I know he's not the most popular person on this board, but Tom Allen, when he was at IU, actually spoke out against the Big Ten's decision to start scheduling games on Fridays. Seems silly.

All perfectly reasonable predictions. I had a dream that Ben Davis scored 65 points in this game, but we all know how dreams go in reality sometimes. BD has not been 0-3 since 1983.

Fantastic win for Avon. Congratulations to Coach Gibson. As far as the game went, I thought the Giants had Avon rattled and reeling when that kickoff return happened. The Giants rallied again, but that kickoff return was the difference in the end. The two-point conversion call was a definite risk and the play call was excellent.

It should also be noted that Coach Brevard has assembled a laundry list of former Ben Davis players and assistants helping him/coaching with him at Pike. Pretty impressive. I am really happy for Pike. I just can't cheer for them this week.

I don't think quite yet, but a loss to Pike would be pretty devastating and the Red Devils are playing their best ball in ages. You are correct, sir!

Ben Davis made a lot of mistakes. Got down 14-0 and 21-7. They finally got the offense rolling in the fourth. Forced overtime only to lose on a well-designed two-point conversion. The offense is still struggling. Can't figure out why. Too many holds and hankies on the field, too. With the way Pike is playing....who knows? I think the Giants will figure it out at some point, but I clearly didn't expect seven-consecutive scoreless quarters on offense to start the year. Credit to Coach Gibson and Avon. They were the aggressors for most of the night(s).

I believe Taphorn also was at Speedway for a spell. Good person.

Cathedral was a completed TD pass from going up 31-0 on Ben Davis. Mark Zackery took that pass 100 yards the other way to the house, but that's my OH MY score, 24-6 Irish. I knew Cathedral was tough, but I didn't think the Giants would struggle like that to start out.

The front 7 is pretty young from an on-field play standpoint. Offensive and defensive line play was a real struggle Friday night from my perspective. Kind of disappointing, but Cathedral was really good on Friday.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but was there any way that Cathedral could buy that part of the Arlington property and put in a field that they would use?

Nice win for my good friend, Mike Kirschner, and all his Warriors. Snider will be there at the end up north. No one is going to score much on Warren this year.

I also appreciated how the Irish celebrated their victory. They were pure class. Credit to the school and their fans.

Ben Davis has not been thumped like that in a while. Cathedral is a really good football team with some very good size on both lines. They dominated the Giants up front and always called the right play all night. Kudos to Coach Peebles and the staff.

Agree. The coaches had a great game plan, and they stuck to it. Should have been 31-0, but Mark Zackery saved the Giants' bacon. Classic thumping. Credit to Cathedral for bringing the Giants back down to Earth a little. I think the loss may help them, and hopefully we'll see these two again in the Regional. All three phases performed well last night for the Irish. Congrats on finally ending that 15-game losing streak over the last 37 years to Ben Davis.

Just saw this. They cut off tickets at 6:00 pm when the gates open.

I would think that lighting issue from a couple of years ago that forced the postponement of the Chatard-Cathedral game was a factor. I'm not sure the Irish have been back there since. I know Ben Davis played them at Key Stadium at UIndy last year.

It's preseason. I don't read much into the polls for a couple of weeks.

Kyle also said in the article that he reserves the right to redo the predictions after Week 5.

Coach Mann said the schedule is no walk in the park this year for BD, and the Sectional is going to be even tougher with Avon and Pike improving. Pike has a ton of Ben Davis alums/former coaches now on staff, so Coach Brevard is trying to build something for sure. I think you're pretty spot on with your picks. No major disagreements except for including Carmel and Center Grove. LOL...just messing with you.
