Yeah, but a lot of those fans are the ones keeping your alma mater from being a third world college. So having fans isn't necessarily a bad thing. 

Do you think Ball State alumni are fans of other football programs? If your answer is "no," then you're lying to yourself. I know for a fact that most of those students are at home on Saturdays cheering on their favorite teams. So really it's just "nonsense" to you, not the masses.

I have 1 friend that is a graduate of Ball State,  was at his house for Bears Packers game we talked about ESPN and YT TV bc he switched to Hulu, and said he has to pay for ESPN + so he can watch Ball State football and basketball 

All I can do is tell you my truth

When I was at Ball State, there were more students watching their favorite teams on TV than there were in the stands.

They clearly are really, really good the last couple of years. As to whether it’s sustainable, whether they can become another OSU, Michigan, Oregon, or Penn State, with perennial success like those programs, remains to be seen. It’s very hard to do.

That’s fair… but over time many programs do go up and down. I bet we both remember not THAT long ago when Oregon was not a PAC 10 power. A number of powers of yesteryear are not today. I remember after Bryant, Bama was up and down until Saban. Penn State is not the same program of the Paterno era. I agree it’s tough to be in the selection few that sustain.

If it were easy, everyone would do it.😂 I can’t decide if NIL/Transfer Portal makes it easier to stay on top because it makes it easier to “reload,” or harder to stay on top once you get there, because it’s now a lot more common for teams to go quickly from bad to good.

As far as coaching goes, Cignetti appears to be on an island of his own. Then a guy like Urban Meyer calls IU the most fundamentally sound team he's ever seen. I think IU is here for the long haul.

I say recruit very well and fill in the blanks with the portal . Still like when the majority of a team plays a couple of years together .

Coach Cignetti as I have stated since before he even won 1 game LAST Year has the message that resinates and now a resume at ALL levels that is impeccable 

After he leaves, YEARS from now, what will it look like ?  who knows, who cares, enjoy the ride now

We shall see about the Mendoza brother, but it is that critical?  Any outstanding QB is headed out after year 3 anyways, assuming that the checks are big enough to keep him there from his frosh year.  It will be interesting to see if Cig believe in Mendoza 2.  I am seeing IU mentioned in the Leavitt and North Texas QB running.  (always wonder how accurate)  But after watching Mendoza 1, I can see how really good experienced QB's may be looking at IU and Cig for the development needed to ensure serious interest by the NFL.

Cignetti is not going to roll with an underclassmen at QB, no reason too. Younger Mendoza is only a R-Fr and the oldest QB on the roster set to return, he'll have his chance at some point.
