why? there are some years where you can speculate some about a few of the larger class champions (mainly 4/5 being able to compete in a one off with the champion of 6a) unless ur putting all classes together for a gigantic tournament to find out who the real champion is i don't see the point in making one team of high schoolers state champions and everyone else class champions based on where they grew up

merriville doesnt need 3500 kids, they already have 105 future hall of famers on the roster

What problem are you trying to solve here? Is Lutheran walking around claiming they’d take down Ben Davis? Id assume all reasonable people can make a distinction between being the best in the state among peers. If your goal is semantics you need to add ‘high school’ to your state champion tag, otherwise Notre Dame might end up having a beef with Ben Davis.

Great perspective here. Each class is "weighed" based on their enrollment. Instead of playing the "what if" game that @BTF mentions, lets celebrate accomplishments. To get to a state championship in each class is a feat, so diminishing the accomplishments of a 1A school over a 6A school doesn't accomplish much.

In every school below 4A this is likely fact. Carmel has theirs made by skilled craftsmen from Italy.

Maybe we can start a grass-roots movement in all sports-- the school that wins the highest class tournament is the STATE CHAMPION...the school that wins all of the smaller class tournaments are CLASS CHAMPIONS.

I liken this to people wanting a national football tournament, because HS kids need to be playing an NFL length season I guess. The goal of every HS team is to win a state championship. They’ve done that when they won their class, there’s nothing more to play for. The goal has been achieved. Now we’re going to have another six team bracket so a couple of over top idiot dads can have bragging rights? I’m sure you guys will want to seed it as well, so we’d have CG v Tiny School that no one from CG has ever heard of. What the hell would entice Tiny school that no one from CG has ever heard to even want to play this game? It’s stupid.

A lot of his coaching was in Florida and Louisiana but while in Evansville he coached at Harrison. Coach gets fired and is passed over for the next head coach for the coach there now. Brings high energy and will get the kids behind him.

Why would anyone from Carmel, Ben Davis, Warren Central, or Center Grove complain? They win all the championships. Three of them happen to be the three largest schools in the state. I mean, the three largest schools owning most of the state championships isn't just coincidence. I'd say that at least half the teams in 6A have a legitimate gripe. Is what it is.......6A has been and always will be an unlevel playing field.

I’ve found the people that complain about such things don’t come from the good programs fan bases, they come from big school fans who are annoyed they routinely get knocked out of the tourney early while smaller schools get to make deeper runs. What they really often want is the chance to beat up some schools 1/4 of their size and make the third round of an all in tourney and thump their chests about coming in 124th in the state, rather than 17th in their class.

I would also add that it would be a disservice to the 6A champion to label them as such. They'd get the reputation as the kid wrestling heavyweight beating down the kid wrestling at 135, then thumping his chest claiming he's the best. In it's current format, in most cases, a program can hold it's head high knowing they are the best among other schools with resources similar to their own. I could sit here all day and say "what if" Adams Central had 3000 kids. "What if" Merrillville had 3500 kids. In the meantime, let's just not diminish what the other schools accomplished in their weight class.

True, but you'd have to put an asterisk next to the 6A champion stating.........*We're only the best because of the unfair amount of resources we have compared to our smaller competitors.
