. The qb and the Payne kid are tough. Dean will keep them fighting until the end. FC 54-6 NV @ RP - There used to be some bad blood between these two teams but I think that's in the past. The Panthers will get up early and pull their starters. They have done this the last two weeks and it's made those games look a little closer than they really were. When will the Panthers be tested? I don't know if they will be until late November. Panthers 63-12 PH @ Seeger - Game of the Week - Two different styles of offense will battle it out but the defenses are very similar. I think both defenses play fast and tough. Both beat Attica fairly similar as well. I do think PH is slightly better defensively. Salts will throw and run the ball 20 plus times this game and will keep them it in. Game will come down to the last couple of possessions and I'm going to with the Wolves they start 4-1 since Moore in 2020. This will set up a classic Parke county championship in a couple weeks for #1 in the conference as well. Wolves 35-30 -

Covington @ SV- Covington is struggling.. i heard there running back is out but not sure how big of a factor that plays. The Falcons played the Cats a lot closer than I thought it would be. Miller is going to get another conference win under his belt. I'll take the Jr Visors by two scores. FC @ Attica- Congrats to Coach Earl and staff on their first win, very well deserved. Does anyone know when Foxworthy will be back? They won't need him this week but there are some more winnable games on the schedule for the Mustangs when they get him back. Hats off to Attica, they are doing what they can. I'll take the Earl's by 3 scores. North Vermillion @ RP- North Vermillion put up a fight against SV, it looked like they moved the ball well on them. I think Crum has things going in the right direction he just doesn't have enough dudes yet. Hinche is going to be good, he throws the ball well and is a big running QB. I thought the Pats would put up a little bit more of a fight against the Panthers. Are the Panthers going to running clock everyone in the WRC? Tenderloins JV plays the second half. The Woofs @ Seeger- The woofs have proven some points and have won some games. I think this game is the game for second place in the conference. I think Seeger is going to avenge their loss from last week and take it out on the 2nd best team in Parke County. Seeger is good, Salts throws the ball well and they have some really good athletes on the edge. I will say the Pats are going to win out their conference schedule. I'll take Seeger by two scores. -
