Congrats to Bishop Chatard who earned the overall State champion, but fell short on going to Sizzler, I mean Bob's Steak & Chop https://footballfoundation.org/news/2025/2/4/football-hemet-high-school-ca-announced-as-2025-recipient-of-the-nff-hatchell-cup-presented-by-bobs-steak-chop-house.aspx2 points

I’m a firm believer in chasing your dreams … but always have a Plan B. Jack Kiser’s a great example. He’s taking his shot at the NFL. But he is prepared for bigger and better things after his playing days are over.2 points

Anyone’s guess but between 15K-20K in immigrants. Again anyone’s guess 50%-70% illegals. Three- four-five families living in one house/apartment. So no tax base to pay for their social infrastructure, including schooling. Seymour is nearing 45% Hispanic enrollment. And of those, I have been told less than 30% speak or read English. It’s not a problem unique to Seymour, but it has put an increasing strain on our social infrastructure. My guess is Seymour is 6A in Football within the next two counts. Unfortunately Hispanics don’t really gravitate towards Football, so we’re competing at the 6A level with a mid-4A enrollment. One caveat, things have clearly changed in the last two weeks. I was speaking to a local business owner today and he told me there’s clearly something going on, we aren’t seeing Hispanics in here in the last couple of weeks.1 point

As I understand it, the prohibition applies only to players while participating in the game. Keep in mind, “player” is a defined term in the rules. Rule 2-32-1: “A player is one of the 22 team members who is designated to start either half of the game or who subsequently replaces another player. A player continues to be a player until a substitute enters the field and indicates to the player that he is replaced, or when the substitute otherwise becomes a player.” A kid in uniform on the sidelines is not a “player.”1 point

I'm really not sure what to say about Penn (and Elkhart). The old two-division NIC offered Penn a lot of scheduling flexibility. I think, don't hold me to it, but I think Penn and Carmel were slated to start up again prior to the implosion of the NIC's small-school division. For now, it seems Penn has chosen to stick with Valpo and Mishawaka––both fine programs in their own right––which would be a defensible decision if they played a schedule that was rounded out with seven games against 6A opponents instead of six games against mostly underachieving 5A, 4A, and 3A programs plus the one run with Elkhart. I don't think this is the reason Penn would be perceived as a second tier 6A program. I think we'd all agree Penn's high-water mark was from about 1995-2002, give or take, but, despite carrying on for another 15 years within arms reach of that level, they really fell off following the 2017 season––notwithstanding a handful of nasty results in the tournament/state finals during that stretch. I think you could explain away the handful of bad results in the tournament from 2003-2017, but Penn's struggles throughout the last six seasons certainly give the impression that Penn has slid all the way into a second tier of 6A football. Outside of taking CP to the wire in 2023, they've had nothing to hang their hat on coming out of games against peer competition. They absolutely have to find a way to increase the quality of the reps that guys are getting throughout their years in the program––which, to me, is the thing that has separated the central Indiana 6As from the rest.1 point

I've worked for some of those administrators. People have a hard time believing this.1 point

I brought that up last year in the REF forum I believe, still have yet to see any scientific studies that has shown in 2025 that the knee pad size they are having reps sell us that circle about the size of a Coke Can prevents tearing of ligaments of knees. Texas HS Football, which has been a NON NFHS state, (NCAA) has been going just fine without them1 point

I’m not sure they will be able to replicate the game they played Friday night in West Lafayette the rest of the year . im not confident they can win a game the rest of the way . Seriously maybe home vs Penn State (whose falling off a cliff ) , and cellar dweller Washington (but that’s on the road) so who knows . again I worry about the environment Saturday at Assembly Hall with Michigan coming to town . First off they are a nightmare match up . Wolfe too big and strong to guard with Goode or Mgbako . Too athletic and perimeter oriented to guard with Reneau . 2nd well you know a young talented coach who is having immediate success who is now coaching a conference rival . Over under on student section chants of “fire Mike Woodson” “we want Dusty” . It’s gonna be a bad bad bad look . I just can’t fathom Dolson not saying ANYTHING between now and Saturday . Unless nuclear level implosion of the program is the only way the BOT allows him to move on at the end of the season? I’ve said I’m perfectly fine letting him finish the season , I think it’s probably the best look for the program but you HAVE to calm down the fan base by letting them know . This is it . It will be over in a month best for all parties involved and you have to sit Woodson down and make him understand that it’s so frustrating as a fan . Everything today is set up in a way that you’ll never have to endure the Crean 3 year rebuild . and I could care less about anything relating to a new coach . Past , Present , age , where he from , what “baggage” he has. 1 thing and 1 thing only a winner period .1 point

Probably a dumb question, but why is there such an emphasis on knee pads being worn? You look at any level above high school and there are very few players that even wear them anymore. The pads themselves do little to prevent knee injuries.1 point

No different than now other than the fact we now have a real reason to bag fumbles behind the LOS. There aren't that many in a season. Remember by definition a backward pass isn't a fumble so you still won't bag that behind the line of scrimmage. And a snap is by definition a backward pass. They are fumbles in the stat book, but stats guys use different rules. I think a muffed punt recovered by the kicking team is considered a fumble.1 point

Maybe I'm bias, but I'd imagine this is a VERY attractive job. Winning culture, community support and a school that has elevated its athletics programs the last 15+ years and going in a great direction. Coupled with the industry boom in the district NP is set up for long-term success. Really a program that is built to win right away. No clue if there are any assistants wanting the gig but there are a couple that I'd imagine are front-runners. Will be interesting to see who is hired.1 point

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tuesday, February 4, 2025 Casey McKim Catches Lowell Football, Head Coach Position Lowell Red Devils hire their third leader in 35 years! LOWELL, Indiana - Coach Casey McKim will lead the Lowell Red Devil football program into the 2025 season after five years and a 48-17 winning record as head coach of New Prairie High School. Being selected by a committee of stakeholders representing a broad cross section of the Lowell community, McKim intends to build upon the community’s proud past and embrace the mantra of Red Devil Pride. A man of high expectations, Casey McKim possesses incredible football knowledge and laser-light focus as evidenced by winning four consecutive 4A Sectional Championships, two Regional Championships, and two IHSAA Semi-State appearances. In 2022, the success included the IHSAA Class 4A State Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Coach McKim is no stranger to the state championship arena. Prior to his time at New Prairie, McKim served as Offensive Coordinator when Valparaiso High School made their bid for the state championship run in 2019. Coach believes football is a great teacher of life lessons by developing teamwork, integrity, perseverance, dedication, and selflessness. Additionally, football extends beyond the team itself to families, the school, and the community. In the words of Coach McKim “My dream is to be a head football coach that creates a championship program at the highest level, while developing young men of character who will be great leaders, husbands, and fathers when they leave our program”. In 2021 and 2022, Coach McKim received IFCA Coach Of the Year honors and has been a position coach in 3A, 5A, and 6A schools. Coach McKims’ message to the entire Lowell community: “I am humbled and honored to be a part of RDP!” Despite the current challenges due to significant budget reduction, Tri-Creek Schools was able to hire Coach McKim at no additional cost to the district through attrition and restructuring. Coach McKim will transition to his new football role after school hours effective immediately with full-time teaching beginning August 2025. Advice to current players: Your path to the MAC/FCS might first go through NAIA or D2 Your path to Pow5 might first go through MAC/FCS Overall advice, if playing on Sunday isn't feasible due to factors outside of your control (e.g. genetics)...maybe pick a school based upon the career options your degree might be able provide you...instead of worrying about NIL. All of this aside....Miami is getting a heck of a player.1 point
