  1. I am very happy for Mike Kirschner and for his wife Terry. They are high school sweethearts, and they now get to be back at the alma mater. Mike is a first-rate and first class individual who is exactly the person you think he is. I have nothing but high regard for him as a man, a father, a coach, and, most importantly, a friend. His heart is as big as his personality, and I'm truly pleased he's going to get a shot to lead the Warriors after a coaching career that has truly brought him full circle. Warren as an assistant to Cascade to Ben Davis to Mount Vernon...now back to Warren again. Nothing but respect and admiration from this Giant. Mike's a True Warrior. We just borrowed him for a few years. He'll always also be a Giant to me.

  2. I think you’re being a little too cynical here. For some guys coaching their alma mater is a dream. Seems that way here. I wouldn’t read into it anymore than that.

  3. I guess all that suburb crap didn’t really matter

  5. Congrats Coach and CG program and community.

  6. I think it comes down to the fact that college coaches make promises to recruits that high school coaches obviously do not make. I don’t think that comparison works here. Edit: For transparency I personally don’t care if a college coach leaves for a better job either.

  7. Then why do people get so outraged when college coaches do this exact same thing? It’s about the kids...until it’s not.

  8. How do we think the lack of money is going to have a strain on athletic departments next season? Football is the backbone of the athletic department financially and with the past season I would think most athletic departments did not make money. Any chance games get changed because of travel expense? What is everyone's thoughts.

  10. We all have our own ideas: he’s just not afraid to voice his. There are many different ways to view this whole dynamic and as other posters have said, he does bring about discussion.

  11. That would be good for Center Grove and bad for Franklin Central.

  12. Now is the time for a sincere response. There were some ideas that we got from the pandemic that should remains. Gates should be cashless. Pre purchase tickets online and get a QP code to be scanned at the games. Possibly the same with concessions. I don't know if there is a set price for football tickets throughout the state. Maybe reduce the price by a buck or two and get people in the seats. Be nice to see how creative school with get with promotions.

  13. It's really no different than probably what brought Stan Benge back to Ben Davis in girls basketball. Stan not only won championships here, but he's a Ben Davis Alumnus. BD is home. Warren is home for Mike.

  14. As for those here questioning his motives. Warren is home. It's his alma mater. I think that broke any tie.

  15. What he said in 2017 could’ve been true for him at the time. But that truth could’ve changed.

  16. Best of luck to Coach Kirschner. People I respect in football have had nothing but the best to say about him and his programs. If I were a head coach, I could definitely see the appeal of returning to your Alma Mater to finish your career.

  17. Tom Allen...national runner up for AP Coach of the Year. Well deserved.

  18. Just wish that folks would speak the truth and unfiltered...the young kids at BD, Mount Vernon and Warren deserve it.

  19. Generally I don’t fault coaches, or anyone for that matter, for leaving one job to go to another they feel is better for them. Yes I don’t like people going back on their word, but circumstances can change in 3 years, it’s a little unfair to expect someone to feel the same way now as they did then. Coach Kirschner might’ve gotten from MV the break he needed at the time, he could’ve realized he missed the grind of the MIC and working with a larger number of kids. I’m sure he has his reasons, and as you’ve been alluding to, I don’t doubt that winning in the tournament is part of it.

  20. Could absolutely be true. Guess I’m more of an old school “till death do us part” kinda guy. People’s words don’t expire in my world, do they in yours? The numbers/“grind” are the same on the east side of Indy as they are on the west side.

  21. If you do not feel well, stay home. If you want to wear a mask and social distance, feel free. Get rid of contact tracing. Open the gates. Voila.

  23. I guess your best team in school history getting curb stomped by Roncalli in the tournament tends to change your priorities. I wish him well but “coach speak” needs it’s own dictionary these days. In 2017, he needed a break from “the grind” and wanted to “work with smaller numbers of kids.” I like Mike and have never heard anyone utter a negative word about him. I wish him well. Home run hire for WC.

  24. If you’re laughing at the fact that DT thinks WC’s best days are behind them and Kirschner will guide them to a championship, then I’m laughing with you.

  25. It is a mistake to think of the bowls — other than the playoff games — as anything other than entertainment with a financial goal. What you’ve “earned” during the season by your play is not as important as whether you can deliver TV ratings and tourist dollars for the host city.

  26. There shouldn’t be any talk. The Evansville schools need to play each other in all sports, while schools in the hinterland need to find what’s in their best interest. This applies all over the state. Sure, it would be great to have a Premier League of football teams, but other sports also matter.

  33. The question was about lost athletic department revenue from this season. No one was talking about covid next season. I feel bad that a cranky old man like yourself has such trouble with reading comprehension. I didn’t offer any solutions because I don’t think this will be a problem.
