At the risk of upsetting and/or placing those of you whom I have known for years in an "uncomfortable situation". I've tried my best to NOT comment on this situation. As we deal with 'education based athletics', it is apparent to THIS man; A focus on the totality of AMERICAN HISTORY and how it has been given a pass that has never taught in any way that has given any focus on the individuals/races/societies that have been the brunt of the inequality of the "American Ethos" at any time other than 2 short lived times in American History (Reconstruction and 1965-1980), an approach with our educational system that could perhaps EDUCATE our children on the reasons why certain activities, utterances, and behaviors need to be a part of the reason that we as "Americans" need to understand that we are a UNIQUE society in today's world. I have always been surprised at the multi-racial composition of the children in the State of Indiana. When I began this thing called "officiating" I can recall being at sites where I was the ONLY minority at the contest. Today, that almost NEVER happens! And I only see UNIFORMS....not the racial component of the players. If I ever do that, then that will be the day I quit! I can promise you that!!!! On a personal level: Ask yourselves... Do YOU know, I mean KNOW an individual of a race/culture/sexual-persuasion in a deeply person level.? If not, then you only are an acquaintance! Once you can understand the personal feelings and reasons that they may differ from your beliefs, and the ACCEPT those and STILL be a friend...only at that time can you truly (in your heart and soul) be a person that is in eyes of the Lord and Savior, a person that is understanding and acceptable of ALL God's Children. The young man from Center Grove, (IMO) is not indicative of that program, School Corporation or anything else related in anyway/shape or form. But to also think that there are not some individuals within the Westfield community who also may have the same thoughts BEYOND their support for the Shamrocks, is foolish. We are ALL better than this in 2021... This young man has ruined his current situation, and perhaps things beyond that. That is a fact. But please, let's not devolve into a "Holier Than Though" situation that has no answers to what we should all hope for as Hoosiers, and Americans! Seek iout those that are not within your preview, and understand their lives/situations/experiences. You might find that they are a lot like you. Just my .02 From the bottom of my heart.....

I realize that to most high school football fans the season ended after the Center Grove - Westfield game. However, for this guy it is just a start to the "best time of the year". Starting with Wednesday nights Alabaster (AL) Thompson - Phenix City (AL) Central game, I must have watched all of or portions of twenty plus high school games on NFHS. For those of you who don't want to watch Army-Navy next weekend, I suggest you fork down $10 for a subscription and watch all the high school football you want. Once the season is over, it is easy to cancel your subscription. A few thoughts as I wind down the weekend: - Some states, Arizona being the most prominent, have created an "Open" Division playoff system. What I mean is that they take the best eight teams in that state and those teams are in a separate playoff while all others play in the tournament based on enrollment. For years Arizona would have several teams in different classes claiming to be the best in the state, now they actually settle it on the field. Rhode Island, which has four teams in its "Open Division", takes it a step further by allowing the losing teams in the first round to drop into the Division I tournament. May sound crazy but they do not have any arguments who the best team is at the end of the season. - Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei is two touchdowns better than anyone in the country. They play this coming weekend in the Open Championship against a very good San Mateo Serra team, but it should be a formality for the team that has beaten Anaheim Servite (twice), St. John Bosco and Corona Centennial. And if you thought Byrce Young was good for Alabama yesterday, wait until you see sophomore starting quarterback they have this year. - Congrats to Bobref, as his Eagles won the Division 1 tournament in Ohio. They beat some very good teams along the way in one of the nations' toughest tournament brackets. - For some reason, Texas teams just appear to be bigger and faster than teams in other states. Caught a few minutes of the Duncanville-DeSoto game last night and was really impressed with Duncanville' size and speed. By the way, Mater Dei beat them 45-3 earlier in the season in Texas. - Finally, how do I think Center Grove would fare against these teams. I think their defense could hold their own, but don't know if their offense is powerful enough to win a shootout against teams like Collins Hill (GA), Austin (TX) Westlake and others that are ranked in the Top 20 in the country. It would have been great to see them against a Lakewood St. Edwards team, but it never came to fruition, so we will never know.

Well said. I'm not sure I would invoke deities, but I agree with what you are trying to focus on. People are people, and we are all mature enough to know that within any group of people there are some bad apples. Undoubtedly, this instance will be a learning experience for all involved, in particular the youth. Yes, this is a football board. The great thing about the Texas finals are they all are televised on Bally Sports. Have not got a chance to watch Austin Westlake play this year, but they must be loaded and will be interesting to watch them play.

