Yes, they voted to leave this morning and applied to the WIC since the conference had interest with the Alices. As of now, they will still be in the SIAC for the 2025-2026 academic year according to their AD.

Yep. I have a feeling they're wishing they would have tried salvaging the Big 8 post Jasper.

The Big 8 wasn't salvageable, but they had a window of opportunity during which joining the PAC was an option.

PAC big school division seems more desireable than the WIC.

I think VL would like to be in the PAC-Big School, but the powers that be in the PAC-Big School are still mad that VL (stupidly) chose to go the SIAC and partner with Jasper 5 years ago!

They have a better chance of winning the Wic on a regular basis...to them...that looks better...lots of travel though in my opinion!

As with most things, blame the Illinois legislature.  Spooked Mt Carmel and they bolted.

Could the remaining 5 have survived?  Princeton, Washington, Lincoln, Mt Vernon, and Boonville?  Or would losing Jasper's gate (aka ticket $$) be too much?

Good point. I forgot the downfall of the Big 8 started with Illinois briefly deciding to go to a District format and Mt. Carmel bolted.

Nope... they couldn't have, IMHO. Personally, I would have given VL a second chance to get into the PAC Big School division. I think they would have been a nice fit. The word I heard around the conference is that the second chance wouldn't come because of all the shenanigans that go on with that school at sporting events regarding sportsmanship.

Over the years I have noticed the VL fans are definitely a lot to handle.   And not in a positive way.

I don't think any school is "knucklehead" free (including my own school). I don't recall VL fans being particularly worse than anyone else.

Have you ever been to a game there?   Where home fans sit on the visitor side and then instigate stuff?   I’ve seen it.  Makes no sense because the home side stands are half full.

Yep, pretty much been to every Memorial game (home and away) since 1994. Don't recall any VL fans ever sitting on our side. That probably wouldn't make the top 5 of things I've seen in those 30 years though. I'm sure we all could make a list.

Aw heck, the visiting team getting taunted and jeered at by the home fans going in and coming out of the locker room is half the fun of playing on the road! That happens everywhere. What I enjoy is fans standing and sitting around the field 10 feet away from the action.

Must be talking about Linton fans
