  1. Pretty good Irish representation on both sides of the ball. BTW, I received good news from my cardiologist today. It seems some tests I've had to endure have paid off and I'm relatively heart healthy for a person of my age. I guess God isn't ready for me yet.

  2. I am not sure if the Commanders will beat the Eagles this weekend, but take a moment to read this article on Jayden Daniels....special young man. In to work at 5am every day. Love how they use technology (virtual reality) in his preparation before anyone else shows up. I read in another article that he brought this technology from LSU and pushed Washington to use it. In that other article, talks how he simulates the game plan at 2X the speed...because then it really slows down everything on Sunday. In the article below, Zach Ertz compares him to Andrew Luck....which is a high compliment. When one combines talent, work ethic, preparation, drive to succeed, love of team, etc....they are bound for great things. Hard to not to be a fan of this young man. Washington hit the jackpot!! https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43509748/washington-commanders-knew-jayden-daniels-star-nfl-playoffs (below is an excerpt from the article) DANIELS ARRIVES AT the Commanders' facility between 5 and 5:30 a.m. every Wednesday through Friday during the season to begin working on the game plan for the upcoming opponent. Daniels spends around 30 minutes watching film, sometimes alone in the quarterbacks meeting room and other times on his iPad while soaking in the hot tub. Then, around 6 a.m., Daniels, Kingsbury and quarterbacks coach Tavita Pritchard head over to the practice bubble to walk through the approximately 60 to 70 plays on the game plan list for that week. "I mean, 6 a.m. is early for a younger cat," Kingsbury said, "[Daniels] wants to be there. That's the thing I appreciate. I've never once felt that energy [from him] like, 'Oh, here we go again.' It's like, 'Let's go!' And that to me is the most impressive thing I've seen so far is just the want to be great and the competitive stamina to be ... always open to learning." Indeed, Daniels does preparation with Washington's virtual reality technology -- something he started his last year at LSU -- and work on the headset either before or after practice every day. But Kingsbury said, "He likes to be out there doing it, seeing it." "The best lesson in life is failure," Daniels said of the extra reps the morning walk-throughs afford him. "So, I get to fail in those types of situations and move forward. So, by the time game time comes, I'm not thinking about [it], just going out there and playing." To simulate game situations, Kingsbury calls in the plays with his phone, then runs routes. Daniels, wearing a helmet, gets the playcall through his AirPods before receiving the snap from Pritchard. Before the snap, Kingsbury tells Daniels what coverage he should expect and reminds him about his drops and reads. The goal, they say, is to paint a mental picture so Daniels can visualize what it would look like in a game. Kingsbury is often the primary receiver. Sometimes he'll say he's covered so Daniels has to find his next read. The three men go over various in-game scenarios: 30 seconds left, need a touchdown, red zone work. They'll call out one-word plays that have multiple options and a specific snap count -- a two-word play, Taylor Swift, resulted in a touchdown pass to rookie Ben Sinnott earlier this year. Kingsbury and Pritchard said Daniels rarely needs a reminder of his responsibility on a given play. "He's had this material for less than 12 hours," Pritchard said. "He's really in tune with where we are already." Daniels receives the game plan from the staff around 6 p.m. Tuesday, studies it for 90 minutes and often draws out the plays in a notebook. "When I can get here in the morning, I'm able to go in there and kind of just walk through it and I'll visualize it, walk through this or the reads, footwork," he said, "and if I have any questions? Kliff and [Pritchard] are answering them right then and there." Daniels' meticulous game prep doesn't end in the bubble. He texts Kingsbury about plays he's seen in other games or watched on YouTube. Kingsbury likes that the plays he sends match Washington's concepts. On the morning of the season opener at Tampa Bay, Daniels asked Kingsbury for one more walk-through before heading to the stadium. So Kingsbury, Pritchard, assistant quarterbacks coach David Blough and quarterbacks Mariota and Jeff Driskel headed to a ballroom for one final round of mental reps. This scene has repeated itself every game-day morning since -- a routine Kingsbury said he's never seen before but helps explain what he's seen from Daniels' way of processing all along. "His football knowledge is beyond what I think any rookie quarterback anybody could ever possibly expect it to be," Kingsbury said. "He'll bring up things and I'm like, 'Yeah, I didn't even think about that, but it's a valid point.' He'll make corrections on plays that I've designed, I'll f--- him up and he'll be like, 'No, no coach, you were on this side when we were doing our walk-through.' 'Really? Yeah. OK. You're right.'" And a key part of that knowledge is homed in the bubble, ending around two and a half hours before the first team meeting of the day. "All I know," one assistant coach said, "is that when I get here they're coming out of the bubble."

  3. Thanks but I can’t take credit for it. The staff all wore visors at North Putnams and took them to South Vermilions.

  4. https://www.wane.com/top-stories/lawsuit-luers-administrators-turned-blind-eyes-to-child-porn-scheme-failed-to-protect-students/ According to the article at least one member of the Luers football team was involved with this crime. Shameful.

