@Football Fanatic Great info. I agree with your assessment on Tilly. I've heard rumors from both sides of town that Castle, along with Reitz and North, have some great young QB talent in the 8th/9th grades. (Rising freshmen and sophomore.) I can't say that I followed cub/freshmen games closely enough to say if that is valid info or not.

The play occurs at +2:25:25 mark (there is -1:25:30 on the right hand side for the amount of time remaining in the video.) I'm not an official, don't want to be one, but here is my interpretation of the play. I would think the call should have been defensive holding, which as the officials above have mentioned, was an almost impossible call to see. The play-action fooled the defense and all indications were it was a run play. The QB pulled and fired a quick slant to the single receiver. The receiver broke in front of the outside LB who grabbed the jersey with his left (inside) hand. To the referee on that side, he sees the LB's right (outside) hand in a legal guarding position and I don't think any foul occurs with that hand, IMO. The back judge would have been keying the strong (3 receiver) side. The only person who could have seen the tug by the LB with the inside hand would have been the umpire. With the run action and line movement, you can see on the video he follows the ball but by the time his head turns he would not have seen the contact that occurred prior to the pass being thrown. Apologies to the officials who read this for my most likely improper description of mechanics and keys. I would label several other things during the game (non-officiating related) egregious before I would consider that play as having an impact on the outcome.

Yes. I believe the Pioneer League (Butler, Valpo, and formerly UE) and Ivy Leagues are the non-scholarship FCS leagues. The Patriot League used to be non-scholarship but now has a smaller number of scholarships than the NCAA maximum but I don't know exactly how many.

Thanks for the clarification. And I am guessing there must have been ties for DB as well. That 3-4-6 Defense would be tough to score on! LOL

@Titan32 I'm unfamiliar with the process now that the PAC has small/big divisions. They do not do 1st Team/2nd team, but rather All Conference/Honorable Mention? And in situations where there are two names - Center for example. Does that represent a tie vote so both were named? Thanks in advance. Oh... and Congratulations to all the young men named!

Enrollment Numbers Updated

All this talk of moving up. I will be Mr. Negative. Who is moving down? I would assume rural schools, or those communities on an island without much surrounding growth? Over the last few classifications we have seen Owen Valley and Martinsville drop in the southern half of the state. I think Crawford County was 3A but has dropped to 2A as well. Will the EIAC "big school" division be mostly 3A schools now? Without much knowledge of individual communities, just speculation, but maybe South Dearborn, Madison, Pike Central, Brownstown and Sullivan drop? -

Zionsville is the other school that I keep hearing about as far as movement. If they go up to 6A along with Harrison as @foxbat mentioned, that means at least 1 must come down. (I think there were only 31 in 6A?) -
Brady Allen: Mr. Football case

I was quite impressed with Hauser and LaBelle of Mt Vernon in the 4A game earlier. The blowout nature of the 4A game did require him to take over like he did in the regional and SS games, but 80yds, 2 TD’s and 9 tackles is a solid game. The ability of Hauser and LaBelle to play both ways at such a high level is an amazing feat, IMO. -
Agree that it was a fun year in the SIAC. I hoped VL and Castle could have made it 4 sectional titles. Two regionals and one semi state title is nothing to complain about though. It’s too early to think about next year until closer to the summer. No idea who might not come back for their senior year or end up moving to Ft Branch.

State Championship Predictions
oldtimeqb replied to Football Fanatic's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Thanks. I did not know that. College teammate of mine once got flagged for celebrating a TD by running to the student section, removing his helmet, and cheering with his fraternity brothers. The 15 yards was nothing compared to the penalty enforced by the S&C coach on Monday. Lol -

Removing your helmet on the field in celebration is not a penalty? -

I’m getting shades of the 2008 CG- Carmel force out play all over again. -
2A State Championship: Mater Dei vs Andrean

Thanks for the clarification. It’s the ‘illegal action’ only part that I disagree with - and I know they didn’t ask my opinion. Perhaps that’s a new defensive strategy? First tackler secure the tackle. Second tackler try to punch the ball loose. Third man headlock the helmet and get the WR/RB out for the next play. (Said tongue in cheek of course.) -

I still don’t understand how a defender can pull off an opponent’s helmet on a tackle - and still the player has to go off for a play. If it’s a player safety issue, I don’t see why the tackler is allowed to grab the helmet with no penalty. -
Which programs do the most with less
oldtimeqb replied to BTF's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
FRL rate tells you about the student population. Is there a good measure of community socioeconomic status- something like the local RE tax base? Doesn’t the local property tax fund the public HS. I’m not disagreeing with you, just thinking out loud. Both would presumably move in direct relation, I’m just wondering is there a way to find if the school is well-funded even if some students who attend come from lower income households?
