2A Regional: Mater Dei @ Triton Central
oldtimeqb replied to MDAlum82's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
This is where I wish the IHSAA would step in and apply a little more control. Here is straight from the Illinois (IHSA) website: A majority of first and second round games in Illinois are still played Friday night. But it allows East St. Louis to drive to Chicago for a first round game (happened in 2018). Indiana is slightly at a disadvantage because of the ridiculous Eastern Time Zone issue, so call it 1:30 - 7:30 ET Saturday unless both schools want to switch to Friday. -
Running clock in the playoffs
oldtimeqb replied to Trojanmp52's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I think this is the reason that it should stay 2nd half only. During the regular season, coaches might be reluctant to sub prior to the 3rd quarter to keep a JV team intact. During the postseason, there's no reason Junior Johnny and Sam Sophomore (who will be studs next year, just watch) can't get some meaningful snaps in the first half. This is especially true with a developing QB or RB. Let them work a series or two with the starting OL to see what they can do. -
State Tournament Rules

Wow. Bo Derek has really fallen on hard times. (Or maybe I just misread that last part?) -
State Tournament Rules
oldtimeqb replied to gonzoron's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Agreed. [sarcasm] I would like to see the IHSAA tell Danville they can't run out of the teepee and Roncalli can't run out of the woods during tournament game. It violates Rule #5. -
Playoff Roster Size Limit Logic
oldtimeqb replied to FCGriz's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I was aware that the state will allow schools to purchase additional medals out of pocket, after the fact. Which is kind of my point, that the state wants to plan on a max of 75 per team for postgame ceremony distribution purposes. It seems game 2 and 3 are always cutting it close to kick-off or a little after - unless Jack Kiser is playing in the 1A game and it's over quickly. LOL I'm far from defending the IHSAA on this one. I'm just saying I can see their argument, even if I don't necessarily agree. -
Playoff Roster Size Limit Logic

I have heard it has to do with the state finals. As in the IHSAA doesn't want to pay (or has only budgeted) for 75 blue/red medals for each class. This could just be speculation though. And you could make the argument for other sports as well. Many schools have more than 15 basketball players and 22 baseball players (I think those are the limits.) 75 "Varsity" football players, which is what the roster is comprised of, is a good number. -
I would say it's about 75% of the way there, but will shift a little bit more after Friday. Castle (5A) and North (5A) have yet to directly connect to the rest of the state but will by playing the Bloomington schools. I'm not sure if that will result in up or down movement, but once that happens the six degrees of Kevin Bacon should be complete.

Not sure about undersized, but they definitely gave Jasper plenty to handle all night. Biggest thing is 4/5 of their OL is starting for the second year together. 20+ games of chemistry on an OL is a tough matchup for anybody. https://www.tribstar.com/sports/local_high_school_sports/northview-fb-preview-knights-will-try-to-defend-wic-gold-division-title/article_60c74c78-872d-559f-9d88-dce3bb80f5ef.html

Sectional Semi’s Point Spreads
oldtimeqb replied to Bears62's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
I would pick GOTW as East Central/Mooresville. Given the last 2 meetings I think EC gets it done this time. A little bit of weather is forecast and as they always say - defense and run game travels. Regardless of who wins, I think it should be a great game. -
Oh wow. Well that takes it from something funny to something… extra. I guess they were just following Reb08’s lead? 😀

Now that’s just good coaching right there. They don’t do it right? Yell louder!

FWLIW, looking at IHSAA track sectionals Eli McDurmon won the 400M Evansville sectional with a time of 51.26. Gabe Eslinger came in 5th in the 100M at the Bloomington sectional. His time of 11.91 would have put him in a 3-way tie for 9th at Evansville. Drew Smith would have finished the same positions (3rd and 4th) in shot and discus at Evansville. His throws were farther than Wilson and Boots of MD. This means nothing when shoulder pads and helmets go on, I just like looking around at the multi-sport athletes out there.

Memorial or any other singular school doesn't have to play a non-conference opponent for Sagarin to correct itself. Northview-Jasper and Reitz-Boonville could be two games where the lower rated team wins. Week 2 when Castle-Bloomington South play and potentially MD-Linton, that will be two more games of connection with the SIAC and other conferences around the state. The ratings and SOS issues will probably we worked out by then. If I were ranking by likelihood, I would guess Sectional 24 - just based on the # of teams, Sectional 40, and Sectional 15 are the most likely sectionals won by the conference.

2021 State Championship Games
oldtimeqb replied to MarkCalaway's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Great reference. ‘Are you not entertained?’ Would also be an acceptable answer. -
Those middle two games intrigue me. I am fairly certain Corydon has never played Bosse, and have not been to Evansville since 2011 when they beat Memorial in the regional. I have heard Salem is improved this year and I always like intra-conference games with little/no history between the schools.

Quick question. Is this a legal play in HS? I have seen a high school team run this before at the end of the first half, albeit almost a decade ago. I don't know if it is allowable under current rules. Assuming you mean first half, this does change things a bit IMO. As long as the above play is legal.
-
I think JH uses Sagarin and homefield to run something like 1,000 simulations for each class. Or maybe I'm making that up. As discussed numerous times on here, there are flaws with that method for SIAC schools. Two weeks from now I wonder what it will look like after Boonville/Reitz, Vincennes/Princeton, Bosse/Corydon, and Jasper/Northview. All of those games feature teams that finished roughly the same spot in their respective conferences.

Yet at the same time Sectional 4 and 5 can only be the highest/lowest in their half of the state. Then the higher/lower switches the following year. Heritage Hills had some bad luck in 2000 and 2004 - as those are the years they should have hosted semi-state based on tie-breaker but had to go north. But I think statistically there is no advantage based on sectional #. Completely agree with this. Memorial played at Danville in 2017 under the same rule loopholes. Danville hosted 4 straight playoff games (Sec Semi, Sec Final, Reg, SS) while Memorial played 3 of 5 on the road. And don't even get me started on Indy and Eastern timezone teams getting to sleep in their own beds while the SW/NE Indiana schools generally have a hotel stay for Lucas Oil early start games.

@btownqbcoach kept a list. There was a thread somewhere that has gotten shuffled to a later page. Found it:

I follow your thinking although I doubt either staff would rest a player just to be careful. I think the bye week following this game prior to the 5A/6A playoffs changes the equation. IMO a 1A-4A school would be more likely to do that if week 9 was a non-conference game and first round was a tough opponent.

It’s almost like a run-pass-option can be a run play AND a pass play at the same time. Who knew??

Are we in a new 2-year Success Factor window?
oldtimeqb replied to XStar's topic in The Indiana High School Football Forum
Yes. According to the SF, winning one regional every two years is competitive enough to keep up Southridge in 3A. That stinks, IMO but they had to change the rule when it looked like Cathedral would fall back to 4A. I agree with @fenderbender ‘s assessment, however Memorial and Chatard would also need 2 points to stay up, i.e 2 sectionals or 1 regional in 2021 and 2022. -

So Chatard will drop back to 3A if Roncalli beats them in Sectional? (No 4A points) My guess is that they will "keep" the 4 from 2020-21 state title run, even though they were at a lower class. I could definitely be wrong though.