Michigan does a fine job, although Minnesota is actually better in the B1G. But Michigan’s football team is right behind Northwestern. “Michigan set an all-time record high report with a four-year average GSR of 95 percent, which is 14 percentage points higher than it was in 2010 and one point higher than last year. U-M's four-year rolling average FGR of 81 percent tied its all-time high from the 2020, 2017 and 2018 reports. Among Big Ten Conference institutions, Michigan had the third-highest GSR at 95 and the third-best FGR score of 81.” Notre Dame has led the nation in GSR for 14 straight years.

The rule has been waived for a handful of basketball games over the years. I get the issue with the rule, but there are inconsistencies in it. Angola HS could play a game in Northern Alabama, but a team in Evansville would only be able to go the same distance in that direction. I could see adjustments to it. About 15 years ago, Cathedral was in the Herbstreit Classic at Nippert Stadium. There was a team from Mission Viejo, CA that was part of it as well. The people in charge wanted the two teams to play. Even though MV had traveled to Cincinnati, the rule still applied and Cathedral could not play them. Things like that I do not get. Maybe someday we will see changes, especially considering a team could potentially travel 300 miles and stay in State to play a game.

Then you're in good company with Notre Dame and Michigan. Many fans are unaware of this and most probably don't care, but Michigan rivals any Power Five program not named Notre Dame, Northwestern, or Stanford when it comes to academic standards for student athletes. Looking forward to it.

I mean he did coin some third string QB who had 11 pass attempts in November “the chosen one”. He often seems to have all the answers, so why would this be any different?

The rules analyst also spoke of this too. He would be very surprised if this issue wasn't reviewed and changed. Bending the rules? Sure. Breaking the rules as of now? Nope. Potential safety issue for a QB that attempts this again? ABSOLUTELY. Happy for Coach Harbaugh and his team.

I do not officiate college football. The rules analyst on the game last night said it was a missed call and wished the crew would have blown it dead once the QB's hips went downward (what they are taught to look for). HS football, as Bob said, nothing.

I know Allen well ... some of my tax dollars, I lived in Allen before moving to Indiana, are tied up in that stadium.

I would have to see before he went to Evansville Memorial as Principal. He also was at St. Ed's later in his ministry life.

Alabama loses to Georgia today as expected. One of three potential upsets occur. Either Michigan, Oklahoma State, or Cincinnati go down. Notre Dame is propelled into the playoffs. Excited about the hiring of their beloved defensive coordinator at head coach, the return of Kyle Hamilton, and the fact that every assistant coach said, "no, we'd rather stay at Notre Dame than go to LSU," the Irish play with tons of emotion and upset the Bulldogs in Round 1. That momentum continues and propels the Irish to national champions. Does Marcus Freeman automatically get graced with a statue of his honor as a championship coach? Or does the university wait a few years just to make sure he's not a complete flop at the position. The making of this team began well before Freeman's time at Notre Dame. I'm just wondering if the statue gets erected if the Irish with the championship this year.

Quoting this to share again. The generalized comment by @DanteEstonia is exactly the kind of nonsense we will avoid here. It served no purpose in the conversation whatsoever. The guidelines were clear, as were the consequences. As far as Gonzo's comment, my first thought was that the pictures in the story showed other kids on the bus, and the fact that one other kid took the picture. I did not take his comment to mean that others did the black face thing. From hearing from others, I also do not believe that he implied the coaches or adults on the bus knew of it happening or allowed it. Every program has its share of knuckleheads. The hope for each of us is that our knuckleheads don't do something that ends up on social media. @Grover thank you for sharing the posts about the young men in the program. I have no doubt that Coach Moore and his staff do things the right way, and that this will be no exception in how they handle this teachable moment. What does get lost in the story is the response by Popeye Williams; a very classy response to a difficult thing to see. The stories about the CG players reaching out to him as well deserves to be mentioned as well; props to those young men.

If you are simply saying that because there were other kids on the bus then say that. Your comment reads like there were other kids who painted their faces black. There wasn't and you know it. Sounds like you aren't familiar with CUB in the EVSC. My post didn't mention and has nothing to do with AAU. All the post is saying is that 7th and 8th grade schedules (like Heritage Hill does) for both football (analogous to basketball), is the best model and that if everyone was on the same model that would be beneficial to everyone.

TigerFan, I am originally from Jasper and use to go to all of the games but since moving I lost track of the team. I just want to thank you and another fan from Memorial for all of your coverage of the SIAC. It has helped me to stay connected to something important to me. I’ve been reading your stuff all year long and it is really insightful and well done. Maybe I’ll get down there sometime for a memorial jasper game and buy you a few beers before. thanks!!!
