  1. I'm confused by this....if (in our hypothetical, fairy tail secession of counties from IL to IN) counties leave IL for IN how would Indiana lose population? I had previously been told that this number is already six (3 per day)?...but that wasn't from North Meridian, it was from IFCA. And it was a few years back.
  2. Thats actually more than I would have guessed....thanks Coach Is there really ONE high school (Berwyn-Cicero) that has 7700+ students!?!
  3. Despite what the Indiana Legislature is looking at, my understanding from my Illinois friends is that this group of Illinois counties doesn't really want to secede and join another state like Indiana or Missouri. They want want to make Cook County/Chicago Metro something like its own district (i.e. Chicago D.C.) that has less political influence over the rest of the state. When they've explained it to me they use the example of Washington DC being geographically part of Maryland but politically separate (I realize that is a federal designation and not a state level thing). Most of those friends are in Chicago area and are about 50/50 for or against (and that does not fall along their "traditional" political beliefs. A few very "blue" people are for it, and a few "red" people are against it). I'm far from a legal scholar, but thats the vibe from people I know who have been watching this from inside Illinois for the last handful of years. How that works in actual reality I would have very little insight. From a purely "football" perspective, I'm not really on board adding a few hundred mostly smaller schools to our current tournament format. Those of you with more knowledge of Illinois football, if you exclude Chicago Metro (and I'll leave it to you to define that); how many schools in Illinois would fit in with the current size for 5A (Currently about 1500-2100)? How many for 6A (currently about 2100+)? I'm sure this is online somewhere but I have no energy to look for it😜
  4. I don't know how many times we've played "what if" on future conference changes....but I think there a at least a couple old threads on different conference changes that might happen in the next decade. I don't forsee CG and Carmel being independent forever....and could see a reshaping of current MIC, HCC, and those indy area independents, along with some of these growing schools (e.g. Whiteland). I know I've got an old post with what I thought could happen (at least what I thought at that time....you can't hold me to it now, STATE LAW!).
  5. While most people correctly associate Hall of Fame Coaches JIm Belden & Dick Dullaghan with their success at Carmel and Ben Davis in the MIC...did you know that both of them got a coaching start at a current HCC school? *If I recall the story from Coach Belden correctly, Coach Dullaghan would have been best described as a "part time/volunteer assistant"
  6. No real argument from a competitive standpoint....The only reason for putting them in the "bigs" is because they are 5A. NW/NR are 4A. For good, bad, or indifferent that was my thought process.
  7. IGNORE MY ABOVE POST BECAUSE I'M AN IDIOT AND FORGOT THE MINI-MEN!!! Sorry Dunlap! While it wouldn't directly address the "upgrade" issues....I would suggest a NIC/NLC realignment is long past due...especially given the performance discrepencies in the NLC and size discrepencies in the NIC The "Bigs". In a eight team conference, Penn, Elkhart, Warsaw, et al can schedule whatever size schools they wish. The ex-NLC schools can still scheudle non-cons against old rivals. Goshen & Adams have each other at least... Penn Elkhart Warsaw Concord Mishawaka New Prarie Adams Goshen EDIT: I forgot the Mini-Men😜 The "Not-So-Bigs". More balanced size wise...the ex-NLC teams can still schedule non-cons vs old rivals in the other conference. I'd argue this one is more competitive from top to almost the bottom (in a variety of sports). Northwood Northridge Plymouth Wawasee Marian St Joe Washington Riley Despite how easy it seems to split these schools up into two "new" versions (that IMHO make the situation better for pretty much all schools (except maybe Adams and Goshen)....I fully agree with Bob. Because of some of the schools involved, it will never happen.
  8. In September of 1900, Goshen High School lost to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 55-0
  9. "In the same Rule 1-5-3c(3), another new item was added to the illegal equipment listing. Any audio (microphone) or video (camera) device worn by a player during the game is not permitted. No player participating in the game is allowed to wear any device that would record or transmit audio or video. " Would this prevent a player on the sideline from putting on a headset to talk to a coach in the press box? In my opinion he isn't "wearing" it "during" the game...but my opinion isn't the one that matters.
  10. If its going to a landfill? Plastic compresses to almost nothing
  11. Valid point. My thought is at some point the trade off of that competition vs travel time might be part of the calculus for the Indy Metro teams. Especially the number of non-con games some metro teams have available. I know it may be more attractive for HCC/MIC* schools to play each other due to proximity....but thats not who everyone is picking up for non-con games...several out of state match ups amongst these teams. MIC schools have 3 or 4 (?) non con slots HCC schools have 2 Carmel, CG, Cathedral have more given current lack of membership Again, its something I'm curious about...not something I'm trying to claim is right or wrong.
