Yes, the North Central Conference. It stretches from Lafayette/West Lafayette to Richmond, which is roughly 140 miles. Elkhart to Lake Central or Crown Point is about 95-100 miles.

Not sure if they would like those 70 - 90 minute, one way road trips few times a season, time and expense. But I do think they would be a great fit in that conference

If I'm the NLC, I'm not interested in expanding further. 8 is about a perfect number (for football) in my opinion because it allows you to play every conference opponent yet retain the flexibility to schedule 2 non-conference games. If I'm an NLC member, I like where we're at right now. When you go above 8, you lose non-conference opportunities or, if you go above 10, you end up with a messed up conference like the NIC currently is. I think the NIC should focus on trying to form a conference that makes some sense and has some common ties that binds at least some of the schools. Right now it just feels like a group of those 4 different types of schools kind of just coexisting because nobody has something better for them at this point. I'd like to see it evolve into something better but I don't think that happens until Penn and Elkhart decide to do something else.

That's fine. But that is not what I understood @ts32 to be saying. You asked what his post meant and I provided an answer. Doesn't mean he was advocating for or against consolidation of Terre Haute high schools. However, it is an interesting note to make considering the superintendents previous experience. Unforutnately, either way I feel like it is a bad decision for Terre Hatue. Either spend more money when you could save it by consolidating OR put yourself on a huge island (especially in terms of athletics) by being a rather large school out on an island as you point out.

Correct, those three high schools are all part of the same district - Vigo County School Corporation.

I think it just means the school corporation has a superintendent in place that has recent knowledge and experience when it comes to consolidating two high schools into one, especially when you compare the size of the schools in question. Just interesting similiarities is what I took from @ts32 post.

O$U is a school only a "mother could love". They are so easy to dislike.

The first college playoff game I ever officiated was a Juco game at College of DuPage in Illinois. They were a national power, and were crushing the visitors late in the game when their linebacker intercepted a pass on the visitors’ sideline, went out of bounds, and got drilled very late. He got up looking for somebody and all hell broke loose. It happened right in front of me, so when the two guys squared off, I got between them. By this time, they had each other by the facemasks. They were both about 6’3” and 230#. I put a hand on each player’s chest, and shoved them apart ... of course, they didn’t actually move. Not so much as a millimeter. That’s when I knew I was in trouble. We were at the center of a seething mass of people. I realized my feet weren’t actually touching the ground. The mass moved all the way out of the bench area and on to the track, and me along with it. When order was finally restored, I reported the fouls to the Referee (Tom McCabe, a long time Referee in the MAC). Then he asked me “Where is the out of bounds spot?” I told him I had no idea. His response was “well, you better make something up pretty quick.”

Here is an idea. If Snider wants to compete with big school out of Indy simply leave the SAC. Or close Snider move all the kids to Northrop. Change the name to Snider. Doubles in size. Hell maybe throw in North Side as well. The reason Indy schools beat them, Homestead and Carroll is the size of the schools. Not only will it increase the size of Snider but open up the SAC. 8 Schools again. Now back on topic. Carroll, Homestead, Dwenger, Snider, Concordia, Luers, Northrop, Wayne, North and South

Pay to play? Fundraiser’s? Boosters? Skip new uniforms? Cut coaching stipends? Other options? Mix and match different cost cutting measurements. Everything is on the table. Some will be fine, others will struggle.

I think with the recent realignments that most everyone is happy considering all sports. The only school with some potential buyers remorse over the next few years might be Vincennes. In terms of football, the PAC folks might wish they had a little less non-conference freedom, and some SIAC guys might wish they had a little more.

Have there been studies on the optimal size of a HS? Do 2500-3000 students schools provide a better educational experience than 1,000? 2,000? What about 5,000 students like Carmel? Claiming enrollment is positively correlated with educational experience is a pretty bold claim. And improved schools attracting industry? I’m not even going to begin with that unfounded claim.

You do realize this story was from 2018? Methinks the "colorblind" society we were achieving at the end of the 1900's and in the first decade of the 2000's was obliterated. I believe that is because a big chunk of the black community didn't want colorblindness to happen. One would think that would be considered racism......But I've been given to understand that only white people can be racist.
