  1. "You are what your record says you are." - Bill Parcells Two weeks in. Seven to go. Should be another great year for the conference.
  2. Anything that makes ESPN looks foolish is fine in my book. I don’t think they are even recognized by the OHSAA, which makes it even worse IMO. Not sure how similar it is, but whatever happened to Indianapolis Lighthouse East? They popped up for one year and played a schedule, never to be heard from again.
  3. A delay in play, but not talcum powder question. I heard one time a head coach was irked that the marching band 'refused to yield' the field during their halftime performance and thus the teams could not be back on the playing surface at the 0:00 mark. The coach asked the officials to flag his own school's band 15 yards, so he could address the issue with his AD and Band Director on Monday. Do you know if this has happened or is probably urban legend?
  4. Tecumseh/ Pike Central - COVID
  5. Clarification: two teams. 7th and 8th. MD and Reitz had 8th grade teams for years but the 7th graders still played EJFL. Makes for interesting scheduling as GS, Mt Vernon, and Boonville will also play some of the SIAC teams, but on different nights of the week.
  6. Yes. Most schools field a 7th and 8th grade cub team. The last holdouts were MD and Reitz (EJFL for life!!!) but the rest of the city does.
  7. I thought the black stuff was ground up tires. I stand corrected.
  8. Two years in a row a ‘big game’ has had to be moved to a neutral field. (Week 3 vs Central last year) EVSC’s reluctance to replace the turf, a boil order and scoreboard malfunction last week. It sure would be nice to a home field.
  9. Thank you. I don’t think it would have been a foul under NFL rules at least from my angle. The POE/experimentation issue is what I was confused about. I assumed it would have only been one of them.
  10. What is the point of emphasis on intentional grounding? I saw one called Friday - which was obvious and an infraction any way you sliced it. Just curious what was the PoE this year.
  11. Agree with everything you said. As Muda says, it's just a game, played by children. Good luck to all the young men around the state... point spreads be d@mned.
  12. Quick, someone tell John Harrell and Jeff Sagarin that their website can be construed as promoting gambling. Personally, I never touch the stuff, but simply stating how many points Team A is favored over Team B has been around for years.
  13. Coaches are creatures of habit. Some don't like to play on Saturdays and some wouldn't want to play with less than a week's preparation to install a game plan. No idea what schemes Boonville or West Vigo run, but especially with nothing but scrimmage film available, I could see that perspective. It makes what North Knox and Rensselaer did last year - agree midweek to a game on Saturday and meet halfway - truly remarkable.
  14. True. But don't forget the yardage conversion. 1 SIAC yd = 1.25 Big 8 yd due to schedule strength. 😃
  15. Boonville is now looking for a week 1 game due to Covid Issues with their opponent. Schedule shows that Paoli was originally scheduled.
  16. Someone better reinforce the hinges on the Bear Cage then.
  17. Not to step on Tanka's toes, but I could see in 4-5 years, drones replacing endzone cameras for the tight shot. As the cost comes down and quality video improves, the savings of time and manpower to set up a camera vs a drone might make it more attractive. I could be way off. But I know I have seen some college coaches use them for filming practice. Plenty of examples on YouTube if you look.
  18. Memorial, Mater Dei, Gibson Southern, Castle, Central are their top 5. Four of those 5 will be able to sort things out over the year. Unfortunately where GS fits in will have to be fodder for message boards and Twitter polls. Should be an exciting week 1.
  19. My thoughts exactly. Vegas would never lay odds on a Calvinist team. The results are predetermined. LOL
  20. All these Catholics winning football trophies. And here I thought a Protestant work ethic was the way to go. Weber lied.
  21. Agree. I think 4 regionals of 6 teams would be fine for 6A
  22. By limiting 6A to 24, the end result will be a more competitive 5A. Nothing would be changed much at 6A, because the same 8-10 schools will be in contention every year. The success factor was introduced roughly the same time, or maybe it was even at exactly the same time - my memory is fuzzy. But the SF point system to "stay up" has been modified once or twice since then. After a decade or so of 6A football, I see no problem modifying it as well to improve competition at the 5A level. What makes 32 the magic number?
  23. Could you envision coaches waiving a set or sets of plays? (Mutually agreed by coaches of course.) Given the other constraints - 15 consecutive and 48 total, I could see a small A/2A not really having enough bodies to play the 15-10-12-8-8 format. That might make the jamboree format a better option? I’m not really familiar with those, I have only attended option B scrimmages.
  24. I would guess a 9 team conference would be a no-go. No one wants to be the team looking for a week 9 non-conference opponent every few years. If VL leaves, would GS join? Would you rather play Columbus North, South Warren, and New Albany or have this schedule: Evansville Bosse at Evansville Reitz at Evansville Mater Dei Evansville Central Castle at Evansville Harrison at Evansville North at Evansville Memorial Jasper
