  1. I should have tagged you as well in my post for opinions on how Arlington looked. I apologize, thank you for commenting on it though much appreciated.
  2. Arlington looked to be in great condition from what I could tell watching the Cathedral vs Chatard game played there a few games back. @Lysander and @PHJIrish would be better to elaborate.
  3. Congrats to young Mr Spegal on all his achievements. The impressive thing to me is the complete contrasts in offense Spegal plays in compared to Law! The Sheridan offense was completely different from the spread Spegal plays in. Law touched the ball A LOT! Spegal gets his fair share of carries, but there are other weapons that see the ball several times throughout the game. So it is very impressive that Spegal is approaching this milestone with I woould guess not as many touches as Law!
  4. BTW CaptainHook, the youngster is looking very good. Very enjoyable to watch him play! I'm sure he makes you very proud, I hope he is getting some looks and wants to continue playing football at the next level. Best of luck to the Dragons and your boy!
  5. Coach Bill Peebles was doing well at Lawrence Central also, not to the level of success Coach Jayson West had but Peebles was only there for 2 seasons. He tool them to 6-5 and 6-4 his only 2 seasons there, but that was coming off of 3 dreadful seasons of 3-7, 4-7, and 3-7 prior to his arrival. They were at least very competitive in the MIC under Peebles, right now they are not competitive. It is interesting how LC went 15-0 in 2012 under Coach West and after he left the following year they went 3-7 in 2013. Was that a Senior heavy team in 2012, were there transfers out after Coach West left? Honest question.
  6. Great post! I didn't want to seem like I was singling out Avon either. This holds true for just about any High School across the State and in other States. Avon was talked about in earlier threads so I used them as an example. There are also gifted athletes at High Schools not playing football because they don't have the grades to play or have got in with the wrong crowd. There are multiple reasons that could be attributed, ultimately though the Coaches at High Schools are perfectly happy having the kids that do want to play. I might also add since I am on the subject of Avon. Coach Bless is one of my favorite Head Coaches, great coach and great person. I wish him and the Orioles all the best in the rest of their season and would love to see them get to the State Title game!
  7. DT are you informing the rest of the GID of something? Multiple Personalities? Or do you own a car from the Suburban Auto Group? https://youtu.be/Rx6WB5YJia8
  8. I fail to see the comparison of this to @Footballking16 statement. New Pal enrollment 1,175 Roster 65 / Cathedral enrollment 1,099 Roster 85 (pretty similar in enrollment and roster) Avon enrollment 3,095 Roster 79 / Chatard enrollment 714 Roster 81 (similar in roster big difference in enrollment) There are likely very gifted athletes in the halls of Avon that don't play football, they may not play football because they have no interest to play football and prefer focusing on another sport: Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, etc. Honestly who knows.
  9. No, both have explosive offenses. If they both make it to Regional it will be a great game. Both have terrific defenses also.
  10. New Palestine is without a doubt the top of 5A until somebody knocks them off. They are the defending 5A State Champions and look just as good this year. Watching both New Pal and Cathedral's offenses they are both very explosive and I would say both among the top in the State. Both have speed in the passing game, both have speed in the run game. I personally think while New Pal has speed in the running game, they also have power in the running game Spegal is a load to bring down and has terrific speed in the open field. Both also have very good Offensive lines. With the way both teams are playing and if they both stay healthy it should make for a great Regional. That is of course both need to get out of Sectionals as nothing is a given. Cathedral still has Decatur Central in their Sectional. Going into the season I thought New Pal's sectional looked to be rather easy depending on how good Whiteland was, but now it looks as though Franklin has emerged to be a solid team. I don't think Franklin can knock off New Pal but they certainly look much improved. Best of luck to both Cathedral and New Pal. They both have terrific coaches Ralph and Peebles.
  11. My best guess would be a young team learning each week. I believe they only had 3 returning starters on Offense.
  12. My thoughts exactly. I had to go look at the stats: http://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=273383
  13. I should probably edit my post. By contender I didn't mean contender to win 5A. I meant contender for the top 5 spot. I believe New Palestine, Cathedral, Valparaiso, and Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger sit in the top 4 spots. I feel there are several teams jockeying to be among that top 5 including Bloomington North, Bloomington South, Michigan City, Terre Haute South, Franklin, and even Decatur Central
  14. I left out in my post Cathedral has another game this week that will push their Offense and Defense playing at St. X in Cincinnati. The St. X Bombers always play strong defense and make it challenging for opposing teams offense. Their offense seems to be doing really well this year, they have a new Offensive Coordinator this year in Andy Coverdale. Coverdale was the Offensive Coordinator at Louisville Trinity from 1999-2002, then the Head Coach at Castle from 2003-2005, and returned to Louisville Trinity as OC from 2006-2018. Should be a great game in Cincinnati next week.
