  1. There's only a small time window after you post that you can actually edit the post ... maybe about 10 minutes or so tops ... then it ends up being "locked." You kind of have to figure out you want to add or change something almost right after you post it. Also, the edit button changed from under your post to over in the corner of the post by in the ellipses (...).
  2. Looks like Harrison's freshman are going to play West Central's JV squad tomorrow. While it's not a perfect scenario, the freshman are getting a chance to play some guys that are somewhat bigger and also have some playing experience under their belt, so I think it provides a better alternative that just sitting idle over the weekend.
  3. I'd venture a guess that might depend on the school, the coach, a combination of both, and possibly even the classification, etc. ... and that idea may very well be true by the time the kids get to 7th/8th grade where the benefit of running varsity schemes, etc. is more likely to pays off with results. On the other hand, LCC's only had one period in the last two decades where a kid would have seen the same varsity coach that was there when they played 3rd/4th grade ball. Again, there have been six coaches and an interim across 18 years. Coach O'Shea was at LCC for half that time. And he was one of the coaches that specifically told us that he liked what we were doing and that he'd rather us focus on the fundamentals rather than trying to match the varsity schemes and that he'd take care of the formations, scheme, and plays when he got them in high school. Coach O'Shea's first state titles at LCC came from kids that had developed their skills with other coaches/schemes at the helm in the varsity ranks. A kid that would have been in 5th grade the first year that Coach O'Shea coached at LCC would have been a freshman in Coach O'Shea's 4-peat team.
  4. I'm not sure aligning the youth program plays, etc. is a necessity for success. I think it's much more about creating an environment that draws kids in and sustains kids playing over time. In my 18 seasons of coaching youth ball at LCC, I officially retired this season, I have seen six head coaches and an interim coach. Every time we'd get a new coach, we'd ask the question if there's anything they wanted us specifically to be teaching the kids in the program. It always came down to safe procedures, understanding the proper way to do things, why we do things, and stoking their continued interest in the game; keeping them engaged until their bodies and skill caught up with their enthusiasm for the game. Even had a couple of them specifically state that, given the nature of the game, there's no guarantee that what the high school was running when the player was in 3rd grade would be the same six years later ... or that the coach might be different too. I think there is a move afoot now to do things like use similar nomenclature as the high school, but that still isn't the same as offensive schemes, defensive schemes, etc. A colleague of mine that also coached in the youth league with me for many years broke down the idea of the successful feeder program ... at least based on how we did it at LCC. All the teams, 3rd/4th, 5th/6th, junior high, and high school practice on the same stretch of land with the 3rd/4th closest to the school and moving successively out. He told me that our main job was to keep those kids engaged/involve and learning the game so that they would move from here to there to there to there and eventually to there on Friday nights *gesturing from the 3rd/4th grade practice area to the 5th/6th grade practice area to the junior high practice area to the high school practice area to the varsity field*. He said, however, the most important aspect of that was not the kids, but to also get their moms to move in that progression as well because we had to make sure that we were providing something that they were comfortable with regarding safety, fun, and ROI for the family time spent with the player playing.
  5. I'd also be interested in the longer term impact. It's one thing to say that someone is more likely to twist a knee, etc. playing on the turf, but is there anything fundamental that wears on the joints, impacts ligaments, etc. in playing on turf from a younger age?
  6. I was looking mainly at the difference, as Tipton also plays Western and Heights as they all belong to Hoosier Conference East. The other difference could be WL, which is a crossover HC game this year for Cass. But Cass will likely get either RCHS or LCC ... or both ... next season, so it tends to be a similar tradeoff from season to season.
  7. These are two of the three 2A schools in the Hoosier Conference, but they are in different divisions ... RCHS in the West and Cass in the East. I'm assuming the difference between Tipton not being on the list and Cass being on it, from the East, is that Cass plays Pioneer and South Adams while Tipton's two non-conference opponents are Elwood and Heritage Christian. Of interest is that Cass's opponents that are making it a tougher schedule are a pair of tough 1A classified school even though Pioneer is serving time in 2A under SF. RCHS gets LCC and West Lafayette this year, and every year, from within the conference.
