webcast who had good who was bad
tango replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I really enjoyed the Mooresville livestream coverage when they played Evansville Central in Regional. They had 2 students (one ... was .... a ... girl ... ) and they both did a fantastic job. I also agree that the SEI Local coverage is A+. -
Has Indiana Become a Football State?

I'm not much of a basketball fan, but I have noticed our basketball team is a lot better when it is full of football players.... -
Has Indiana Become a Football State?

I thought progress was electricity, school consolidation, church remodeling, second farm tractors.... -
How is this allowed? Seems like a recruiting tool.

They don't get many players from down here. -
I would agree that is the most stable of the 5 at this point, but that drive hasn't gotten any shorter. I think that has been part of the reason Central has improved in recent years - kids stopped at Central instead of going all the up to North.
-
No idea, but Mater Dei and Memorial should both be pretty strong next year. And both have coaches who've been there for a long time.

Of course it's a recruiting tool, but there's nothing wrong with having an open camp. The key is that it isn't an undue influence tool.... -

Any word on the transfer from out of state?
-
Our Maxpreps stats are accurate. Pence will graduate, so the big question is who will take his place. Memorial is rarely going to have a RB with a lot of carries and/or yardage totals. It just isn't our offense. Our success depends on spreading the field and the workload. Next season we'll return 5 WRs who had at least 20 catches and 2 RBs who had 80+ carries, plus the entire OL. Just gotta find that QB.... And stupid...

2020 Coaches of the Year
tango replied to 1st_and_10's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Congrats to Ben "the accounting Professor" Johnson from 4A Reitz Memorial. His finest work IMO was defensive game plans that held two very good teams, Mt. Vernon Fortville and East Noble, to 3 points each in the semi-state and state title games during the 2019 tournament. He has been instrumental in the Tigers 2 state title wins. Plus, he can do your income taxes... -
I don't disagree with your point at all, but in 2019 our 1 and only "dude" was Brock Combs. We beat some darn good teams (Mooresville, MV Fortville & East Noble) on our way to a 4A title with a bunch of mostly undersized, regular guys who played very well as a unit.

I heard of a transfer in from out of state. Parents are moving to Evansville. I'm usually wrong, so who knows.... I never heard this rumor. I wish I had, it would have made for some fun here on the GID. Same here, but I suspect he'll stay put.

I hear that may change after Christmas.

State Finals Endzone Cameras
tango replied to Tanka Jahari's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Our guy "Big Cat" is a veteran but he always has to be in the discussion when it comes to all-state end-zone videographers. He's so good we've had to assign him personal protection to keep the middle schoolers and 70/80's letter jacket crews at Gibson Southern & Castle from harassing him during road games. He's a legend. Just don't give him chili at a tailgate or all bets are off. -
I wouldn't go that far, but there is no question fewer people are claiming organized religion now. The Church has to find ways to attract and retain young people, but that is a topic for a whole other discussion outside of the GID. And if we could solve that problem and write a book.... Yes, we do. As a diocese I think we are getting better at inclusion, but still have a long way to go. That is certainly an area of potential enrollment growth.

@hhpatriot4. Evansville Christian started a high school a couple of years ago, so Day School is not the only non-Catholic HS. And there is zero official talk of the Evansville diocese starting (or restarting) a third high school in Evansville. Mater Dei and Memorial are both fighting for their lives as enrollment has remained stagnant or dropped. Evansville couldn’t support 3 40 years ago when parishes and feeder schools were full, no way we could support 3 now when feeders are no where near capacity. The diocese can’t just close a school and build a new one 5 miles away like EVSC did with North.