  15. From the looks of it the Irish football team has done well for itself. @ Cincinnati Elder 38-31 loss in OT Chatard 31-21 win It's unfortunate that @IndplsCathedral_Dad, @PHJIrish, the rest of the Irish Dads and tailgate crew don't have a face to go with the screen name. I get the feeling if @CaptainHook were to shout "1906" there would be mass laughter. In all seriousness, nice wins for New Palestine, Cathedral, and Valparaiso. FW Dwenger lost a close one to a very good Homestead. Some other contenders showing up as well in Bloomington North and Terre Haute South. I think most will agree 5A has a lot more depth of very good teams at the top this year compared to last year. I think come tournament time 5A will be one of the more interesting classes. Defending Champion New Pal will remain at the top until someone beats them. I do love all the teams (more than just New Pal, Cathedral, FW Dwenger, and Valparaiso) really looking to make 5A very interesting. Best of luck to all!
  16. Judging by that prediction you might see a Tojan defense and Irish defense take exception to that and come out and play terrific to make it a low scoring game.
  17. Last time I watched a game at Arlington it was more like a pigs sty after all the rain. Was a game between the Irish and Rebels, mom's from both teams were probably cringing. 😆
  18. I'm thrilled Sammy will be in attendance. I am sure he remembers what a thrill it was when he did the same thing. https://www.heraldbulletin.com/sports/high_school_sports/mireles-sets-rushing-record-as-panthers-win-thriller/article_e8ba62ed-357a-5c82-bba4-de31c89e50f0.html Spegal could break it on his first carry of the game.
  19. I wouldn't say the torch has been passed. I would label it more that the HCC is right on the heels of the MIC. There is good depth in the HCC this year and the top teams have performed very well. That being said I think it would take a few more defeating MIC teams in the tournament and State Championships to totally surpass the MIC. Avon looks to be very good this year. The Avon / Brownsburg game should be a dandy. Neither Avon or Brownsburg want to take their eye off of Westfield or Fishers though.
  20. Only those who have been around the GID for awhile would get it! @hhpatriot04 come on man we could throw Larry Legend in there! lol
  21. Being realistic would be noticing the team is 2-0 outscoring their 2 opponents 70-14. They can't control if the opposing team is going to play bad or good they just play and if the opposing team is bad then they have done exactly what they needed to. I have yet to see a High School, College, or even Professional team play a perfect game. Every team makes mistakes they can find on film and work to correct. My point is being positive of the team you are a parent of is much better than inciting negativity towards the team. I've seen the call out of specific units and coaches on your posts. Stay positive and give encouragement.
  22. No offense, but you have yourself listed as a Cathedral parent. I've yet to see a positive post about the Cathedral football team (with the exception of the WR trio). As a parent shouldn't you be at least somewhat positive when your team is 2-0 and has outscored their opponents 70-14. I mean weren't you the one who more or less ripped the Irish secondary? The same secondary that just had 1 player with 3 picks (1 a pick 6) in a game? Perhaps a little more encouragement and positivity for the team could go a long way.
  23. Just curious who exactly isn''t or wasn't taking New Palestine serious? I think they proved last year they could play with and beat Center Grove when they actually did. I would hope most around here (with the exception of a few) know Coach Ralph is and has been an excellent Coach since he has taken the job at New Pal. In my own personal opinion the stand out qualities I see in Coach Ralph: his teams win because he has them winning where it all starts in the weight room, he has been a master at having his offensive line play very disciplined and fundamentally sound, he has the ability to get his team to buy into his culture and schemes, he has been excellent at making sure his teams are very well condition (and they need to be with having 2 way players). Outstanding qualities for him as a coach and he has developed some fine young men. One question for Center Grove fans. Is Carson Steele still nursing a nagging hamstring injury. I don't ask because I feel he would have changed the outcome of the game. It certainly does hurt you not having your leading rusher, but New Pal is a fantastic team. I ask because I hope the young man is back on the field soon, I love watching him run hard just as much as I enjoy Spegal run hard!