  8. Wow! Looks like Tipton could end up the big dog in the HC this season?
  9. 1 Point Games · Northwestern @ Cass · Twin Lakes @ Benton Central · West Lafayette @ Rensselaer · Western @ Hamilton Heights 3 Point Games · Central Catholic @ Tipton · Muncie Central at Tech … if we are going Lawrenceburg @ Tech · Traders Point @ Frontier · Delphi @ Tri Central · Fountain Central @ Attica · Sullivan @ South Vermillion · Hammond Noll @ Lake Station
  10. I ain't gonna lie ... while I share your confusion as to the strange change in schedule, that's going to be a cool match-up for Harrison. I'm hoping its across all the levels as my son plays on the freshman team for Harrison and that weekend was vacant due to the recent Muncie Central quarantine. Also looks like it's going to be a home game for Harrison, so I'll maybe get a chance to see that one ... and maybe even both varsity and freshman if all levels are scheduled.
  11. Just varsity or all levels? My son is on the Harrison freshman team and he said that the game with Muncie Central had been cancelled, but I don't know if they had found a freshman opponent yet.
  12. Fixed that for you. 😀 Lord, I apologize for that.
  13. This is one of the predecessors to Harrison High School in West Lafayette. Back in 1970, Harrison HS had its first year after merging Klondike High, Battleground High, and East Tipp High. Those three names still remain as feeder middle schools into Harrison ... East Tipp Middle School, Battleground Middle School, and Klondike Middle School.
  14. 1 Point Games Benton Central @ Western Hamilton Heights @ Northwestern Cass @ Tipton 2 Point Games Central Catholic @ West Lafayette Munster @ Rensselaer Sheridan @ Delphi if this game is being replaced by Delphi @ North Montgomery, then I'll take North Montgomery West Central @ Culver LaVille @ Winamac 3 Point Games Knox @ North Judson Harrison @ Lafayette Jeff Tech @ Logansport McCutcheon @ Kokomo
  15. Didn't want any evidence of the mugging that's about to take place? Lord, I apologize for that.

  18. Wonder if they should experiment with a "pay what you feel it is worth" model ... especially because it sounds like the quality isn't consistent across games, locales, announcers, etc. Someone who pays $10.00 and doesn't like the experience due to dropouts, camera work, etc. may not tune in a second time; however, but if they get the option to pay what they think the experience is worth, they might pay $4 this game and might come back again and, if things are improves, they might pay more next time or pay the same $4 they paid before. Yes, there will be cheapskates who pay nothing, but they probably weren't part of folks that were going to pay in a $10 model anyway. Biggest issue would be do the schools incur costs in providing the feed that they have to at least break even? If so, sponsorships or advertising costs could possibly handle that so that proceeds go to the school. I think, if the schools were also smart, they might also employ some of their kids to make announcements throughout the games thanking folks for their support, talking about what the experience to play ... even in a limited fashion ... means to them, etc. That might also open up some wallets for donations as well that might end up yielding more funds than operating under a $10+ model.
  19. Yep ... I think the site was down last night and this morning things looked different.

  22. The newer release of the site seems to be less mobile-friendly than the previous version. I found that replying to posts on my phone and iPad are problematic; however, doing it on my PC is fine. The aesthetics from the PC side are fine and, might be more perception, but the site response seems a bit faster.
  23. Was watching a college game last night and the announcers mentioned that Tennessee had been unable to scrimmage on Saturday as they had over 40 players out ... although not all were COVID-related. Was thinking about that with regard to sports betting and pick 'ems. Sometimes the injury of a skill position or cornerstone player can impact the bet/pick and that news is typically readily available. On the other hand, the COVID report tends to be relatively low-key or potentially non-existent to the public and, even when it is, due to privacy issues, it rarely mentions players by name/position ... which makes sense, but makes sports betting and pick 'ems more problematic as you are dealing with a lot more unknowns.