  12. As a former "North" player....Glad to see more and more HCC/MIC* vs "True North" 6A non con games. I think this is an overall plus for Indiana football. Off the top of my head... CP vs Pike FWC vs HSE & CG Homestead vs Westfield & Noblesville (Carmel last year) Snider vs WC last two years but nothing this year? (I'm not including now 5A Warsaw - Playing WC) Why not similar scheduling from.... Penn: Played Cathedral (I know not MIC or HCC) multiple times recently but nothing this year? None of the out of state powers they have played recenlty either?? Elkhart???? I don't want to sound like I'm bashing here, but I am generally curious. Their schedules are full of 5A, 4A, and even 3A schools. In fact it looks like the only 6A games for either are each other. I know their conference limits them but is this the reason they are viewed as second tier to the first 4 programs? Would Brownsburg have preferred to play a Penn or Elkhart over Jeffersonville? Would Carmel have preffered to restart a Penn rivalry over Centerville (OH)? Would LC prefer to play up North as opposed to Edwardsville (Ill)? Cathedral has 3-4 out of state games per year, would they prefer an Indiana opponent? (Honestly don't know).
  13. Very controversial today....I know🤣
  14. Advice to current players: Your path to the MAC/FCS might first go through NAIA or D2 Your path to Pow5 might first go through MAC/FCS Overall advice, if playing on Sunday isn't feasible due to factors outside of your control (e.g. genetics)...maybe pick a school based upon the career options your degree might be able provide you...instead of worrying about NIL. All of this aside....Miami is getting a heck of a player.
  15. I think the days of Power 5 schools recruiting 4 star HS QB's is on the way out. Unless you are a 5 star oh-my God...I think most Pow5's will prefer to see college performance in MAC/FCS/etc before they scholarship 3 and 4 star kids directly from HS. Especially with the roster limitations coming up in addition to the free for all in the portal.
  16. I'm with you.....I remember it much more recently....I mean I'm old....but I'm not that old!🤣
  17. Wouldn't that decision be better left to the parents? BTW...its not a hypothetical, I know that family and thats exactly what they went through. "Johnny" also has 2 younger siblings that figured into that calculus. So it wasn't just about him, it was mainly about both parents being able to be around for all 3 kids, and not have one of them in the car or at work most of their waking hours. Some families are ok with one parent having a long commute and not being available for transporting to kids to activities or attending events. Good for them if that works! This familty wanted something different. And Good for them too! You don't want your kid to have to be at three schools in 4 years. Good for you! But the IHSAA or DOE having the ability to limit a kid to having to sit "regardless of the situation" is not something I'm on board with. And keep in mind, I'm talking about an entire family making an actual adress change each time.
  18. Didn't Mishawaka do this at one point in somewhat recent past?
  19. Moslty agree, except with how I read the part in bold.... Johnny's parents live in Greenwood. Summer before his sophomore year, Dad loses his job and gets a new one in Avon...family moves to Avon. Johnny's mom is an IU Health nurse, she had been working downtown at Methodist. At the end of his junior year, IU Health tells her she is now working two different offices in Fishers and Carmel....instead of her driving between Fishers & Avon half the time....family wants to split the distance for the parent commute and move to Carmel/Zville area. Should Johnny have to sit? In all instances they are changing legal residence.
  20. And anyone who know's Coach Barron is aware that the chances of that are NOT 0% 🤣
  21. Was coaching a game against Plymouth many years ago....this was one of those years that the rubber bracelets the guys wore were a point of emphasis. We kicked off to them, as they lined up for their first play from scrimmage....just as everyone came set there was a flag thrown....NOTHING had happened yet. I was standing next to the linesman on our side and made a comment out loud to the effect of "What the heck was that...nothing has happened yet?"...on his way out onto field linesman says over his shoulder "I'll tell you in a second, you won't beleive it." Apparently, before pregame Coach Barron had made a big deal to his guys about making sure they all were uniform legal, specifically mentioned the bracelets. During pregame one of their best players is out there with several of them on. So Coach Barron told the crew...."I want to you to flag that kid on the first play." (Which technically is a flag on Barron I believe? @Bobref?) They did so, and that kid never saw the field after that....and again, he was one of their better players. My favorite John Barron story.
  22. Gotch, I misread your previous post. My point was only that if you can verify actual address change "out of previous district", I've never heard of IHSAA turning that down...I wasn't making a statement about it being automatic or not (which is what you were doing 😜). I would assume it would take some really egregious evidence of undue influence.
  23. If there is a bonified change of address (that takes them outside the "sending" schools district)....I'm not sure the sign off matters. Outside of that, things can be dicey.
  24. I can't wait to see what topic is being discussed in this thead next August! 🍿
