  1. Probably a lot. Jackson is pretty legit and probably a welcome sight to TN.
  2. What I wanna know which is better 3-4 or 4-3 defense? Lots of variance to these but assuming you have all the talent you could ever dream of to run either…which one does better?
  3. Agreed. You won’t be able to run your way out of 3rd and long very often and passing on 3rd and 1 is an unnecessary risk if you’re only looking to get a fresh set of downs. absolutely. I mean….if every play is run exactly as it’s drawn up to be, it’s a touchdown
  4. I would like to add that the best Heritage Hills teams (ya know the team that is King when it comes to running the wishbone)….I would argue that their best teams have been when they had a QB who could make the throws and know how to make the right reads when they did choose to run. lesser known thing…Jay cutler threw it for like 2500 yards in the wishbone when he was at Heritage Hills some 20 years ago…some of the other great HH teams did the same….they won state on a passing play too lol. I also think about some of the West Lafayette teams and Memorial as of recently. Shoot even Chatard was passing the ball more a few years ago (they might still be idk) this isn’t about any specific team though. This is just about football like the OP intended for this thread. and I’ll argue that passing is the more efficient option every day of the week see my comments above. The Titans might not have but other teams sure have and it’s how many teams these days are winning…and for good reason
  5. It’s lopsided from the running clock….but this isn’t about Gibson Southern anyways…that’s just the easiest example I know of to use outside of the NFL just the simple premise that passing the ball is more efficient the ball when all things are equal. Of course if you have Derrick Henry on your HS team and a freshman QB, you’re going to run the ball. It’s about efficiency
  6. 😂😂😂 this isn’t some moral dilemma of great importance like many political issues. you just rather get your way than see your favorite team be the most efficient with their time on offense. you’re not a martyr, you’re a blockade
  7. You poor thing. Miss me with that crap about caring about $6 because Karen didn’t enjoy seeing a team not run the ball for 3/4 yards 40 Times in a row
  8. Yes yes and yes you have to defend the pass….keeping your offense on the field longer just means you’re being less efficient with your time of possession. I don’t think you need to develop a QB a ton though…but some development is needed. on the side note…I would have loved to see what Montgomery would have done at Southridge if he played beyond his freshman year. He was going to be great no matter what sport he chose
  9. You live closer to Kentucky than the rest of us lol. Plus don’t you know? Nobody at Gibson Southern actually lives in gibson county…just ask everyone else, they will tell ya!
  10. I would like to point out that it’s more than just GS. I think it can be applied to most teams…you just need a QB who can make the throw…it can be 5 yards for all it matters or it could be a 40 yard deep ball…getting the ball to an athlete in space where they have to only beat 1-3 guys is just going to be more efficient. Like all things though it takes practice and discipline to get good at it
  11. What kind of offense does salem run again? Southridge would have been a fun matchup in terms of fan engagement and the rivalry aspect to it, but I’m kinda glad we don’t have to play them twice since they know us pretty well at this point. always interesting facing a new scheme though and seeing how things shake out. GS has faced many different offenses this year so maybe we have seen something similar to Salem or maybe they have a new twist for the defense
  12. I don’t know why you are trying to play the figure of wise older gentleman like you are inherently smarter than everyone but statistically you’re just wrong and it’s ignorant of you to continue to do so on this topic. There isn’t much of a correlation between time of possession and winning the game. just under 9 minutes to score 49 points. I can’t remember the last time GS won the time of possession battle. Honestly it’s more important for other teams because their goal is to keep the offense off the field more to limit the damage…but the passing game is efficient so the longer the offense is out there the less likely it is that they can comeback. it’s this way in the nfl with many of the top teams going 60/40 pass if not more….in college we seen it with burrow and LSU…even saban has commented saying that you have to pass in today’s game and most of college is catching on to this too….it’s becoming that way for HS. An appropriate comparison is to the advancements in tools/home building….30 years ago sub contractors laughed at the idea of setting up an air compressor and air hoses to use pneumatic staplers/nailers, citing there was a lot of setup work to get it going and thinking it’s less efficient….today you wouldn’t catch a construction company without one if there was a use because of how much more efficient it is once everything is in place…it’s less taxing on the body too…even the Amish use air compressors nowadays
  13. @foxbatwithout quoting the long thing in general I agree with your points…yes you still have the execute…the problem is…a bad passing offense is probably around 6/7 yards per attempt. While a good running offense is 6/7 yards an attempt. Maybe a little more but still….you can have a great defense still with a passing attack. without a doubt though, if you don’t have the personnel to pass effectively, a good coach will figure out a way to run the ball effectively…still need the guys…it’s just that if all things were equal in terms of personnel, passing is still more efficient.
