I'm now a fat, old, weak, and dumb 39 year divorced single dad raising 2 sons on my own. It's not that I don't love the debates and reading the information, my attention has changed. I also don't fire of a response like I did when I was younger. I read things, raise my eyebrows, and move on. I was an aggressive career climbing 44 year old mid level corporate executive when I stumbled upon The GID in the spring of 2004 in Plainfield , Indiana . I am now 60 years old, semi retired and financially secure and looking for something to keep me busy for the next ten years. Hence my offer to by The Digest. Just curious MarshallCounty. Would you pay $10 a month for a site that brings you all the content that I described earlier in this thread?

Makes me think back to the thousands upon thousands of times I must have logged in to The GID over these past 17 years and the countless hours creating new content and participating in thread conversations. If that was not worth 5 bucks a month then something is definitely wrong in this world relative to cost-value relationships. Just sayin'

Sorry, I don't see how your average English or Library Sciences degree from a traditional 4-year college can compete. LOVE it. Just don't bite your nails. 1

Guest DT
Technology is rendering mid level white collar jobs obsolete The pandemic has shown that corporations can operate on much fewer human resources, business travel and other non essential expenses, driving profits higher and corporate stock valuations into the stratosphere The pandemic has done more to widen the gap between the rich and the poor than most other major events in history Today, plumbers, electricians and painters and general home improvement specialists are displacing mid level white collar workers on the salary scale. It's a simple case of supply and demand

The NLC has been in a bit of a tailspin over the past decade. Despite the addition of Mishawaka, the conference seems detached and distant , as if they play in their own little world. They once had some of the most fervent supporters on the GID. Now their schools are rarely mentioned here anymore. Goshen, Plymouth, Concord, etc, is there anybody out there? Is there anyone at home? Reminds me of the scene in Terminator Judgement Day, when John Connor and Kate Brewster make it down into the nuclear fallout bunker, and the place is deserted, and has been for 30 years. Thats the NLC. Fortunately, the fertile lands between Plymouth to the west and Warsaw on the east are still there and thriving, and havent succombed to the devastation of a thermonuclear attack. Perhaps a few will come out of their bunkers and breathe new life into the moribund NLC. we are still around so don't worry

It's a simple case of supply and demand Agree with the first 3 paragraphs BUT (re: paragraph 4....such as it is) I don’t think plumbers, electricians, etc. are displacing ANYONE as regards salary scale. They were ALWAYS essential and making good money....more so today when there are even fewer of them. Some of the most successful businessmen I have met personally were “tradesmen”. I’ve worked for developers worth probably $100MM or more who had associate degrees. My (much-older) step-brother is/was a draftsmen with a high school degree who owns one of the largest commercial insulation companies in the Midwest. I’d trade him any day of the week for my paltry law degree vs. the homes he owns in multiple states. Add that he is arguably one of the nicest, wisest and most generous human beings I have ever known regardless of family.....who can still kick my butt in one-on-one hoops. Even worse, the guy looks like a film star. We attribute far too much to someone having a college degree versus someone who is simply smart and willing to work.

I not sure where you are going using your experience in IT to validate your disagreement. But anyhow, a product as used here is something that is marketed and sold as a commodity. DT was pointing out our failing in marketing for our product. I am simply stating that there is no failure in marketing since it is not intended as a product. We neither market nor sell the Digest. Could it be? That is a completely different question and most likely has a different answer. We have provided it and have only asked for help in the form of donations to pay the basic costs of keeping it open for almost two and a half decades now. That just seems crazy to say. We have guys on hear talking their brand of crap who weren't even born when we started doing this.
