-IU and Ohio State (assuming they play) will sort 1 and 2 out. Doesn't really matter where each are ranked right now. I don't really see how the loser drops below the 4th seed and first round bye

-Notre Dame currently last at-large team in the field. Could easily be jumped by Texas this weekend if the Longhorns win at Georgia. ND needs USC to keep on winning and Pitt to stay a ranked opponent when they play in a few weeks.

Help me out here:

“When we looked at tape and looked at metrics, we felt like Ohio State was a little bit better up front on the offensive line and we felt like they were a little bit better defensively."

Metrics trumps on field performance? I really don't care who's one or two, just trying to make sense of the thinking behind it. IU beat Illinois 63-10, OSU beat them 34-16, "but we think Ohio State is better." Is that how this works?

Based on this year, Indiana should be the #1 seed, but that is not how the powers that be see it. Historical data obviously plays an issue here which the Hoosiers have none. If they both win out, they will meet in Indy in a few weeks…

I was mistaken thinking the power 4 had guaranteed spots for their conference champions. The ACC could be in trouble. Miami is the highest ranked team at 15. But they need a LOT of help just to play for a conference championship.

Current ACC Rankings:

If Georgia Tech wins out including the ACC Championship, they are in the playoff. I think the same goes for Virginia. Pitt has to win out to even have a chance; which makes their game Saturday an interesting one.

I think the Irish are back on the bubble. I believe Miami will move ahead of them in the next ranking. Oklahoma will fall a couple spots after their loss. Whoever that 5th conference champion is is going to knock somebody out who should be in. Imagine if Duke beat Virginia. I don’t think it’s likely, but it sure throws a wrench into it if they do.

I agree. Virginia is only a 2.5 point favorite over Duke so not far fetched at all. The bigger problem for the Irish is if BYU beats Texas Tech, both those teams will get in. BYU will not get in if they lose to Texas Tech so that would be a bid stealer if it happens. Other thing to watch is if Alabama loses to Georgia, do they get in with 3 losses ahead of the Irish? If so, big problem for Notre Dame…

Thought Oklahoma won this week?  They beat LSU by 4 at home.

Here’s a question for the Committee. What are you going to do about Ole Miss? They are currently ranked 5th. But Lane Kiffin is now out and won’t coach in the playoff. He has reportedly told his staff that if they’re not on the plane with him to Baton Rouge today, they won’t have a job at LSU next season. The Committee has previously said they would take into account things like significant injuries. What are they going to do with chaos on the coaching staff?

You are correct. I was thinking though that the close score would hurt them.

Can players immediately enter the portal once their coach resigns/gets fired/takes another job/etc?

This is from AI, I didn’t do the research myself. So, take it for what it’s worth:

No, players can no longer immediately enter the transfer portal when a coach leaves

; they must now wait five days after a new head coach is hired or announced. This triggers a 15-day window for players to enter their name into the portal, a change from the previous 30-day period that opened right after a coaching change.

The Irish had a good season and I'm happy about that.  The committee has shown to be a bit inconsistent in past year with their choices.  If the Irish are left out of the CFP it won't be the first time they've been overlooked.  Being Independent has its problems.  We will just have to see what happens next Sunday.  I won't be worrying about it 'til then.

Correct me if I’m wrong. But we have to root for no upsets in the conference championship games.

I think that is right. I do think the only one that has no impact on the Irish is the B1G championship.

Agreed. Both of them are in ahead of the Irish no matter the outcome.

It seems like everything going chalk in the ACC, Big 12, and SEC games would be the best case for ND. If so, the ACC is likely a one-team league, the Big 12 is almost surely a one-team league, and 10-3 Bama either stays between ND and any other at-large teams (Miami) or drops out entirely. ND might be able to survive an upset in any one of those three games, but two or more upsets would probably sink the Irish.

Except they left out the automatic qualifier from the ACC, either Duke or Virginia, neither one of which figures in these odds.

They have UVA 12th at 56%, but I see your point...they should have UVA/Duke at 100%.  I guess one could same same for TTU/BYU at 100%.  (although TTU may get the invite even if they lose)  This weekend is going to get real interesting.  Does Bama make it in with 3 losses if they lost to UGA over a 2 loss team?  I don't see how.

I guess so!  I'll leave that up to the worriers though.  1988 was a long time ago, but I suffered a lot more years as a Cub fan.

They did but looked terrible, their offense is horrible. I'd honestly put Texas in over Oklahoma as the Longhorns beat them 17.

No disagreement...but with a final ranking of #8, guessing they will make the dance.  Could be wrong.