  6. My dad grew up in Logan Square. I can still remember riding my bike around the neighborhood as a kid when visiting my grandparents. I think it's gentrified into a hipster neighborhood. Somewhere around 31st Street is the area of the old Michael Reese Hospital and that has turned into a potential landing spot for a "lakefront" stadium since the South Lot is looking like a no go. IDK. I listened to Kevin Warren on ESPN Chicago yesterday and they really pressed him about Arlington Heights. He definately made it clear Arlington Heights is still in play. Like you said Makes so much sense. Own your own stadium and build an entertainment district around it. Plus, good commuter access with a Metra Line that runs through the property and a highway to the west. I've only been to 1 Bears game at Soldier Field and was fortunate enough to have a parking pass in the underground Museum Campus lot which had an elevator that went up to our Suite level. I've heard horror stories of how hard it is to walk to Soldier if you're not a lot right next to the stadium. I hear walking over from the South Loop is also hurrendous due to having to navigate to one of the bridgest that crosses over the CTA lines.

  7. That went off the rails fast. I skipped most of the conversation. Back to the original question. Swim clubs don't have their own pools. They rent from existing facilities. Many of the clubs in Indiana work with the local HS. I'm not sure if there is a financial relationship involved (i.e. the clubs pay rent), but I imagine there is. It's very common for the high school coach to also be the club coach. Some of the assistants will be the same as well, but the club likely has several more. The practices and events however are kept separate. For the HS kids, if there is a moratorium week, they will still have swim practice, but the HS coaches won't be involved. My kids were lifeguards, and they were usually paid by the club or the high school depending on which entity was using the pool. If other organizations rented the pool (i.e. scuba diving training, water polo, swim lessons), then the lifeguard was paid by the high school. So the swim club does have a different relationship than those other entities. I believe some HSs also rent out their pool to smaller HSs who don't have their own pool. For example, Chatard may rent out North Central's pools for practice. The high school has a vested interest in supporting the swim club as that is their feeder system. If they don't have the capacity to host all the practices and events for the club, they will either have to limit the number of swimmers in the club. It appears the existing pool did not have capacity to host all of those so they will keep the existing pool to help with that size. Schools truly are community facilities used for a lot more things than just school. Our officials associations have our meetings at schools around the state. I know there was a regional middle school tournament in December at Noblesville HS. They hosted teams from around the Midwest who qualified for a national tournament in Florida.

  8. Welp another game that was a microcosm of the Woodson tenure . Any little shred of hope for season stability was washed away last night in the 2nd half in Evanston with a flurry of 3’s from the Wildcats . Woodson now 0-5 vs Collins Indiana returns home this weekend to play Maryland. The risk of a toxic environment at an all time high . Something has to be said or done by Scott Dolson before the game . Otherwise the environment that will unfold if IU doesn’t completely dominate the game risks permanent damage to the imagine of the program for potential future coaching candidates/ players if that isn’t already the case . I don’t not think / expect Woodson to be fired during the season . As I don’t think there is anyone of IUs bench that I would wanna watch coach this team anyway. Rosemond was suppose to bring in a pipeline of southern talent ? Carlyle and Banks ? Yeah that’s worked out well . I’m not sure what Hunter does besides get us in the finals for recruits that choose other programs. Walsh seems like a nice enough guy and decent recruiter but it’s the Xs and Os part IU is lacking . And Cheaney ? Well just not experienced enough for my taste . Also don’t want to get into an OSU situation if they were to get on a run feeling like you have to hire the interim . the common sense approach would be to issue a statement saying Woodson is “retiring” at the end of the season . Sit him down and say look you have x amount of games left coach your ass off maybe sneak into the tourney , try to enjoy it and have fun and ride off into the sunset you are 65 years old you don’t need this stress. And we don’t want to have to fire a program legend . Think of the program Mike . Woodson should pick up the phone and thank TJD and JHS otherwise his tenure my have mirrored his buddy Kenny Paynes at U of L . As far as coaching candidates no real point in discussing all wishful thinking and waste of time and energy. I will say I’ve never understood the opposition to Alford….. 700 wins 20 seasons of 20 or more wins . Multiple sweet 16s with multiple programs. I’ll keep watching out of sole curiosity for what happens . Talk to you all in March for Search Season .

  9. This is a good assessment on the pulse of the fan base. Ground and pound is a thing of the past and an offensive evolution needed to happen. Was it a determining factor in the hire like asked in a previous comment, don't know. If we were going to be able to hang with the SIAC teams, we needed to move towards more passing and less running the ball. Now the talent may not have been on the teams in the past to move more towards a spread, as I believe Lewis tried in his first season but that was quickly scrapped. You are also correct that the infrastructure is there to be very successful and at least compete for yearly sectionals and go on deep runs periodically. The new football facility is beautiful and very well done. Been several years since I have been in the weight room since my playing days, but it was very well done and had all of the equipment needed. I am sure things have been added / updated since then. It will be interesting what Coach can do. Was his North Central record a product of their schedule or did they just not have the talent? Or will we get more of the results from his Illinois time. If he has that type of success within a 4 year stretch, he'll have all the community support he needs and fans will be happy.

  12. I'm hearing Johnson will be around the 7th highest paid coach in the league. Not sure about accuracy. Regardless, the McCaskey's have never opened up the pocket book like this before. I finally listed to the presser. I really liked his comment about the playbook. He said he won't be dropping Detroit's playbook on the table and saying let's go. He said he'll be stripping the playbook down to the studs and rebuilding it around what works for CW. One of Waldron's biggest flaws was not developing a playbook around CW and forcing CW to embrace Waldron's playbook, which a lot of people said was too complicated for a rookie QB.
