The point spreads announced is a reflection of what the gamblers think the betting public thinks. The perception is that OSU is significantly better. Therefore, the point spreads announced is high because they need to give a lot of points to attract bettors to the Notre Dame side of the bet. Remember, for the gambling houses, the ideal is exactly the same amount of money on each side of the bet. So, if there is a “stigma,” it’s reflected in the point spreads announced for that reason.1 point

I do not. Herbstreit shows his bias. I like the guy, but he's not smart enough to hide it.1 point

Scenario in Coach Sparty World You are coaching North Newton Spartans, 2023, you show up to August practice with 17 guys on the roster, its time for your 1st team session and you and your staff want finally reps in contact team session, thud, or otherwhise, Johnny did not come to any of Coach Sparty's off season workouts, but he did show up day 1 with is physical and all his paperwork. Johnny goes through the practice and does all the running and all the Coach Sparty individual drill work as assigned by coaches, so its time to get in there as a "Scout" team member, yet per your response, you would go tell that kid to go to the sidelines. I believe I have outline that philosophy correctly, if not what am I missing? Or better yet, said player can allow you 12 players to play a JV game ( yes I have coached JV games with 12, 13, 14 guys before) you go to the game, he is the only kid who did not get a snap in all game, because you know, non mandatory work outs that were missed. I am sure the rest of the team, parents admins would support you in this scenario to prove your point and I am sure that will equate in postiive experience for Coach Sparty team in the future off season workouts. This might be a bigger challenge for the Crown Point bus driver than for their team.1 point

Keep in mind that the point spreads announced by the gamblers have only a loose connection to projected results. The point spread announced by the gamblers has two functions: To attract the maximum amount of money bet on the game, and To have the wagers equal on both sides of the bet, so as to minimize the risk to “the house.”1 point

No disagreement...I thought that was quite the spread. Not taking anything away from the Buckeyes last night, but thought Texas coaching did them in. 1) end of the first half - why in the world did the DC send the house with 20 some seconds left? No way was OSU going to throw the ball way downfield and risk a pick. They either run out the clock or set up a screen....which they did. Texas sent so many, the OSU lineman ran 20 yds down the field before they found someone to block...and its was nothing by secondary. Just ridiculous in that situation to sell out defensively. (IMO) 2) On the 1 yd line - lineup in the shotgun (never understand why the ball is hiked 4-5 yds deep taking away the advantage) and then run a toss sweep against a strong, super fast, excellent tackling team? No chance. Lose another 3 yards and now down at the 8 or 9. Just ridiculous...and we know what happened next. Texas gift wrapped 14 points for OSU.....and that was the difference in the game. I'm not saying Texas would have won and OSU looked stronger throughout the game. But who knows if they don't give up those 2 killer plays?1 point

Your explanation that a coach was a teacher in the district? I understood that and did not ask for clarification. It ended up with 3 State Championships for the school and numerous victories and accomplishments for the football team and their Hall of Fame Coach. Otherwise, Sheridan may have ended up with a teacher just looking for some extra pay as a football coach.1 point

If you are referencing the DPI on the Kiser interception, then 100% agree. That call was awful.1 point

Football is a non cut sport Off season workouts are not mandatory, HOWEVER, proccess of elimination happens when you as an athlete choose to not participate in off season workouts (if not in a winter/spring sport) , others will pass you right on by1 point

Well that's just an ignorant comment. Coach Smock is a good coach. He just came off a 9-3 season. Which only lost to Guerin (by 4), Danville and Huntington North in OT. I doubt he was worried about a "tougher row to hoe" when he made that decision.1 point

This just in: Lebanon coach steps down after 8 seasons: https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/high-school/2025/01/07/lebanon-has-ihsaa-football-coach-opening-after-jeff-smock-steps-down-indiana-high-school/77517238007/?tbref=hp Guess Mr. Smock realized the Tigers will now have a tougher row to hoe after the 5 smaller schools have left the Sagamore. No more Crawfordsville's, Frankfort's, and North Montgomery's to beat up on.1 point