  14. That’s misguided into today’s game…especially with how the new protections for receivers and the QB. Not to mention throwing the ball bypasses many of the defenders in play to make the tackle. Running the ball you have 11 helmets who can get to the ball and make a tackle…throwing the ball you have maybe 3 if the receiver is double teamed with safety help
  15. Looking at stats to reference what I’m talking about Gibson Southern has attempted 212 passes for 2724 yards…good for 12.8 yards per attempt…doesn’t even factor in DPI or Dholding or roughing the QB Gibson Southern has run the ball 215 times for 1698 yards…good for 7.9 per play…..the penalties in play are pretty much horse collar or holding…but nothing different that any person with the ball. now granted GS has Brady Allen but GS has done this for 10 years and that’s because it works. the goal is to move usually about 80 yards or less and score….do you want to take 10+ plays to do it or do you want to do it in 6/7?
  16. No because if you are only averaging 4 yards per a play you need a lot of plays to be successfully ran without error to capitalize. meanwhile if you play the pass you’re probably not throwing it more than 25 times a game and the yards per play significantly higher + the fact that there are a number of other defensive penalties available to be called which result in 1st downs. running the ball repeatedly is so inefficient, only ideal if you don’t have the personnel to execute on pass. It’s about maximizing opportunities. Running the ball just minimizes the number of bad outcomes…aka playing to not lose
  17. I don’t think running the wing T is the most effective even in high school. you don’t need to run the ball to play the pass when you get into the analytics of it all….not the most timely of comparisons but it’s basically why the chiefs don’t run the ball much…..why check it down or run the ball against a defense looking to stop it? Why not just take another shot at a big chunk play? the biggest benefit you get from running the ball is that the clock runs and it gets you closer to the end of the game…that’s about it…just milking the clock. To add…it’s not just the wing T….it’s just these run heavy offenses in general.
  18. Truthfully…I just want GS to win sectional 32. It’s a challenge every year and it’s been 6 years since GS has made it out of there. We all know the other teams for a potential playoff matchup after that, but winning the sectional has to be achieved first we all seen what happened with Jasper this last week with northview who was 7-1 now 8-1…Mt. Vernon was 8-1 and we took care of business…now we got 6-2 salem…if we manage that we likely face 9-2 Heritage Hills assuming they beat bosse. that’s a sectional path of 23-5 potentially. It’s tough sledding every week
  19. Ive been here since 2012 😏 2015 was warranted 2016 we were ranked #1 all year but lost our QB week 9. again, look at who is saying what. GS fans are confident sure, but we have been served too much humble pie that the people pounding the table for state or whatever are mostly outside of the GS fan base. shoot GS fans have been openly criticized this year because the approach of “one game at a time” is too soft for the likings of other fans lol
  20. Before you make drunk comments before bed maybe you should click to see who is making the comments about GS this year…(Hint: it’s the other teams fans who are the most bold)
  21. Thunder and Lightning….except we already have lightning and these two are thunder
  22. He might be but Scheller was more than a receiver for us. He was used as a RB/WR and was a phenomenal DB….2015 alone he had 8 ints. One of those things where he was so great at a lot of things that the stats don’t reflect just how great he was Wait until monday…I caved and I’m waiting for PayPal lol. You can mark it down to $720
  23. Thank you. I knew someone had the actual numbers out there
  24. Dang. Some pretty darn good football lined up next week
