North Side makes a change

Good points: I don't want to underestimate the value of the CYO system. Bowen did have some pretty good offenses at Snider. Kudos to him for putting the Bruins in the position they were in last season. At the end of the day, I think my problem is with the new transfer rule. Like college, it just created one hell of a mess. Get kicked out of practice? So what, I'll transfer. Don't like the way a coach talks to me? So what, I'll transfer. The guy that spoke to me at summer camp was pretty cool? Awesome, I'll transfer. Accountability has been tossed out the window. And loyalty just doesn't exist anymore. -

I mean, it seems like the reasonable response from your end would simply be not to watch... It seems that @hhpatriot04 has the best idea here: sanction both 8-man and co-ops and let the "marketplace of ideas" sort it out... -

My role as Direct elect of IFCA Region 4 and 16 years as Assistant Coach rep is to promote opportunities for School Communities who wish to participate in football, 11 man or 8 man. I understand anything new creates uneasy or in your case your next crusade to opin YOUR views on a situation that you have very little knowledge of clearly . Thats ok. Rensselaer has a roster of 42, we are not in the bucket that would be considered, however, If I coached at South Newton, I would have been all about it. You've really come full circle over the years here: From the boogey man of football too dangerous for our poor children to play a game meant for kids.... to bemoaning schools who go to 8 man since they do not have the numbers for classic 11 man... Wild Message Board Arc for you my man , Pure entertainment for me really -

A final thought on the above post, this weekend's Cathedral-Loyola Academy game should provide us with a good idea of the relative strength of both states programs, as both are rated in similar positions in their respective states. -

Wish we could get an answer for your question. I have been a tireless advocate for a two-day event in Indy with four of our best teams against one team from each of our border states. That would give us a better idea of the strengths of all those state programs. Can you image how exciting an event featuring East St. Louis (IL), Novi (MI) Central Catholic, Massillon (OH) Washington, and Louisville (KY) Trinity against Brownsburg, Westfield, Carmel and Warren Central would be? For now, though, all we can do is speculate. As far as Lincoln-Way East is concerned, did not think that much of them in the pre-season but the one-point win over Brother Rice was impressive. Not only that, but a quick glance of their schedule looks like they could/should win the remainder of their games as it is not an overwhelming slate. In relation to how they would do against Indiana teams, Brownsburg looks a loss, Westfield and Carmel would be very tough games for them. After that, I think they could hold their own. No, I did not watch the ESL - Mt. Carmel game. Too busy watching Alabaster Thompson-Phenix City Central, Bishop Gorman-Mater Dei and few other games. -

Lots of love for Luers yet no one bats an eye when a kid shows up freshman year that didn't go through the cyo ranks..talent development just doesn't start at the high school level..are these new coaches promising starting spots and exposure, probably. Bowen helped shape the new offense Snider ran when they started making runs with Tippman, his scheme catered to the strengths of the offense at Northrop. Those players could have went anywhere, can't blame him..Dwenger backup qb transfers from Luers and ends up playing against roncalli..it happens. Bowen n those Bruins beat Snider twice and it could have been 1 point both times..still hadn't been done in over 2 decades. -
I understand your point, but I don't agree that it's no different. Officials always stress the importance and oddities of the kicking game, adding additional coverage and having the U run onto the field just doesn't seem practical. 3 Officials on the goal line is also overkill.

Thank you for the information. I do hope co-ops get traction in Indiana, as they have in Illinois. Finding ways for youth to play 11-man tackle football instead of 8-man tackle football should be the goal of the IHSAA and IFCA. I have watched a number of high school 8-man tackle football games via youtube, and it is pretty much Arena Football played outside. Blech. -

So you didn’t put the teams together? When was this? 1970? I’d love to see you win 10 games in a season at FC. Not exactly a football hotbed. It’s only been done twice I think? Coach Bragg does a terrific job. -

At the end of the day, the new transfer rules have made things pretty messy. It's a free for all out there, the wild wild west. Building a program is now more challenging than ever with other coaches out there trying to poach the players you've spent time developing. A kid goes through the Luers program, gets developed, then Northrop or North Side get to enjoy the fruits of Luers labor. It's not right. It was a brain dead decision by the IHSAA. I'm not at all impressed with what Bowen did at Northrop. He brought in some high profile players and still almost lost to Snider's worst team ever last season in the playoffs. -

Bowen leaving before this season is something that was a little fishy as well. Northrop and Northrop Side had plenty of transfers for some unknown reason… well, maybe it’s known… 2+2=4, unless it equals 6… -

Is the Georgia team a prep school? I did notice last year they played some heavy hitters and the losses were close scores. This should be interesting. Yes, Ames Field in Michigan City is a gem. Did you watch the Chicago Mt. Carmel / East St. Louis game? Those 2 teams have high end D1 talent all over the field. Clearly a regional All Star team type of feel to them. I noticed you have Lincoln Way East ranked with Chicago Brother Rice. Did you add LWE for beating Rice on Friday? I didn't watch that one. But, I have a hard time believing the top 10 teams in Indiana aren't as good as Lincoln Way East. Their enrollment is about 2,600. Area is fairly white collar. A lof new development south of Orland Park in Frankfort. They probably lose some good talent to Providence Catholic or Joliet Catholic. Just seems like they can't be any better than a Carmel, Westfield, Warren Central, etc. -
