  1. No offense (especially if it was you) to whoever designed that spreadsheet, but as a spreadsheet lover and avid user in my professional and personal life, looking at that although I see why they've colored it that way, just makes my eyes sad.
  2. Massey which I believe to be the best, if you want to factor in out-of-state competition, has Center Grove as a HUGE favorite, a 72-percent win rate and 33-21 score prediction. I'm on the record as favoring Cathedral. And this is why we settle it on the field.
  3. After Week 8 1+++ Cathedral (8-0) 1++ Center Grove (8-0) @DT thinks anything south of Fort Wayne is "southern Indiana..." 1. Central (8-0) 2. Southridge (8-0) 3. Castle (5-2) 4. Jasper (6-2) 5. Gibson Southern (5-3) 6. Memorial (5-3) 7. Mater Dei (4-4) 8. North (5-3) 9. Tell City (6-1) 10. Boonville (4-2) HM: Vincennes Lincoln (3-5), Linton-Stockton (5-3) — Heritage Hills and Reitz are close to 50/50 against these teams according to Massey and CalPreps, but the Panthers and Patriots combined have wins against teams with 11 total wins. Ironically Reitz's only win (by 1 point) against a team with a win was Vincennes. The computers really don't like Mount Vernon against these four teams, despite their win against HH in Week 1. No team-by-team comments this week, except: CalPreps has North 5 points better than GS; Sagarin has GS winning by 9; Massey has it at a 50/50 draw with a median average score of 28-28. I'll follow my gut and take the team that seems to be performing better lately — Gibson Southern. This is especially true if you compare their Recent Sagarin Rating — North 54.11 (#155), Gibson 65.26 (#75). Rankings will continue through the regional this year because of COVID and the closed schedules.
  4. You're wrestling side is showing. I think @Rudy typically posts a seeded tournament (not changing sectionals) using either Sagarin or his power rankings? I'm for the coaches seeding 16 teams in two sectionals, then using Sagarin to seed semistates, so the best teams play for a state title at Lucas and not having semistates often deciding state championships... It dilutes the quality of the state finals and penalizes the second best team if they are arbitrarily in the half of the state as the best team. Semistates would be at predetermined neutral sites and played on Saturday with 2-3 games per site.
  5. Wasn't there a sectional game between Gibson and Memorial played at Harrison (whatever the official sponsor named the field) around 2013? Was that just a case of Enlow being used by Bosse and not wanting to play on Saturday, or were the Titans the home team or maybe a jersey mix up? @tango @Titan32
  6. I bet the losing coach will say the better team won... but does he qualify it with "tonight?" The trolls must be fed!
  7. No idea, Sagarin and I assume all computer rankings like CalPreps and Massey are fubared because of COVID. They should improve through the tournament. In a normal year, I'd say Cathedral has the tougher SoS, but Sagarin would probably say CG does because all the in state MIC games. All speculation. ETA: Sagarin's initial ratings give extra weight to schools in larger classes. Not sure about the others, but CalPreps has a "program prestige" factor.
  8. Names escape me, but was that the year Princeton had some very explosive players and overall better than most other recent Princeton football teams? Sometime near then, I covered a Princeton football game, the Buss-Young finale at Mt Carmel and Southridge's sectional upset of Young's team and her breaking Damon Bailey's career scoring record. Damon, coaching at Butler, couldn't talk directly about Young because of NCAA recruiting rules, but he returned my call and chatted very frankly for around 30 minutes. Gave all he had to basketball until his knees couldn't take anymore surgeries. Respect.
  9. Elephant? "Fila" is what Bishops in chess are called in Arabic.
  10. In on one, predicting a balanced and physical team Cathedral trails at halftime 17-10 but grinds out a 34-31 win after a few adjustments and their experience playing GCL teams. Regardless of the outcome, this game will likely be remembered and talked about for a long time, unless Cathedral 2021 will be on a completely different level making this game less significant in the all-time greats discussion.
  11. Solid. Let's set how they hold in the tournament, especially 5A.
  12. As a person or as a persona on an online message board, you are OK with it?
  13. Year and I'm sure Mr. Princeton, Pete Swanson, would've written a short novel about.
  14. GAME DAY! Post your updates and scores for Week 8 of Indiana high school football games. Also check out us on Twitter @gridirondigest. Use #TGD for an auto retreat to our 9,000 followers. Enjoy!
  15. I was going to start a thread on 2020 conference champions, perhaps needing an asterisk if conference by laws don't address such cases 🤔 I'll wait until Sunday and not distract on game day. Even state tournament champs at all rounds may need an asterisk given that some teams can't participate due to COVID-19 and related issues...
  16. If it's that simple and Castle doesn't get a share of the conference title due to wins or winning percentage...I don't know. It's a tough call hopeful conference by laws addressed this pre-COVID. I assume some spring sport teams' records have previously been affected by rain outs. Interesting times. I hope your Tigers make things interesting down the stretch and get some momentum heading into the sectional and next year given they are a young squad... (I need to watch what I say. My niece is a first grader in Castle's school system. If RMHS starts "recruiting" her for her gymnastic prowess, I might have to notify the IHSAA...)
  17. It's usually fine if already public knowledge and not malicious. Not all rules in life are posted because not all issues are black or white, illegal or legal. We learn through observation and experience what's acceptable in various contexts. ETA: @Bobref could probably explain with more authority about societal rights and wrongs and the theory behind that topic.
  18. Having worked with, interviewed, and been in the destroyed houses of the ethno-religious group of Yezidi survivors of the 2014 ISIS genocide and being married to a survivor of Saddam Hussein's multi-decade genocide against Kurdish people in his own country, culminating in the 1988 chemical gas attack on civilians in Halabja, I find this headline distasteful and disparaging to survivors of genocide (or "cleansings"). You're better than this @DT. https://www.rudaw.net/english/kurdistan/020620172
  19. Can you post the Twitter link to fill the rest of us in about who this thread is about?
  20. I was 3-0 against Jasper from 2001-2003. My debts are paid and I'm an active member of HH QB Club, even if I'm not there to play in the golf scramble, I donated a brick to building the wall, which I hope to see if I'm able to visit home for the holidays this year as I plan. Jon got the idea for the bricks in part due to Dad helping fund the Santa statue in front of town hall with customized pavers 15 or so years ago... I already owe Dave a Patriot Dog and an Diet Mt Dew at a basketball game; I hope to see you and others like Crewsy and BCaster if HH has a game (hopefully at home) around the holiday break. Back to the SIAC, and I might start a thread about this, should a conference champion that didn't play all the teams in the conference get an asterisk in the record book -- for example if Castle wins a share of the SIAC, they never played Bosse and that game was recorded as a "did not play" not as a "Bosse forfeit" as I understand it?
  21. Still hoping for some crazy two-loss tie for the SIAC. I haven't played out all the scenarios, but I believe it's possible.
  22. No it's because you're kraut eaters. FYI, My family is German, I speak German, and my mother has worked at the Schnitzelbank for 25 years and in Jasper for nearly 15 now.
  23. Playing devil's advocate here, but I've long said if wrestling coaches can seed hundreds of kids in the sectional for what's debatedly the most exciting state tournament, then why can't football coaches too?
  24. Yes, acting on the interests of the member schools... So I wouldn't call it the job of the IHSAA to maintain competitive balance, again they're reactive not proactive. It's nuanced, but an important difference.
  25. But it's not the IHSAA pushing the reforms, we which I took to be @crimsonace1s point. The reorganization of tournaments has been a response to coaches' associations and ADs/principals. The IHSAA has no such independent agenda.
