Where did you find that nice word?  Were you doing your daily "it pays to enrich your word power" in Reader's Digest?

I learned it from Mrs. Clinard in the 5th grade. In 1966. Go Cicero Red Devils!

Nah, putting words in my mouth.

I give Sherrone a C+ this year, woulda been a D had he not won in Columbus.

Turned over the entire staff, played 5 top 25 teams (4 more than IU), replaced a legend and bombed on developing a QB.  (To be fair, the rest of the country got a head start on the portal last year while Michigan was playing for a title.)

Michigan and IU don’t even play next year but the 2025 Big Ten schedule was released this week.

“Google it.”

Good luck to the Hoosiers in their road games in Eugene, Happy Valley, and Iowa City.

Things will return to normal in 2025.

IU goes 3-9 or 4-8 next year? That's normal for IU football. There's two, three at most, games IU will be an underdog in next year. IU going 9-3 or 10-2 next year isn't the flex you think it is nor is it returning to normal. IU still returns a lot more than you think, especially on the offensive line where everything stops and starts. IU turning over a large part of the roster and still winning 8+ games next year further supplants Cignetti's legacy.

Look, even Cignetti’s James Madison teams could’ve negotiated IU’s schedule this year.

They beat the 7th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 17th and 18th place Big Ten teams this year.

Indiana was projected to go 4-8 this year, picked 17th out of 18 teams, with their lone B10 win projected to come against Purdue. Teams like Michigan, Nebraska, UCLA, and Washington would have finished a lot higher than 7th, 10th, 12th, and 13th had they in fact not lost to Indiana. And all would have finished with a winning record. Indiana wasn't able to play itself this year and their SOS took a hit at their opponents expense.

I mean, at least Notre Dame (A&M) has a win they can hang their hat on.  This has become the “we haven’t beaten anyone bowl”, especially after Army’s loss yesterday.

Do they? A&M went 1-3 down the stretch. Who is their best win? Missouri, a team who lost to every good team they played by 30+? LSU, a team that lost to 6-6 USC?

All great points on your part.

Cannot disagree. IU has to stop the Notre Dame run game to have a chance. And Leonard is a threat as a runner. IU has been solid against the run this season. I will say that Leonard's passing game has been suspect. He seems to hesitate a lot, and he waits until receivers are completely open before throwing the ball, instead of having the timing of throwing when they break or even leading the runner so he can catch the ball without breaking stride. he is so similar to Ian Book, but is a better runner than Book. For most of the season, I felt IU was the better team. Protecting Rourke will be a huge task. Will Notre Dame blitz much? Or just relay on the front 4? IU struggled most of the Ohio State game with blitz pick up, and for half of the Michigan game. I have not been impressed with what Golden dials up for blitzes. It's rare that the guy blitzing gets there. Far too often it's a safety that blitzes.

I would be surprised if they rely only on the front because they've lived in man all year and the whole defense is built around forcing early throws, throw aways, and bad throws. The defensive line doesn't generate any pressure on its own without Traore and Bothello, so sacks are a function of smothering coverage and chaos created at the line of scrimmage. I haven't noticed nearly as much safety pressure this year––at least two safeties coming from a two high look––and I think Golden's first year was the high point for that.

ND's passing game is passable so long as they stay on schedule. Leonard's ability to improvise is crucial and somewhat mitigates his own underwhelming arm and the years-long problem of putting largely underwhelming receivers on the field. He's basically having the season that Hartman did last year, but the difference is he can move the ball on his own.

Jeremiyah Love is probably the best back that IU will have seen so far, and the three-headed monster of Love, Price, and Leonard should push IU's run defense to the limit. I expect ND to lean on the run, and IU's aggressive run defense looks like it will be the most significant challenge the Irish have faced so far.

As important as ND's run game is to the outcome on Friday, I think the key will be whether IU can crease ND enough on the ground. If not, I think ND wins by two scores.

I think ND’s aura and all that entails playing in SB will ultimately lead the Irish over the Hoosiers.

ND-31

IU-17

Undaunted….

Confused about the the buffalo. Is this Colorado or IU?

The Bison was Indiana’s mascot in the 60’s. Currently a push to bring it back. Originates from the Indiana state seal.

If you’ve ever been in Nick’s English Hut on Kirkwood, you will see the old mascot displayed through the pub.

I posted some historical photos of the Bison mascot on the Indiana football thread.

Good luck to both fan bases tonight…can’t wait for the post game takes (where the losing teams’ fans immediately jump on the winning teams’ bandwagon).

Picked up some nice IU gear at a couple of Rally House Indy area locations. Nice selections.

Even had some Michigan and Ohio State gear. Picked up some as well.  Perfect for wiping my a$$.

Good stuff, thanks for that history lesson! But certainly the push isn't to replace Hoosiers with Bisons? That'll never happen, so good luck and God power on that one.

I don't think I've ever been to Nick's, it's been awhile since I've been to Bloomington. But I'm open to suggestions as I might be heading down there for a weekend trip sometime soon.

Imagine living 15 miles from the Ohio boarder and having to see people wearing Ohio gear everywhere. I swear people in Ohio wear that stuff on purpose everytime they come to Fort Wayne to shop.

No…you are right. Would never replace Hoosiers. They remained Hoosiers in the 60’s with the Bison mascot. Their Army ROTC program today are called the Bison.

If going to Btown and want to hit some pubs for game watching, suggest Nicks English Hut, Yogi’s, Upstairs Pub, Buffalalouie’s, Brothers, The Tap and CrazyHorse.   Nick’s, Upstairs, Buffa all on Kirkwood or close. Yogi’s, Brothers, CrazyHorse, and The Tap on the downtown square area. All within walking distance.

How are the wings at Buffalouies?  I keep thinking I want to try Buffalouies every time I'm there, but I never actually make in it. My wife and daughter always want to go to Mother Bears.

I think you have to give the losing fan base a couple of hours to vent first. They might go through that "I hope they lose in the next round" phase for a few hours. Give it 24 hours though, and the IU and Notre Dame contingents will once again unite.

Most fans root for a team from their general area. For me, it's the state of Indiana first, Big Ten second. I hopped on the Michigan bandwaggon in the playoffs, certainly not wanting to see another SEC champion. Jumping on nearby bandwagons is normal.

Forgot about Mother Bears. Great pizza. Go to the one in the town, not the one out on the interstate for the best vibe. I like the wings at BuffaLouie’s…solid overall menu.
