In the bottom 3 classes... .Heritage Hills comes to mind as a top team with grass; there aren't many others, though. 

 

I've just been involved in A LOT of muddy games (coached and played)... the team that played better won.

Actually, it did happen recently in one of the top 3 classes.

Yes, normally the team that plays better wins, lol. But it doesn't mean they could duplicate their efforts on a dry field versus playing in three inches of mud. Inclement weather tends to even things out.

I hope that isn't your example. Warren would beat Penn during that time frame if they played on hot lava, if they played in Antarctica, or yes, if they played in 3 inches of mud.

No need to discuss because "home cooking" is a given.  Especially if the home team concession has good pork burgers. And the ice/water ratio of the water cooler left in the officials dressing room is just right.

He's staying quiet, probably doesn't feel the need to engage. It's really hard to argue my point here. Bad weather is the great equalizer whether one likes it or not. I've seen it burn the teams that I follow, but I've also seen it help. It does the better team no favors.

The biggest ‘mud game’ that comes to mind is 2006 Jasper @ Ev Central in the sectional. Best team Central had in school history (at the time) ended up losing to the Power Pitch of the Wildcats in standing mud. 8-7 final score. 

I would guess Central wins by 2-3 TD’s on a dry field. It’s the main reason all EVSC schools got turf a year later.

Great example. Central beat Memorial that year 63-7.........Jasper beat them 16-7. Only common opponent that year I believe. Not sure why it's hard for some to grasp the fact that bad weather brings unequal teams closer together.

I agree that in the playoffs “sometimes” the home team a create a sense of energy or “atmosphere” that is palpable.   Not always, but I have witnessed it a couple times.  It’s seems it’s less about venue and more about community energy for that contest on that night.  When it’s against you, one can feel it right away.

Other than that, these numbers represent my personal observations.
