  1. In my opinion you get a great view from up top. If you are an OC the top view helps with game day alignments, coverages and depths of the 2nd level players. You can also find the game day "human tendency" Meaning my Jimmy is better than your Joe, so run the ball here or throw the ball there. Or a certain player over runs the flow of the run or jumps a given pass route, Thus you can make your adjustments accordingly to capitalize on these areas. As a DC it helps to know offensive formations, depths, and alignments. I will give our up top coach a list or I will verbalize what to look for and to let me know how the offense flows and their sub patterns or packages they are utilizing on 1st and 3rd downs. And it also helps when we have a weakness on defense and need to make a change due to a player being overmatched physically or dare I say due to lack of effort. So to reinstate my opinion... Up Top Is Good

  3. I'm not quibbling. Indy can be as big as they want to be. I hope Fort Wayne's 'Road to a Million' plan is a total failure. We don't need traffic to get any worse. For the record............I had Indy at 2.1 million and Fort Wayne at 450,000. Depends on the source I guess.

  5. Assuming Luers make some modest level of improvement on defense, I'm not sure they lose to another 2A team. They nearly won it last year even with that defense. The one caveat is if they have to play in a bad-weather game in the playoffs where wind/rain/ice could neutralize their passing game. LCC should be on the list somewhere. Eastern Greene is not even in 2A. Eastbrook had alot of sophomore talent in 2019 and those sophomores should now be seniors. My guess is that they get through the regular season undefeated. Remember EMD being very young last year and it seems like they should be improved from a semi-state appearance if all goes to plan for them. Don't know much about Andrean but they've disappointed me in the tournament the past couple seasons. Also don't know much about what Eastside has coming back but they gave Luers all they wanted in the sectional last season. If they return alot they could be a darkhorse. Another team not on the list that I will keep an eye on is Scecina.

  7. https://www.insideindianabusiness.com/story/44184553/judge-orders-indiana-to-reinstate-expanded-federal-unemployment INDIANAPOLIS - A Marion County judge on Friday said that the state must reinstate expanded federal unemployment benefits until a final ruling is made in a case filed by a group of people who are unemployed. Judge John Hanley of Marion Superior Court called for a temporary reinstatement of benefits that Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb ended June 19. Hanley found that by rejecting federal benefits, the state is violating Indiana law. He also said the plaintiffs had shown a “reasonable likelihood of success.” Indiana code gives the state the responsibility of securing “all rights and benefits” conferred under certain federal statutes, including those that “deal with the establishment and funding of federal and state unemployment benefits schemes,” Hanley said, and the benefits under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act are funded by those statutes. “Indiana law recognizes the importance of these benefits. Indiana law requires the State to accept these benefits,” Hanley said. The costs incurred by the state to administer those benefits are also covered by the CARES Act, so the balance of harm favors the plaintiffs, as their loss of benefits outweighs any potential harm to the state, Hanley said. Through the CARES Act signed into law in March 2020 by President Donald Trump, the extra unemployment benefits were supposed to last through September, but Holcomb said that extra money would be cut off for Hoosiers. Republican governors in states ending the pandemic benefits have cited workforce shortages and the improving economy as the reasons behind their decisions. The judgment requires the state to immediately notify the U.S. Department of Labor of its continued participation in CARES Act programs until the court makes a final decision in the case, the filing said. These federal programs came to an end in Indiana on June 19: Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC), which provides a $300 weekly add-on to recipients of unemployment insurance. Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), which provides recipients extended benefits after their traditional 26 weeks of unemployment insurance benefits have been exhausted. Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), which provides benefits to individuals who do not normally qualify for unemployment benefits, such as self-employed, gig workers, and independent contractors. Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation (MEUC), which provides a $100 additional weekly benefit for individuals who are eligible for regular unemployment benefits but also earned at least $5,000 in self-employment income. The office of Gov. Holcomb released this statement on Friday evening: “The state of Indiana took the appropriate steps to terminate its participation in federal pandemic unemployment program. The agreement ended on June 19. The Governor and Department of Workforce Development will discuss an immediate appeal of the judge’s order with the Attorney General.” The plaintiffs’ attorneys, Jennifer Terry with Indiana Legal Services and Jeffrey Macey with Macey Swanson, released this statement on Friday: “Continuing the expanded unemployment benefits is meaningful to our clients and Hoosiers across the state who have relied on this assistance throughout the pandemic. While there will be further legal proceedings in this case, we look forward to the state following the judge’s orders to reinstate the benefits for so many in need right now.” The Indiana Democratic Party on Friday afternoon issued this statement: “Federal unemployment benefits – funded by President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan – are helping Hoosier families put the pandemic in the rearview mirror. Still, COVID-19 exposed one glaring problem too many Hoosier workers know: many jobs do not pay a livable wage and force people to work more for less. The responsibility of this unfair reality should fall on the state’s elected leaders who too often are putting their extreme partisanship ahead of common-sense solutions like raising the state’s minimum wage. Democrats know it’s past time to raise worker wages, and we hope Republicans can finally get on board so that a better future can be built for every Hoosier family across Indiana.” Just Great....

  8. Agree 100%.......Hudl Sideline can be a great tool....when it works right, but if the coordinator is in the box, he needs to relay info to position coaches on the field. Even with the sideline program, a d line coach is not going top be able to review with defensive backs. Or, if the coordinator is on the field, you have position coaches in the press box. a DB coach will focus on the pass routes run or what receivers are doing for an opponent, while a line coach will focus on the run game and blocking. Both will track them to see how plays align with tendencies. Another perspective is that the college and pro levels have this technology and still use coaches in the press box.

  9. They are two completely separate things. Hudl sideline is a great review tool to see what happened last play. A coach up top is a spotter to help with the next play (players running on/off the field, is the ref marking the OOB spot short of the first down, etc.) That is good to hear. Trying to force Hudl Sideline into a replay system is asking it to do something it was not designed to do. On the goal line, I will take a properly positioned referee over any video camera angle from the endzone or midfield.

  10. I can tell you that having an experienced coach in the box is invaluable. Hudl sideline is a luxury not all can afford, and in some instances it's not needed. Being able to see the game live, and in real time, and then providing instant feedback is huge. Speaking from my own experience I'd rather ask a question and get an answer. Another thing to consider is coaches don't always have time to look down at an ipad in the middle of a game. It's a freaking sweet tool though.

  11. I will rephrase my tongue-in-cheek comment. One P/P team will eliminated quickly from the tournament, which I think is the IHSAA’s intent. The unintended consequences like you have mentioned are why I agree it would be a bad thing for football in the state. As it is, Chatard must win sectional in 2021 and 2022 or win a regional in one of those years or they would return to 3A.

  12. You say outrageous and unfair. I think Roncalli/Chatard meeting the first round of the sectional means the system is working just as the IHSAA intended. But that’s just me.
