  1. 1. I personally think a state finals appearance - win or lose - is something worth celebrating. 2. At least Roncalli is close to Lucas Oil 3. Shame on the IHSAA for not allowing parents and families of players somewhere to interact post game. I can’t speak to Andrean, Merrillville, Dwenger, etc. fans, but when Evansville schools play at Lucas - there is plenty of extended family, friends, from out of town. Some even live in the Indianapolis area. “Congrats on the great season Johnny. But your older sister/brother and aunt who live in Carmel won’t get to see you after the game. They at least get to watch in person for the first time, but they’re not driving back 2.5 hours to see you at the school gym afterwards.”
  2. I don’t see how the SA play was legal. 1st down - wide toss to the NM sideline. Player is tackled. Wing toss the ball to the umpire who places it down. Perhaps I don’t understand what ‘Ready for Play’ means. But as the umpire sets the ball, you can see the SA player 1 step off and sideline. Furthermore, two coaches are in the Restricted area at the snap.
  3. Remind me of the voting process. Teams nominate X players based on conference standings. Any player nominated is either voted to the team or ends up honorable mention. Is that correct? I think I like that process.
  4. Just watched this play. Pretty egregious call. Completely missed by the officiating crew.
  5. Not sure which, but it appears Merrillville or Andrean will have the longest drive to Lucas Oil. Given that it's 2+ hour drive and they are Central (losing an hour), will Andrean stay over the night before?
  6. Listening to the Bash. Nice of the Cascade fans to thank the announcers for all the extra motivation this week.
  7. Yes it was. Absolute mud bowl. By the end of the game both teams looked like they were wearing black jerseys. I think Luers led or it was tied at half. West Lafayette was just a beast that year. Karlaftis got all the press rightfully so, but they had athletes all over the field.
  8. Great season by Knox. But their really soft schedule is finally rearing its ugly head.
  9. Does that radio station stream? There used to be "where to listen/watch" thread on here during playoff time, but I guess the poster is no longer around or I just missed it. I did finally find a game recap on The Dearborn Register - which I think only posts/prints a few times a week. I like this quote from Coach Knigga. Perhaps it's my cynical nature, but coaches generally only mention officiating when it is/was a point of contention.
  10. I saw the headline come across my newsfeed. I'm glad it got moved to Paycor. But I did see that there were some unintended consequences. Mason HS, which is not one of the schools playing, but a neutral host, seems to be the big loser. Close to $10,000 worth of concessions had been purchased in anticipation of a 7,000 - 8,000 person crowd in attendance. Mason student groups - Band, Student Council, etc. was hoping to bring in several thousand dollars worth of profit to help fund their activities this year. I'm guessing they can't start selling them at Paycor, so they miss out. A minor thing, but just something I never considered.
  11. Are there any P/P's in the bottom 32? I would rather see 1A be the smallest 32, which might take alleviate some of the P/P issue. I feel like during the Lutheran, Providence, and Covenant runs, they were all near the top of 1A by size - which would fit them in 2A with only smallest 32. I'm not sure about LCC, but @foxbat probably knows. Overall I think SF has been positive. But I wonder if the Sheridan/Zachery run or the Pioneer/Kiser Mr. Football in 2018 happen if the current SF was in place.
  12. The Cascade - Lawrenceburg game is like Fight Club. I guess we don’t talk about it. Last Friday it was one of the few games not streamed. I couldn’t find a streaming radio link or even a reporter live Tweeting it. Even postgame coverage not much to find. Just crazy all around.
  13. If the entire state was on Central time (like it should be) - then a 2.5 hour drive on a Friday wouldn't be an issue. But losing the hour is a HUGE deal for students, fans, and parents that want to drive. That said - Saturday night game is a BIG deal for GS. You basically have given a great coaching staff two extra practices - Friday afternoon and Saturday morning before they get on the bus. If I were Cascade, I would have asked for a 12 noon CST kickoff on Saturday.
  14. I have pointed this out before. Both HH and GS potentially have to make 2.5 hour trips in successive weekends should they win Semi State. Gibson had to do it in 2021 and Memorial in 2017 as well. But if we’re adding rules, no team should get to host 4 of 5 tournament games at home. That would be my first change.
  15. HH had an easier road through sectional than GS. Not to open up a ‘pound for pound’ discussion, but I would argue Sectional 32 has been deeper than 24 the last few years. A 3A school has won 5 out of 6 tries. Memorial - 2019, 21, 22, & 23 Reitz - 2024 (no 3A team in sectional) Heritage Hills - 2025
  16. I don’t have much to add to the conversation. But I wanted to say North Daviess has a wonderful looking facility. I see it from I-69 and occasionally cut through to 57 for work. Not sure if anyone from there reads the board, just wanted to say it’s noticeable how well they take care of it.
  17. Marian (adj.) - of, or related to Mary. I would have to double-check, but I think she's pretty important, right?
  18. Chances for a Public school sweep tonight in 3A? Marian at Knox Luers at Mississinewa Guerin at Cascade Gibson Southern at Mater Dei
  19. I feel like the wording of this rule has changed in the last few years. The rule is no more than 4 in the backfield, correct? A team only has 10 on the field, with 6 on the line and 4 in the backfield. Legal. A team has 11 on the field. Only one team wideout is on the line, so 5 are in the backfield. Illegal formation. Is my understanding correct?
  20. Even more odd - Reitz was 5A when it was the largest class. So they have played Ben Davis, Center Grove, and Avon but never the Patriots. I remember watching Avon at the Reitz Bowl.
  21. They tried the bye during week 14 (SS for 1A-5A) in 2013-15. I guess they didn’t like it? Don’t know why it changed.
  22. It’s having 32 6A teams (5 weeks) vs 64 for other classes (6 weeks). Everyone gets to finish on Thanksgiving weekend. IIRC - First year of 6A, they started week 10 but then the state finalists had two weeks to prepare for final. (Bye semi-state weekend.) That was scrapped the following year.
  23. Videos on Facebook/ X have been circulating about the ending to this one. Alexandria attempted to kill the clock on 4th down, but QB threw it away with 4 seconds remaining. Eastbrook attempts the Cal-Stanford Band play and scores. But there is a hold on Eastbrook. Following the penalty the ball is marked ready for play with one untimed down. Hail Mary - TD. 2pt conversion good and EB wins in OT. Two questions 1. Can a game end on an offensive penalty? This caused the most confusion with the announcers I saw. Does the fact EB scored - and penalty had to be accepted - change things? 2. In hindsight, IF Alexandria’s QB runs around an extra 4 seconds but one of their OL holds or there is intentional grounding. Does that end the game?
  24. I agree it would be horribly inconsistent and tough to monitor. What would be easy to enforce would be breaking the huddle with 12. That should absolutely be a rule in HS.
  25. First criteria is non-host for the sectional or regional. This year the IHSAA has designated "Odd" sectional numbers as the regional tie-breaker. Then Semi-State, the lower number has tie breaker. Since Chatard is Sectional 22 and HH is 24, that means Chatard would lose a tie breaker to Yorktown (21 winner) but hold the tie-break against HH. Which is fitting, because @hhpatriot04 can tell you, the IHSAA always makes the Patriots play Chatard in Indy. They never play in Lincoln City.
