  1. First - Illinois has 526 football playing schools (according to CalPreps). Only 256 make their playoffs (8 classes of 32) Second - P/P do play in the IHSA Playoffs (not the 'tournament' as the IHSAA calls it.) Teams without defined boundaries - like P/P's, Charters, and the like get hit with a multiplier which is 1.65 Class 1A and 5A both kicked off at 10 AM Central the Friday/Saturday after Thanksgiving. And since Indiana swears it's an Eastern Time Zone state, it's possible for a 9AM kickoff for a central time school. While it's a privilege to play for the state title - 9 or 10 AM just seems a bit much - especially for a team to unload underneath LOS and hit the field for pre-game warm ups. Not really interested.
  2. 5A had Dwenger in it- then retroactively put in 4A. 4A started with 63 teams - then FWBD petitioned to drop. Dominoes fell and three sectionals in 4A were shuffled. I would imagine 32 in 6A and 5A. Logic says (which means it won't happen) - each bottom 4 class should be around 62-63 each to allow for yo-yo's now that the Success Factor can drop in off-cycle years.
  3. @WCGrad92 Are the red, orange, or brown considered a north sectional? 2A, 4 and 5A seem to have an abundance of 'north' teams and very few in the south. Southmont, Muncie Central (4A) and Harrison/McCutcheon (5A) all came through the south last year. I know that's the way the distribution shakes out, just seems odd to me.
  4. Thanks for all those who have attempted to divide. Very interesting around the cut lines. Guerin and Jay County both have 800. North Montgomery, Western Boone, and Benton Central all have 513. I know there is a tie breaker, but I just think it would be tough to split schools with identical enrollments into different classes. But I don’t have to make those decisions
  5. The other thing that Illinois does is that despite seeding - They still decide home/away the same manner as Indiana. For example, 1 seed hosts 8. 4 seed hosts 5. If 5 beats 4, they would host the 1 in the second round as a round 1 non-host. If 4 wins, then both 1/4 were hosts, so 1 would host because seed is tiebreaker. That might discourage some coach sandbagging to manipulate seeds
  6. I get that they do it for wrestling - an individual sport. But when would you and @jets propose the meeting? Saturday morning after week 9? That could be possible in 1-4A, but would be much easier in 5 & 6 where you would still have two weeks to prepare.
  7. It’s not a playoff. It’s a tournament. The IHSAA stresses that distinction. But they also stress that it’s for the kids and then charge $10 for a regional game so….
  8. Yes it's corporation enrollment, at least the original article was referencing that. Here are the first three schools from the DOE database: Adams Central: 1,360 North Adams: 1,579 South Adams: 1,308 I would love to be a fly on the wall at a board meeting where the folks of Adams County discuss the ONE school corporation that will exist after all 3 consolidate.
  9. Agree on all counts. And also why I said "should there" not "would there" be two Clay Township schools. Maybe if they named the existing campus Prada Carmel and the new campus Carmel Chanel they would go for it? (Only joking.)
  10. Thanks. To be honest, I feel like the discussion might have even been around the time Fishers HS became a 9-12 building. Have I really been around the board that long? (Nobody answer that) To bring it back to the original premise, a minimum size might make sense, but I also think a maximum size should be discussed. Does Carmel educate students better than HSE/Fishers? Should there be two HS in Clay township?
  11. I think I read on here a long time ago (pre-Covid even) that OH had a rule that high schools could not be over a certain size (2,500 comes to mind) without building another one. I have tried to find an actual law or rule but can't seem to find one. We need @Bobref our resident OH expert to chime in.
  12. Anybody who thinks lobbying for certain alignments doesn't happen is only fooling themselves. Agree completely. For as much as I would hate to find out Saturday night/ Sunday morning who my opponent was next Friday, the efficiency of classifying and seeding is such a stark contrast to the all-in ping pong ball tournament.
  13. If memory serves. That seems about normal SOP. Enrollments are released mid February but they release football, volleyball, and both basketball sectionals the same time late April. Basketball SF points will need to be updated following the state tournament this year.
  14. Two national awards are easy for Catholic schools. That's effectively 3.5 national awards at a public school.
  15. The more I look at their roster and who will be returning - along with a definite QB1 under center - I think Castle will be extremely tough next year.
  16. I’m out of reactions… but that made me spit out my drink. This is the content I am here for! 🤣 That form reminds me of the episode of Curb your Enthusiasm where Larry David stops a baptism because he thinks it’s an attempted drowning.
  17. Now that I think about it. Catholic schools are at a disadvantage. The Protestant practice of adult baptism by immersion would teach MUCH better tackling form than the Catholic sacrament.
  18. Once again. You hear what you want to hear. And nothing will change your mind to the contrary.
  19. I think the OP accidentally put Cathedral in 6A and 4A in the first two posts. Then QB coach moved up the "largest" school in each class to accommodate. Notice Guerin (3A/4A cut line) and Centerville (2A/3A line) are moved just like Providence (largest 1A but 2A in the sectional alignment projection.) That's why those projections are fun to discuss but FAR from anything official. *Question* Does IHSAA set 6A (32) then 5A (32) - then evenly divide the bottom 4 classes? Or do they set 64-64-64-60ish in 1A? I don't think there are 320+ football schools which would mean 1A gets 64 then additional teams added at 5a?
  20. Wow. Total brain fart moment on my part. I used to joke about the two years or so where Knox, Pike, and Dubois were all central before voting to move back to eastern. The voting public roundly proclaimed ‘We tried progress (Central) … but didn’t like it.’ 😀
  21. Agree on the fall count vs spring count issue. Way too early to worry about it. Salem and Charlestown (up to 4A) could really shake up the SE Indiana sectional. Washington and Bosse are right on the 3/4 cut line as well as WeBo, North Montgomery, and Centerville are close to 2/3A. Those schools could change the groupings for what was 29/30 and 31/32 in the last classifications. I do not think West Vigo will placed in the "southwest" sectional again and highly unlikely Owen Valley is either. They will almost certainly be grouped with Edgewood. Personally I would love to see Bosse go down to 3A setting up an all CENTRAL time sectional. Mt Vernon, Memorial, Mater Dei, Gibson Southern, Princeton, Heritage Hills, Southridge, and Bosse.
  22. Agreed. I’m curious about the timeframe as well. Fishers has only been a school for 15 years or so. Pretty short lifespan to be considered dynastic over a school like Ev Reitz.
  23. That was my interpretation as well. Sectionals will now be "annual" placements for football. (And maybe other sports as well?) This year's Dwenger to 4A and resulting 3-sectional shuffle occurred mid-season.

  25. Does Coach Goebel remain as the longest tenured head coach in the SIAC? Or has 40+ years patrolling the sidelines as an coordinator/HC come to an end? I would hate for an unsuccessful two point conversion against 12(!) defenders to be his last play call as a coach.
